Block Island Cruise 2017

This is a video of our cruise to Payne's Dock on Block Island, RI. We do this every year and this year, we included some docking footage because many people avoid Payne's because there aren't traditional floating docks. In other words, it's a little more difficult but, in our opinion, really worth it.
The video is long, so feel free to fast forward through the parts that don't interest you.
We were at Payne's for a week but we didn't include and of the usual tourist footage. Block Island has enough tourists now, in our opinion.

I spent many a summer on he island during the late war years. It was a really laid back place with not many tourists and crowds were nil. Labor day weekend was crowded with many boats and parties. but after the weekend was over the boats were mostly gone. A really nice place to spend he month but today seems just too crowded.

Sadly, I have to agree. The Block Island Chamber of Commerce's ongoing ad campaign seems to have been so successful that now they are wondering how to cope with the crowds. There are more private boats at the marinas and the moorings are now almost always full but there is a natural limit there. To us, it is the ferries arriving several times an hour and the large ones disgorging up to 2,000 people at a time. Many of those people rent mopeds so even the quiet back roads have lots of traffic, so much so that we stay clear of Old Harbor. We love Block but now visit far less often. like your video's , very relaxing, we always go to Payne's dock, this year we will have a new boat- went from a 24 ft. to a 29 ft.,, c ya out there this year.

Thanks, Brian. We will definitely be back at Payne's sometime mid-summer. It's our favorite trip. Hope you have as good a time as we will.

Yes. 1980 Silverton 34C with the original Chrysler 360s. I think we've replaced just about everything else!
