7:15 - a years grace period could alleviate the potential spending cap issue. First season you qualify for Europe, you stay at 85% cap. Qualify again, you have your cap reduced to lower limit. I believe this should work in reverse too.
@malcs2867 ай бұрын
great point, i was about to leave a comment saying something about how this wouldn’t work because it would end up punishing clubs like West Ham & Villa but some kind of grace period would at least soften the blow for those kinds of teams.

UEFA FFP is such a hassle for non-rich clubs. As a Roma fan, we had to deal with restrictions very quickly and it enabled our team to be dismantled piece by piece between 2016 and 2018. We had to sell Salah to Liverpool for a cheap €30 million because of the 30 June deadline. There are also other problems like the local municipality destroying our stadium project in the 2010s, Serie A's match revenue and debt problems, but FFP is forcing a lot of clubs into a vicious cycle of mediocrity.

I was just giving personal insights concerning a club that had ambitions to bring back the early 2000s after new owners came in but was hampered by UEFA's spending rules. I remember when Bradford City made the League Cup final in 2013 they were going to decline to compete in the Europa League should they have won the final for financial reasons. I wonder if an ambitious club sneaks into European spots a little earlier than they'd like if they'd attempt to decline to compete in Europe in order to spend more on wages.

The 70%-85% difference isn't really an issue. As you'd probably gain 15% revenue from being in europe anyway. So should balance itself out. Also means if a team doesn't get into europe (that normally does) they won't have to sell players.
@dh-cs7 ай бұрын
The Premier League's heart is never in the right place. The 70 to 85 percent difference marginally reduces the scale of the problem but doesn't actually address overall unfairness in spending. The cap should be a certain percentage above the average for the whole league/season. Starting high (e.g. 250%) to accommodate current high spenders and lowering significantly each year (e.g. 25%) till no team is spending say 66% above average. Same rules across Europe and 50+1 will be needed to have any semblance of fairness.
@explodethebomb7 ай бұрын
That's a dumb way of doing it. So when a team like Luton gets promoted, the cap suddenly drops a bunch?
@dh-cs7 ай бұрын
You're Overestimating Luton's impact, it's less than 2 percent, And Underestimating how unusual they are, most teams who haven't been in the Prem recently, spend the extra 100m+ TV revenue they get, Luton have spent 20m. To reduce the impact, work with last 2 seasons' average.@@explodethebomb

If youre from england and are sticking to those rules youll be sticking to the uefa rules bc the amount you can spend in england is 15% lower. I thought the big deal was that they were measured differently before and now were gonna be using the same ruler but english teams wont be able to use as much.
