I saw your video, took mine apart and immediately noticed that the coiled wire was never soldered to the board on both sides. After reading other comments saying it's just an antenna, I put it back together and now it is working fine. I think just removing the batteries for a few minutes is what fixed the problem.

For a $70 thermometer this shouldn’t be but I guess they have them manufactured in China...🥴ours still isn’t fixed yet but will have to go outside tomorrow when it’s warmer to take batteries out of sensor then take apart if necessary...that is for sharing ...

That is the antenna coil for the wireless transmitter...don't mess with that part. It is a specific length for the frequency it operates at. Its is cut to the wave length it needs to be. IT IS an ANTENNA. Do this...Check that battery voltage makes it to the circuit board first, continuity. Second, make sure the circuit board is clean and free from corrosion. Third let in dry and then put fresh lithium AA batteries in it. Then put batteries in the main unit. It should come alive, if not, the outdoor sensor may have another component failure.

I thought the same thing when I saw that... but then why did soldering the antenna down fix the issue lol. I have no clue.

My older LA crosse sensor doesn't even have a "coil" looking antenna. I have no idea how it works to transmit. My unit wasn't cheap, when it was new, but the sensor didn't have screws, so I was reluctant to break it open. But I got it apart, looks dirty, of course. First thing, I'll check to see if battery power gets into the unit. I don't see any obvious cracked solder, or burned components..... I really know nothing about electronics. Several surface mount resistors (I think), but they might be diodes. Couple of can-shaped components with two leads (1uF 50 V, and 10uF 16V). Any suggestions of how to check any parts....?

We had same issue! Thank you very much. Ours is fixed because of your video.

That was the transmit antenna you just soldered, they're disconnected on one end like that in every unit (even when brand new), they're supposed to be. I'm surprised it works AT ALL after you soldered the lose end down. It's very curious tho that whatever you did has fixed it. I wonder if maybe the problem was that there was water on the circuit board (perhaps on the temperature probe itself), and taking the back cover off, combined with the heat of soldering, has evaporated the water away.

LOL. That's what he did... and it worked. Ditto on the water on the board, mine dropped out after a rainstorm here last week.

Observations in my 00606TX confirm that this spring/coil is indeed serving as an antenna. One is soldered onto the board at the top right. The other end is purposely left disconnected. It is actually held to the other half of the plastic housing with a red glue. (In my unit, the red glue was starting to crack, the antenna was getting loose. I secured it back with masking tape.) In the video because we see the whole antenna in one half of the unit, I'm led to believe it became unglued. In the vicinity of where he soldered, there appear some pads to unmounted components like R211, so maybe that 2nd soldered side of the antenna is connected to nothing.

The solder joint at this spring was loose on mine.... I soldered it back in tight and the unit's working again. Thanks!

I needed to replace the wires going to the battery terminals. The original wires were very brittle and flimsy. I removed the board and terminals from the plastic housing to do this.

My batteries died in the transmitter, replaced them, started blinking, but thermometer wouldn't receive outside temp. The thermometer receiver was set on A kept changing the setting from ABC , finally left it on B and it started receiving again. Broke the clip on the thermometer back, had to tape it, at least it works.

Do I have to put the sensor unit outside under a tree? I have mine on my small porch hanging on the brick wall. Must it be away from any thick wall to get accurate outside readings?

It should still pick up.
