Brilliant video Austin. Superb coverage of the gala. All action and well chosen locations. Enjoyable watching. Thanks for posting showing what we missed as we were there a few weeks ago. Kind regards C&A

Thank you, yes it was a shame you couldn't have timed your visit so as to include the gala. You wouldn't have been disappointed!

Truly a hard working line in damp and difficult conditions - one of my favourites. A feast of GW in the beginning! A masterpiece of filming. Well done. Once again THANKS.

Thank you, it's probably one of the best lines for all out action even when there isn't a gala on. Western engines have always looked good at the Moors

Fantastic video, the NYMR never disappoint. Loved the first few shots of 5199 powering it up the gradients. What a sound!!

Thank you, really enjoyed seeing and hearing 5199 which was the star of the show for me (and all clag lovers I suspect!)

Absolutely superb Austin, I love this line, having walked every inch from Grosmont to Pickering over the years...another great Gala from the NYMR with plenty of variety of both trains and locomotive types, all captured to perfection despite the unpredictable weather conditions....Bob
@acw710007 жыл бұрын
Thanks Bob, my only regret is that they no longer have a spring gala so by autumn everywhere is a little overgrown. Despite some poor weather it was an enjoyable gala as expected from the NYMR

Cracking shots Austin, 5199 looks great with those Carmine and Cream MK1s. Lovely sound from 5199 working the steep gradients. Really like your last shot too. Regards JamesandPeter

Thanks James, 5199 was the star of the show for me, she was really being tested on those gradients

Excellent coverage Austin. Bit of a Western feel to this event - saved by Repton at the end ;o) . Been there many times over the years but some locations I've not tried before. I'll have to go again. Take care - Chris

Thanks Chris, should have put 'Repton' at the start for you so you wouldn't have had to suffer the rest! Always an enjoyable show at the NYMR

I've been looking forward to seeing this one, you can be sure of lots of noise. Lovely against the light shot of , that was 1501 wasn't it, and the Black 5 doubleheading out of Grosmont.
@acw710007 жыл бұрын
Thanks, yes 1501 with 45212. I was forced to shoot against the (unexpected!) sun as there was no place to park down at the bottom of the hill at Esk Valley

What a superb combination of hard-working steam and autumn colours, Austin! The sounds were extra-special at 03:00, 13:15, 17:45 and 19:40. 'Repton' looked to be performing even better there than on the SVR - or was that just imagination? Thoroughly enjoyed, thanks, whatever the answers! Kind regards, Bob.
@acw710007 жыл бұрын
Thanks Bob, 'Repton' has become a firm favourite of mine and she certainly coped very well with the 1 in 49 at the NYMR. I always look forward to visiting the railway as you always know the locos are going to be working hard
@mattseymour86373 жыл бұрын
@@acw71000 I always thought Repton did a good job up the 1 in 49 when I used to do lineside photography years ago. Great loco!

Do these firemen not realize that over-stoking an engine like much here, results in lousy combustion efficiency, and massive air pollution? Do they find thick black smoke somehow attractive? Really detracts, IMO.
@Rosie68576 жыл бұрын
I tend to agree though I've seen far worse in the earlier days of preservation. I think the problem is that these firemen are not doing it every working day of their lives and have little chance to practise their art. It takes a bit of experience, confidence and expertise to run with a thin hot fire. At least this line doesn't seem to attract the "superb clag" kindergarten mob.
@mattseymour86373 жыл бұрын
@@Rosie6857 if you had a thin hot fire on this line especially up the 1 in 49 gradient you wouldn't get very far and that's why they are firing with a deeper fire but keeping pressure at the same time. You can have a slightly deeper fire but still not over fire. It's a fine line but durable
