Same!!! I have iron deficiency anemia and I used long, thick, black curls and now my hair is dry, brittle, and the front wouldn’t curl so I cut my hair thinking it was heat damage. Turns out it was my anemia causing all of this and I’m not seeing a difference taking my iron vitamins but hopefully my hair gets better. At least my hair is still thick!

ATTENTION TO NEW VIEWERS PLEASE READ THIS: Lack of iron isn't the only deficiency that can cause an issue like this to happen, in fact VITMAMIN D is another culprit for this issue ( dizzyness, fatigue, hair loss, even texture changes) . This video inspired me to get my blood checked because the SAME EXACT THING was happening to me and I assumed my iron had to be low as well however, It turned out my iron was fine and my vitamin D level was the only thing severely low at 13ng/ml. Deep conditioning masks, other haircare products never made it go back to normal. I even did a test and let my hair grow out a bit without any styling or manipulation and it grew out horribly wonky, limp, dry, curls getting looser, ETC. Just wanted to share this to ANYBODY that's struggling with this issue.

I went through the SAME struggle! Avoid taking iron tablets as they cause constipation. I’ve been taking Vitamin B12 in liquid form along with the blood builder tablet (on amazon) daily! Helped increase my iron levels so quickly. Never felt better! My hair stopped falling out and my nails stopped breaking! Thank me later lol 🙌🏽

I barely use heat. Haven't flat ironed my hair in like 2 years and yet it seems like my patterned changed as if I have heat damage. It's straighter now. After my kids it changed if that has anything to do with it. It's so weird. Thickness is not there any more... 💔

I’m so emotional right now I don’t even know what to say but it’s such a relief to know why I’m losing my curls! my hair was 3c when I was little but I hated it and got it straightened and stuff, and I went natural in 2016 and after so much pain and so much fight I started genuinely loving my curls in 2019/2020, and now they’re disappearing and I just felt SO defeated, so humiliated. I cannot thank you enough for sharing this! I am anemic and have noticed a change in my curl pattern over the years (as my iron levels decreased). My doctor told me all about my anemia, but failed to mention that it had a effect on my hair. I recently did a big chop to my hair thinking it was just because of heat damage, but after watching this video and researching myself on the topic, I now realize it was probably due to my anemia. Your hair looks amazing and I can see the difference in your hair since you started an iron healthy diet. I'm glad that you were able to find out what's going on. I went through this last year. I had all of the symptoms that you mentioned and I too thought I was overweight and needed to get back in the gym. My iron was so low that my doctor decided to have me get three rounds of iron transfusions. Since then, I've been on supplements and have been proactively includung more iron rich foods. Over the past 6 months my numbers have been reading in the normal range (I have to get blood work monthly until my doctor is confident that my iron level is positively stable). It was very scary hearing the effects of low iron when I first got the call too, but thankfully my doctor has been very very thorough around a plan to resolve it. I'm glad you have a doctor who is on top of it.

I have severe iron deficiency anemia (normal is between 11.1 and 15.9) My level was at 6.9 about 2 months ago. I recently got blood work done and my levels are up to 9.7, which is great but I still have a ways to go. I take 325 mg Irn pills twice daily, but since they can make me really sick (nausea, stomach pains, and diarrhea) my doctor said that I could also take a prenatal. Vitamin B-12 is also good for raising iron levels too so now I take a prenatal and multivitamins with B-12 and only take iron once a week.

Also, thank you for sharing this because it will help so many others who may be dealing with the same issue and don’t n is what’s really going on. The one thing I do know concerning iron is that for women that are not yet in menopause and still menstruate, we have to make sure we’re getting enough iron. Especially since we menstruate every month and lose a lot of that iron so we have to be getting in back in our bodies. I’m so glad you got to the bottom of this, and now you can get your curls back 😊

Im so glad there a videos like these. I have cried over my hair. The one thing I can say about me is, Ive always had the most beautiful hair, since I was about 2 years old. Im almost 39 now. When I was 16 I desperately wanted straight hair as I couldnt manage my thick curls. I use to relax my hair & I mean I kept that product in much longer than it said on the box before washing it out & still my hair was strong & healthy. I wasnt know for dying my hair much, only now & again Id have highlights put in. I stopped using relaxers when I hit about 20 & never used them again as I didnt need to as my hair was straightening with the irons, but anytime I got bored with the straight hair, Id go wash it & it would go back to my normal curls. I got to 29/30 & decided I wanted to rock my natural curls, no more straightening & for a while all I did was put leave in conditioner in my hair & I was good to go, maybe some moose to get my curls a little more crunchy. In 2015 I noticed my hair was thinning. I had to try cover up the bald patches & this upset me. I noticed my curls werent the same, but still curly enough. Then in 2016 I wanted a bit of a change & decided to colour & straighten my hair, but the colour didnt take to my hair. I gave up on the idea of colour but kept it straight for a few days. I got bored with it so went & washed it. As Im washing it I notice its still really straight. This isnt normal for my hair. I let it dry & still it was straight. For a few days I tried to get my curls back but they were gone. I thought I could trick my hair by getting a curling want to make curls & then the curls would remain, but within a couple of hours even those curls dropped & Id be left with frizz. I went to different salons asking for advice & they all couldnt understand because they checked my hair & said my hair was strong & healthy, no damage. One said it could be hormones or lack of vitamins. My doctor was useless. Its 2020 now & I have days were my curls are trying to come back & days were they wont. I was so frustrated & couldnt style my hair as nothing would stay so I would keep it up in this horrible bun each day, making me feel unattractive. Then I went to a hair salon to get help & they just made things worse. I got so frustrated that I ended up just straightening it because anything was better than this ugly bun. Ive been hearing many people with our hair type say its lack of iron & I believe I lack iron in my body so ive started taking vitamins including iron to see what happens. Ive also heard products with silicone in it can cause these issues with our hair, so Im looking around for shampoos that dont have it. Wish me luck in getting my curls back. I really miss them 🤦🏽♀️

Hey! Iron Def has been my issue for a very long time and it wasn't until 2006 that a new Dr finally figured out why I could sleep for 18 hrs straight, wake up and want to sleep more! It was that bad! My mom and sister are iron def also. They both had iron IV; however, it made their hair fall out. As a result, I refused to have the IV (I can't bare to have my hair fall out!). I went natural in 2007 and have noticed many changes. Thinning & curls looser (my coils were very tight). It has taken about a couple of years (yikes!) for my hair to "come back" and now I must say that my texture has changed again - my roots are wavier - I don't know if this is a ok thing or not but I do try to make sure I am as consistent as possible with my iron intake. I have been on my natural hair “curl pattern” no heat journey all of 2020. I could not figure out why my curl pattern was nice in March but here we are in October and my hair looks heat damaged! I received 2 iron treatments last month and get another round in November.. hopefully by January I’ll start to see improvements with my health and my hair. Thank you for this video!!

Surprise ending! I was thinking certain medications can cause this, but never thought about iron. Thank you for this! I have issues with iron and hemoglobin, as well as being frustrated by all this added length to my hair, but loss of curl and thickness.

Hey Ashley! I seen your recent videos and I am really happy for you that your curls and texture are back healthy. It makes me happy to know that you don’t straighten your hair or dye it and you truly embrace your curls. It’s a blessing to have thick curly hair. I can say I am extremely disappointed and frustrated because I’ve died my hair a lot and I am not sure if that could be the only cause but I use to have very thick hair, beautiful ringlet curls. My hair is thinner now then before, curls are almost gone… I straighten it once a year and despite that it just feels very light weight and I am concerned. I don’t have low iron so I’m not sure what could be happening…

I am so happy that I watched this video, I have a 3a/3b curly hair type and have seriously tamed the amount on heat I use on my hair. I have straightened my hair maybe 15 times in the past year and those being special event's. I am thinking about seeing a doctor because thyroid problems run in my family and I am wondering if I have a possible iron deficiency. Thank you so much for helping me find a way to figure out what is wrong with my hair

Hi I Love your videos! ❤️ I’m so glad that I continued to watch your channel. Because I have low iron deficiency as well, now I haven’t had any changes in my hair texture, however, I did notice shortness of breath, and wasn’t aware that it could be due to low iron. I contributed it to other things like my heart etc. Thank You, so much I now have my answer because I had blood work done etc. and Dr.’s have told me I’m ok! But yet I was still having shortness of breath. Grateful to you, sorry for your experience, I pray God ‘s healing over you. Amen 🙏🏽

Ashly I totally understand you, I suffer from the same iron deficiency for 10 years because of the thyroid, my body does not retain iron and I must consume it in large quantities. The last medication I am taking is indicated to pregnant women. We must be more aware of our body alert us when something is wrong, we suffer from this deficiency we have: yellowish skin, weak nails, alopecia, fatigue, constant sleep, muscle weakness among others. We are together in this and we will come out of it. Besos desde RD 😘❤️

So grateful for this video. I'm experiencing the same things. My texture has completely changed for no reason. I'm not using heat so I couldn't figure what was up. I've struggled with low iron for years with no change in my hair so I wouldn't have connected the two. Ive recently stop eating meat and with the combination of that and the low iron, this could be the cause of my issues with my hair. Thanks

Hey Ashly. I have low iron levels (ferritin), low blood pressure, and anemia! I went natural around 2015 and saw thinning near my left temple. I don't always take my supplements (B vitamins, iron, vitamin D), but I've noticed some new growth in that area. All around my head though, my hair is like 3 different textures. The perimeter is loose curls, tight ringlets in the kitchen, and what I call my "perfect" curls right in the center. (Kind of like a bullseye going from loose to tight inward.) I don't get a lot of volume anymore in the front/top of my head; it's all in the crown. Hope it works out for you.

Wow I am so happy i saw this because for about 4 years ago my hair started to get thin and I didn't understand why because I was doing so many treatments and eating protein etc. Then last year I found out I was slightly anemic after I did a blood test, I was tired just like you but it was really bad and i was scared, so was happy to hear from my doctor what the problem was but I never linked it to my hair till now. Aside from that my hair texture is similar to yours but a few times I tried things that didn't agree with my hair texture then my friend told me to use a clarifying shampoo so I got one from Mizani and it worked honestly and that's my go too product whenever that happens. Please try it. Also it's been a year since I started taking iron tablets, eating oats, beetroot and drinking orange juice every morning. I now feel way more energised, my new routine sigh. I just feel sad I did not do this earlier in my life. Wishing you the best you will see a change soon! Xx

I recently just found out I had a mild iron deficiency. I take an iron tablet almost everyday. I didn't know that could be the cause of it. I recently had got a haircut and gotten it cut the shortest its been since I was born. My curl pattern consisted of mostly 3b curls and some 3a curls. I had lots of coils and clumps in my hair but I didn't have layers and I wanted volume, so I got it cut around late December/ beginning February. I was so excited because i thought my hair would become curlier and fuller, as it was supposed to. But as soon as my stylist cut off my curls, washed it, and was styling it, even when it was wet it no longer had the same pattern and looked wavy and straight. When she diffused it my hair was straight at the roots and had really big waves, nothing like my curl type. I showed her a before picture I took and she said give it a couple of days and your curls will come back. I said ok and we left. Recently, probably mid march i started seeing my curls form a little. after i started seeing a little bit of a curl patter, two weeks later there was a stronger pattern, but still not even close to my hair. My hair has mostly 3a and a good amount of my hair is straight/wavy like 2b or 2c. It really upset me because I miss my coils and all my bouncy springy curls and I was starting to think that since the type of cut I got was a Deva cut, and everything going on with there products might've damaged my hair. Then, recently, I got blood work done because I was experiencing pains that felt like were from my heart. It turned out I have anxiety and in my blood work i have a mild iron deficiency and i'm a little anemic. When my mom told me that I did realize that I did feel dizzy a lottt and i was sleeping a lottt, I just never would've thought this would be the reason of my hair changing. 🥺🥺

Hi, Ashly. I have gone through it all with my hair. Initially, I had curls like yours, but my textured completely changed to tighter curls. Years ago, my hair was just shedding and thinning at an alarming rate. I went to the doctor and found out that I had thyroid issues - Hashimoto's Disease. My thyroid had gotten so large that I was having trouble even swallowing water. I had to have it removed. I also had anemia. It was severe. I've been anemic before the thyroid issues and I was taking Iron pills, changed my diet, everything. Nothing seemed to work with getting my levels normal. I'm trying to keep this short for you. It takes months of taking the thyroid meds for your levels to get in normal range. I had my thyroid removed 3 years ago and am still not quite right. Since January of this year, my hair went to its worse. My hairline is completely gone and sort of receding. It has been shedding and thinning at an alarming rate. I do not do braids or any styles that will cause tension. Unless you are experiencing hair loss, no one can ever total understand what it is like and what an impact it has on your life and self esteem. Anyway, I spoke with my doctor about this and he took me off the generic brand thyroid meds. He said some people have these extreme issues with the generics. That was around March. As I said, it takes many months to notice a difference, but the shedding is getting better. Although my hair has not grown back yet. And as for my iron, it was so bad that I had to take iron iv infusions where I went to the hospital 2x a week to get iron by iv. Each session was about 45 minutes. That was for 2 months. Then it was minimized to 1x per week. Then every other week. Until now I don't do them anymore. I am just take vitamins now.
@mmitchell24286 жыл бұрын
Also, I am in my 40s. You mentioned age. As you age, so does the hair. So, I have all these strikes against me as to whether I can get a healthy head of hair again. You're young. Take your vitamins. If you don't see a difference over time, explore the iv options and get it corrected before you get to the point where your hair thins too much. Keep us posted.
