Even psychiatrists and psychologists say so!

@Haghenveien4 жыл бұрын
I'm not a BDSMer so I can't really know but my impression because of what she sayis is that, specially, after these movies there might be some intrusism of men that aren't real doms but just plain abusers, even if that abuse is restrected to the sessions. And I'm not saying that just because someone prefers an inexperienced partner, they are abusers. Maybe they really enjoy the teaching and discovering a new world to someone part and that's not bad. But I think that it would be easier for abusers to get away with certain things if their partners don't know any better.

That's just not an okay preference. Like preferring blondes to brunettes is very different than being like whoever I have sex with shouldn't know how to do anything in the bedroom. It's just such a fleeting thing to teach people, you'll never be fulfilled with 1 partner, the age gap will most likely keep growing, and it's more likely you'll get caught up because as someone with a bunch of experience you don't get any slack for traumatizing that 20 year old because you wanted to be a weirdo.

The problem I think isn't the "bdsm" part, it's the fact that he ignores her free agency outside the bedroom. He violates her in several emotionally abusive ways (invading her home, stealing her car and selling it, tracking her movement when she's not consenting for him to do so), and that's the part that reflects badly on the BDSM community. Because she did NOT give her consent for him to run her life like that, and I know you didn't read the book, but she is very clearly upset about these things when he does them. But because she's "so in love" that she just lets him walk all over her. Which is not what BDSM should be. It's abuse.

This movie bothers me because it pretends to be BDSM when really its just a billionare with boundary issues who doesnt know the meaning of the word NO and I dont like that some girl out there probably thinks what is happening in this movie/book is hot and something they want because its extremely unhealthy and toxic and is NOT romantic or a healthy BDSM relationship, period.
@sonnidesoto4 жыл бұрын
When I was watching it, it kinda seemed like Christian Grey wasn't nearly as experienced as he thought he was. Like, he had all the toys and knew some of the basics but, yeah, like you said, he clearly has never been part of a community and still holds A LOT of shame about his kinks. Throughout the whole film, I just kept thinking that the guy desperately needed a financial planner (because dude kept throwing money around like it was nothing; classic sign of new money who is going to lose it fast), a sex-positive therapist (because, boy, does he have childhood issues he needs to fix and lessons to learn about boundaries), and a community (both kinky and not, because man has not been properly socialized for either kinky or vanilla spaces and desperately needs friends to slap when he starts acting creepy as hell). Boy has issues. Part of me thinks that the main reason he's so attracted to kink and Domination, in particular, is because he has such a need to control his surroundings and kink gives him an outlet to do that. Like, we know that he was physically abused as a child (they show the cigarette burns on his skin) and is now very particular about being touched (Ana is constantly upset that she never gets to touch him the way she wants to). I think he uses kink and Domination as a way of saying, "I'm the one who touches you, not the other way around. I get to say who does the touching, when it happens, and how it happens." (Again, he needs a therapist more than he needs a submissive, so he can process that and use kink as a healthy outlet for that feeling). I also think that Ana isn't nearly as innocent as people think she is. I think she successfully manipulates Christian all the time in the movie. From her cheeky "Nice knowing you" message, which she KNOWS is going to provoke a dramatic reaction from him because he is such a drama queen, to her not answering his calls during a fight, which causes him to fly across state lines after her, to her asking him to do his worst just so she can treat him like a monster afterward. Each time, she does something to get the exact reaction from him that she wants. She pulls away, not because she wants him to leave her alone, but because she wants him to chase her. Which is why she is never surprised when he does. Why she's happy when he does. And she asks him, in anger, to hurt her, because she knows he worries that his kinks make him monstrous and she wants to hurt him with that. Think about how she frames that scene. She needs to know "how bad it can get." She doesn't understand why he wants to hurt her. She doesn't understand why he can't be normal. She's taking his kinks, that he's done a fairly good job of presenting as pleasurable and consensual throughout the whole film, and reducing them to the worst stereotypes and hurling them at him to hurt him, not because he physically hurt her, but because he wouldn't be the vanilla boyfriend she wanted him to be. When I watched it, it just seemed like a cautionary tale about two miserable people who really needed therapy, not a relationship.

Your interpretation of the film shows just how much the screenwriter and director made the story tolerable. In the book, Anastasia is a complete moron who's perpetually flustered and confused by everything Christian does and everything going on in the world around her. The book is 90% Ana's inner monologue asking dumb questions like "I DON'T UNDERSTAND WHAT ANY OF THIS MEANS?? WHAT'S VANILLA SEX?? I THOUGHT WE HAD CHOCOLATE FUDGE BROWNIE SEX WITH WHIPPED CREAM AND NUTS ON TOP??"

I’m not mad that this is a twilight fan fic, but that the author really thought the Edward was dominant. After he and Bella bad sex for the first time and he literally cried worrying about her. She had to talk him into it and when they had sex for the second and third time he is still upset with himself. Y’all really want to tell me he’s into BDSM? On an other note, this was a great review.

I think it goes beyond just Christian and Ana not being compatible although that’s certainly a big part of why they don’t work. Christian was controlling and made decisions for Ana beyond her consent, like selling her car without asking. He was able to find her and tried to isolate her from her mother. Is this connected to Christian’s own personal backstory, sure, but it doesn’t give him permission to try to limit her socially or just control her outside of what they agreed. As far as why Christian would be interested in domination, I think he’s not. I think he’s interested in being a controlling partner and that that need for control extends to the bedroom. He’s not into BDSM, he’s into abuse. Which is why it gives off the impression that those things are connected in the film. BDSM is his cover for not being an attentive partner and he was really a good dom he wouldn’t lack the aftercare, he wouldn’t pursue and control an inexperienced person, he wouldn’t “do the worst” to someone on the fence. He’s just an all around bad partner.
@Emily-ce7hd4 жыл бұрын
If I recall, in the books (and maybe later the movies) he explains that he's into abuse because he wants to punish women who look like his biological mother. It isn't a power or domination fantasy, it's a revenge fantasy.
@ElfInTheFlowers4 жыл бұрын
Yuuuuuuup! BDSM made a poor cover for very vanilla sex and emotional abuse. And it goes on in the other films /books. I get the feeling that E.L. James’ was going for non-consent erotica with her fan fic but steered it towards romance for sales reasons and it just ends up a weird abusive mess with the main attraction being absolute .01% wealth.

in my opinion, he was pretty abusive towards ana, NOT because of the BDSM thing itself but because he STALKED her and chased her even after she told him that she didn't really want that, and that's pretty much the only reason why she agreed to that in the first place so of course, she wouldn't like that because she didn't really want that. she was mesmerized by him and because of that and the pressure he put onto her she agreed to do things she clearly wasn't ready to do

It's so toxic, this trope of the man that 'does not give up'. Every time you see a woman says 'no' in a movie the man goes even harder after her and eventually 'steals her heart'.
