I used to go up there for their superb Autumn Galas some 25 years ago Austin, so to see it again through the Master's lens is a real treat. Sad to see Foxcote Manor struggling so much she must be duw for some work....Bob
@acw710008 жыл бұрын
Thanks Bob, I don't usually like the Autumn gala as the foliage has grown up so much but having missed out on the Spring gala decided to go. Very fortunate with some decent weather and, of course, the hard working locos we associate with the NYMR

Superb as ever Austin , cracking Gala with wonderful sounds from all locos . Glad you got the two Standards together as planned .
@acw710008 жыл бұрын
Cheers Steve, I was hoping the timetable wouldn't slip so that the Standards wouldn't be too late and fortunately everything ran to time on the day

Excellent coverage Austin. 7822 was clearly the star of the event. You can't beat the spectacle of a Manor doing a bit of hill climbing.

Thank you, I do love the sound of a Manor hard at work

Wonderful sights and sounds, could almost smell the hot oil and smoke. My favourites are the Westerns. The 'blow on 7822's cylinder cocks seemed to improve as the day (and good weather) wore on. Sorry to hear she lost time. Outstanding was 80136. But well handled, the driver of 61264. Many many thanks. A good day!
@acw710008 жыл бұрын
Thanks very much, I agree, 80136 is a very capable loco and I have to say I'm glad I chose the location I did for 61264!

Cheers Chris, I think this was one of the best galas of the year for me. The Moors never disappoints, either with the scenery or the hard working locos

Manor looked like there was a bit of a leak from the cylinders in the first shot leaving Grosmont, but making a cracking sound and great light at 5:20. Std Tank putting on a great show with seven coaches as well.
@acw710008 жыл бұрын
7822 seemed to struggle on Friday, the shot you mention at 5:20 was the run which caused the timetable to be about 40 minutes late. The Standard tank seemed very capable on the bank, I think every preserved line would love to have one actually as they seem to be the ideal loco

Super nice video, with briljant shots en perfect video position points. I really enjoined looking the video. Thanks for sharing the 2016 memory with us. i was puzzling where you shoot the 17:30-19:30 min scene. Its a really beautiful video position which gives a very nice long shot of a hard working 61264 coming uphill. Please would you be so kind to explain where this video position is?

Excellent set of clips. How do you reach the spot at 13:35? Is it just off the rail trail? Kind regards. Cameron
@acw710006 жыл бұрын
Thank you. Yes the spot is off the rail trail a little way out of Esk Valley you'll see a footpath over a little bridge, go up the track and then go right and you'll come to it
@SecondValveSteam6 жыл бұрын
Thank you. Very helpful. I presume you can reach Green End the same way (i heard rumours that the overbridge was private property). Thanks again.
@acw710006 жыл бұрын
Yes you can continue through the fields alongside the railway to get to the Green End bridge. It is private so up to you whether to take the chance...many do, including me once or twice!

AndreiTupolev passionate hatred? Not really, just a dislike of all their samey 4-6-0s, manors, halls, castles and granges, generic tripe. I do like panniers, 14xx's,kings, collett goods and their heavy freight stuff like the 28xx

It is a long shot.... but what the hell?! I never noted loco numbers back in the day, but I'd really like to know which two 76XXXs headed our school trip from Aberystwyth to Chester (for the Zoo) circa May/June 1965, in the company of virtually all the Primary School age pupils of the town? Yipeeeeee. No school for a day AND a long run behind steam. First task: to drain the last two coaches of all their WC water. We'd managed this between Newtown and Buttington. Pointless you might say. And you'd be right!
@acw710008 жыл бұрын
Maybe pointless Stephen but boys will be boys! I bet there is someone out there who can give you the loco numbers. Presumably there wouldn't have been too many 76XXX's about at the time
@stephensmith7998 жыл бұрын
Yes and steam was to finish completely on our bit of the railway by March 1967, by which time the CCE and Evening Mail were back in the hands of 75XXXs. I reckon there were 10-11 coaches on the Chester trip, so it was quite a weight. I think we ran 'fast' all the way except for water stops. All I learned that day from an educational point of view was that some monkeys have very strange habits indeed! I can't get over the fact that the same train formation more-or-less can still be run today. Amazing.

Did I hear "Cock-a-doodle do" from the whistle.? That just added a humour element to a magnificent video.
