Sword Art's fine. A lot the hate comes from it's popularity. Sure, people have their own personal issues with the story and that's fair and there's nothing wrong with that, but they wouldn't be nearly as vocal and vehement about their hate if so many other people weren't so vocal about how much they loved it.

SAO is dope and I understand people that don't like it. It has a lot of flaws, but I love the video game theme of the show. The Rising Steel opening is from a mobile gacha game of SAO, so it is not Cannon, but the characters are in the real show. My favorite opening is the last one, Anima.

Absolutly! S1 and S2 are ok, the visuell aspect was good but the rest just mediocre. BUT alicization was fantastic and all in all absolutly great! + The mother rosario arc, short but very sweet at the end of season 2.

It's like different arcs the story keeps going, he just put the opening in order to help understand which season is each cause it gets really confusing if you are a first time watcher, some people say don't watch it because some seasons are boring af but the animation and sounds overall are top tier for me personally the first 3 seasons and the last one are the best. Good anime to watch tho definitely react to it

That last opening, I'll explain that transformation, but it's kind of a spoiler. That's Kirito. When he was all white, he lost his soul, closed himself off from all emotions as a result of immense shame, grief, anguish and pain pent up for years on end with no real therapy to help him out. "Black Swordsman Kirito" is not just a title, it's a solemn reminder of all the people he couldn't save when they needed him the most, but it's also the person who had still saved countless people. Kirito thinks too much in black that he doesn't notice how he's saved people too, so knowing what the Black Swordsman is in his head, the person who couldn't save some people, he refused to embrace the persona and the title. But in Alicization WoU, he finally accepts it. Not because it's a situation where he kinda has to for a bit, but because that's who Kirito is. Kirito is the Black Swordsman, and no matter how hard he wants to think that they are two different people, they are the same person. So in short... That transformation you saw was a metaphor for the empty husk Kirito was being torn away, as he accepts who he really is to embrace the persona, and save countless people once again.

I will say, SAO is one of my favorite animes. I absolutely love the soundtracks, the animations, and the story of it. Theres gonna be a lot of people who tell you the show is bad but I'd say it's something you just gotta watch and see for yourself. There are some weaker episodes in the show but all shows have those. I'd say SAO Alicization can be a tad confusing with the translation from japanese to english and the fact that it's adapted from a manga but there is a youtube channel that has in depth explanations about each episode and how it was adapted from manga to anime, what was cut, and what was changed. That being said, the first few seasons are fairly straightforward and I'd definitly recommend checking out SAO.

Sao is VRMMO genre not isekai since its not an actual “other world” but a virtual one. It could be called a pseudo-isekai and ive read some stories where the virtual world turns out too be a real parallel universe or stories where the game world becomes a real alternate universe but Sao is not one of them.

I didnt exactly appreciate how they gave aincrad the rushed treatment until I finally realized they based an entire anime off just a few pages of a short story. Which was commendable to say the least. Ive heard they're potentially re-creating the old Aincrad arc through the progressive series. Whcih, if thats the case I may feel more up beat on the first season again.

The biggest misconception people have when watching the openings but not the show is that Alicization and War of Underworld takes place in a game world. Alicization bumped the shows' rating up to TV-MA because people don't fizzle out when they die. A body gets decapitated, or bisected, you see all the gore in it's glory. There's a bit more to why it's more mature but it's spoilers. Lol

SAO was an Isekai but not anymore, GGO Alternative is a spinoff that follows different characters so not necessary but still pretty good, the Rising Steel opening is the opening for a video game so not an actual anime op, and the alicization arc is animated amazingly there is also a movie that takes place before it. I loved SAO but i dont believe its amazing story wise its just a fun show with enjoyable characters and fights. It's definitely over hated but nothing you can do at this point if a popular show has flaws people will find them and never let you forget.

And after all of these things in season 3 we can see how he shows his talent. SAO isn’t as divisive as it seems to be. Typical arguments say no character development and what not, which is not true an any way shape or for which tells you that there is another reason people give it hate. Of course people are always gonna hate popular stuff but it’s not the same with other such anime like attack on Titan. My best theory is that the popular reach of the show outside of the anime community mixed with the fact that the story is a lot more western than most anime, people get mad that it ends up being a lot of peoples intriduction to anime since it’s different from a lot of the stuff they watch

the reason sao gets flack is if broken down and read rest first before dislike or argue its like how twilight was to romance Its a show that unapolageticly hits all the tropes Like twilight hit every romance trope it put off none romance fans Sao is unapologeticly a issakai op protaganist , girls love him , kind of an awkward charactef its unapolageticly a issekai anime So for anime fans who been around ages and want those inovative new shows sao becomes a let down but if u enjoy shows even if they stick to their genres tropes like just unapolageticly like a genre even if isnt super invating then yhe shows great its a good issakei but it falls into what some purist anime fans call issakai trash
