Hold onto your LS430 - there’ll never be another one like it. Over 250k miles and still going strong - amazing. As I said in another comment, I wish Lexus would have just updated this model with newer tech and more efficient drivetrain components when they were creating the LS500 we have today. Wonderful ride and handling. I’ve also owned a VW Phaeton and Audi A8. Both fun to drive and sickening to deal with when they break. @takenpictures2 жыл бұрын
@@texlad04 how are you liking the 460, compared to the 430?
@texlad042 жыл бұрын
@@takenpictures mixed bag. The Sport Edition (not F sport - the first of the sporty attempts) is good as a package but not great. The sport tuned air suspension has somewhat aggressive damping from the perspective of poorly maintained urban roads and vibrations do travel through the chassis. On the highway however it's great. But the problem really is the chassis doesn't support the tuning of the suspension. The better buy in the 2007 to 2012 model is the standard car. Even then, it's more complex and has way more known problems. The self-making gasket material fails and must be replaced. The suspension is more complex and the front bushings fail. The brake system and fuel system are prone to needing work as the car ages. I had all of that done. Even the standard car (without air or sport air) doesn't ride as luxuriously as the 430. I live with horrible urban roads and this reminds me that we're often putting lipstick on a pig when fitting sport anything to a car like this. Whereas the 460 has EPS, and it's extremely vague and dead on center, the 430 is old school and requires fewer turns and has a tighter turning circle. While the powertrain in the 460 is clearly superior and gives you a much better driving experience, there's plenty of torque in the 4.3 L engine which honestly is what really matters with a car the size and weight. Speaking of weight, the 460 also weighs more by a good measure so it's still doesn't exactly feel nimble even if it feels quicker. The eight speed transmission also tends to hunt quite a bit more under certain conditions although on the highway it is excellent especially for downshift speed. Keep in mind that I have a special sport version of the eight speed which came from the IS F of the same generation, but the regular transmission is more than adequate. I am a big guy and I like big luxury cars so I think going forward I am going to be looking at all the completion. I would consider getting the second generation of the 460 if I got the right options and price but I probably would not go to the 500 in part because it's much more cramped inside. Just don't expect the same level of reliability from the 460 models as you would have with the 430.

I have made the ES my choice over the years. I look for one with about 160,000 km. (100,000 mi.) then check the glove box for the owners manual. If every service has been stamped by a Lexus dealer, I am confident the unit is as good as new. Old people remember the day when a car was pretty much used up at 100k, so they trade it in. I buy a very reliable used car for the price of a new econobox, drive it for at least twice as far as that econobox would have survived, and sell it very cheap to someone who will use it for a few more years.

With four good brand snow + ice tires in the Colorado winters it transforms into a great snow car. I used to easily drive up I-70 to the ski resorts in my old 1992 Lexus LS400 with no problems. Sad the day I sold it with 250K miles.

Great video. When you mentioned the seat adjustment for the rear passenger I thought of something amazing. I think that those two buttons are actually intended for the driver to use so he/she does not need to reach over the front passenger seat to move the seat up for rear passengers. More of a feature for the driver but also accesible by rear passengers. Great vid! I love my 13 year old Lexus.

Had one of these with the radar cruise. It was a cool long distance car that'll gobble up the miles but compared to the 2nd gen LS, it was a boat. 2nd gens will always be my favorites.

I agree that this is definitely more reliable than the w220 Mercedes S-Class, but they’re not as bad you’d think. It’s a bad car, with good engines. These cars end up having electrical problems and air suspension problems etc, but the engines can last very long, with much less issues than the car itself. I have seen lots of members on forums that take their W220 S-Classes to 200k-275k miles. The engines and drive trains will be pretty reliable, but it takes lots of passion to want to keep everything working on these cars for 200k miles…

Awesome review indeed! I own a 2006 ls430 and its not as bad in the snow as you might think due to the weight of the vehicle. I live in Minnesota and it gets cold ! I have a second set of wheels/ tires -Michelin cross climate 2 and they are awesome in snow/ice.

I own several cars including a 98 Lexus LS400 and a 03 Lexus LS430 Ultra. The LS430 only has 50k on the clock. Both the 400 and 430 are fantastic cars. When the LS430 came out Lexus went way upmarket with this model. My car has the active cruise control, air suspension, Aniline leather with the Alcantara headliner, etc. If you can find a 430 "BUY IT". These cars are so over engineered and beautifully crafted that with routine maintenance they will run forever and not nickel and dime you to death. Here is a bit of trivial you may not know. The engines in both cars are from the UZ-FE family of engines. These engines are so good that they were certified by the FAA for light aircraft use. I also live in Colorado and even though I don't drive my LS430 in the winter I do drive the LS400. I did put a set of Bridgestone Blizzak snow tires on the LS400 and I have no issues with traction in the snow. By the way. You said this was kind of a Grandma car. Not a bad thing but a lot of young people have discovered how great the LS models are and that's who I see driving them. Cheers!!!!

So are the window actuators. In general, the car is less reliable than the late LS400s.

What a fantastic car. I had been looking for a low-mileage post-facelift LS430 to come on the market in my preferred color combination and in a Base/Premium model configuration. Finally found it -- same colors as the one here, 2005 w/65k miles. Mine just has a regular key, not the smart key. (NB: you really have to act fast if you find a good one ... they sell like hotcakes!). Most of them that you find for sale have the nav screen but IMHO it makes the car very dated and the Apple or Google Maps nav works way better anyways. I had to put some money and elbow grease into it to bring everything back up to snuff (even though low miles, it really hadn't been babied), but it's a reallllllllllllly nice car now. There is only one thing that I didn't like about the car, which is the wood steering wheel -- it's not nice to hang onto -- so I found a black all-leather one from a JDM Celsior and swapped that in (surprisingly easy). Also inserted a Grom bluetooth gizmo and now the car has perfect hands-free calling and audio streaming. It's an extremely easy car to live with and absolutely crazy comfortable. Has speed to burn and it's so quiet inside it's almost eerie. The turning radius is so tight that I actually laughed the first few U-turns. I would say it cost me about 20k to get the car and get everything sorted out just how I like ... but it really was worth it; I don't know how you could find a better car for that amount of money. I have heard them described as "floaty", but not in the same vague way that a full size American sedan would be. It's creamy smooth and precise, but not vague and wandering at all. Long ago I owned a W140 S Class Mercedes, and obviously these are quite similar. I don't remember all the specifics of the Merc but I would say the LS430 is, overall, a much better package. Gets bad mileage around town but highway mileage is truly amazing. I'm not really sure why you can't buy a good naturally aspirated V8 RWD sedan nowadays. Apparently it's a minority view, but I think it's the best kind of car for gobbling up long highway miles.

I never owned a LS but I did own a 98 ES300. Even though I considered it as a fully loaded Camry, the Lexus comfort definitely had its presence. The car was so smooth on the road that I didn't even feel one of the tires having a ball on it 😆. If I ever get a chance to get another Lexus I would and honestly it will probably upgrade to an LS 😁
