AD-1 Amp Dyno Soundstream Tarantula TXP1.18000D by Jones Subwoofer Solutions JSS
Manufacturer rated 7000w RMS @1 ohm.
Dyno bank consists of
1x 135ah CMAX, active charging provided by 2x DD SPS100.4
A NOTE FROM THE CHANNEL:
As mentioned in the video, this is a full bridge amp rated at 1 ohm. The manufacturer rates the minimum impedance assuming the amp will be connected to a reactive load, a subwoofer, rising above one ohm - and not a resistive load fixed at 1 ohm as such is the AD-1. We would not expect any trouble whatsoever if the amp was wired to 1 ohm in actual use.

@Scott Miller you're right... Soundstream used to be very legit. They still make decent products here & there, just have to know what Soundstream products to buy these days. Sad they went downhill. Scott I have still have a Soundstream headunit in one of my cars that I installed back in 2015. It's been solid up until a few months back. When trying to use the CD Player it will make it shut off & back on & then switch between all the media sources. Very frustrating & on top of that the radio transmitter has gotten to where it will not pick up local radio stations. So I'm ordering a new headunit. I was going to get the Bluetooth Soundstream double din w/navigation, DVD player etc but I think I'm going to shy away from Soundstream this go around & spend the extra $ on Sony. I really like the new Sony ax7000 that has the high output onboard 45 rms x4 channel class d amp built in. It is cta-approved rated rms which should sound nice until I stop being lazy & motivate myself to install my 4 channel amp.
@RomaVilla
@RomaVilla 3 жыл бұрын
@@itdoesntmatterwhatyourname6128 do they carry the same sony headunit in a single din. I need something like that because I keep frying my 6x9s evrytime I hook up a second amp to run highs or mids. I get a very dirty signal and ive tried just about everything except upgrading my stock alt because of some whining I get from just connecting the remote wire to second amp.

@@RomaVilla you are wanting a single din headunit that puts out 45 or 50 watts rms x 4 channels? If that's what you're asking then yes Sony also offers their "High Power" headunits in single din aswell, even make a couple of the High Powered units in Marine rated! Btw the Sony Ax7000 I mentioned in my previous comment is actually a single din chassis besides it having a full size almost 7 inch touchscreen. It didn't make much sense to me a touchscreen being single din because they a typically all double din chassis. But go look at pictures of the Sony ax7000 headunit so you'll understand how it is considered a true single din headunit then you'll see what I'm talking about. I'm thinking about pulling the trigger & going ahead to order it even though the ax7000 lacks some features that I think Sony truly should've included for their customers. Its chassis behind the touchscreen monitor is so small (like other single DIN headunits) & I think it is also slightly shorter in depth too which is why it does not have a DVD/CD Player.... The single din design sure seems like it will make it easier to fit in dashes where space is very limited. I know my vehicle does not have much space behind the dash so this unit should benefit me greatly as I have a lot of RCAs & other added wires, amp, dsp wires etc that I have to connect to the back of this headunit. Roma2189 Villa have a good day, hope my comment helped answer your questions or clear up confusion.

I love these tests! Thanks for the vid! Soundstream used to make amazing and reliable stuff. Now it seems like they just make amazing stuff. I had an old Rubicon that had unreal output despite being rated around 4x100. Had it down to 1 ohm for several years before it blew. Got one of their newer 5 channel amps and it sounded fine, but nothing like that old one and it blew up after a couple years running 2-4 ohms. Sucks that they don't have the reliability they once had.

@@hispls ohm will generally rise at best is 50 to 60% so 1.5 to 1.6 wired at 1 ohm. If you want to get technical. I've been going to competitions a long time and those some 1 ohm amps you could wired 1/2 ohm daily many you could not including name brands. And to see a true one ohm load you would have to be wired to point six to .67. And in some cases half ohm. Many of the old school amps would become incredibly hot running These ohms daily and shut off due to Thermal limitation. So often manufacturers would rate their amps on a 1 ohm resistive load because it's not a lie but the safe wiring rating would would be the wired ohm not the resistive ohm.

Lol yeah as if there isn't already enough amp dyno channels smfh. Jones really needs to step up his videos if he actually plans on surviving making these vids. This vid was very low b rated quality. C'mon its 2020. On top of that he's running welding cable for power & ground, yet he's using a $4000 plus amp dyno WTF!!!? Dude really needs to step it up! Yes, yes I know welding cable works... But why cheap out!? Not like quality OFC costs a fortune... Think maybe that welding cable could have played a small role into the amp popping at 1 ohm? We'll never know. BUT I WILL SAY it sure is odd that Big D was able to do a dyno test vid of this Soundstream 18k amp, he ran it at ohm & did more rms at 1 ohm than Jones did & Bid D did not pop his Soundstream 18k... Is it the welding cable, maybe other shortcuts that Jones took that may not have been as obvious on video, we may never know. I will say Williston Audio Labs is MUCH more professional & knowledgeable than the fly by night cat in this video. Lol everyone have a great day.

@@Facekicker I will never claim to know everything, only then does one cease gaining knowledge. So possibly I am lacking in my knowledge of welding cable. If so educate on my lack thereof. Imagine it this way. Dawn dish liquid is for washing dishes & greasy pots & pans. Do I doubt its ability to clean my body if I showered with it? Of course not. But that doesn't mean I use dish liquid to shower with due to it being more cost effective & possibly stronger on grease & dirt.? No, I still choose to use soap specifically made with the intended purpose of being used on human skin when showering. In the same way that welding cable's intended purpose is not for car audio. Will it work yes, does it perform in a superior manner when compared to a quality ofc copper power wire? Well, I would think not. That would be something you would have to prove to me. Then I would be stand up enough to admit I was wrong & had learned something new through being properly educated. Of course welding cable will be superior to a inferior power wire consisting of only 30% or less of true copper & using 70% or more of aluminum or whatever other fillers some manufacturers choose to use. BUT I can even name quality CCA power wires that have excellent performance ability & power transfer. So if a car audio company can make a mid tier CCA power wire that has achieved at powering a car audio build to a certified 180+ DB... Why not show some love by supporting that car audio business & running one of their power wires instead of welding cable? After all it is that type of mentality that keeps what we all love moving forward & progressing. Btw one of the companies I'm speaking of offers both CCA & OFC if one prefers one over the other. But for a person who has a passion for music & car audio doesn't using car audio power wire instead of welding cable just make sense? Idk, maybe I'm just missing something & if that's the case then its nobody's fault but my own. Though I was raised to & still believe in supporting locally owned independent business. Music & car audio being a long time passion of mine I try to support those working in the business who strive to keep it alive & moving forward! So far I'm not aware of any car audio companies making nor supplying welding cable for the use of power/ground wires. Though I haven't specifically looked neither. So Facekicker if you want to educate me on what you think I should know about welding cable, I'm all ears. I'll read whatever info you want to provide. I know everyone seems to have different preferences on many different subjects in car audio BUT preferences are not always facts. So if you want to take another moment of your time to bring me up to speed then I'll read any info you comment. Btw I didn't even bring up the usual difference in the strand size of car audio power wires when compared to the size of welding cable. Strand size can play a large role in the power flow & efficiency aswell. (Which I'm sure you already knew that) PS Facekicker I have seen this same model Soundstream amp tested on the dyno @1 ohm with no issues. It didn't fail.

This is something Big D needs to explain better (more often) in his tests. This is an incredible deal at $300 for over 6000 watts! For only $1200 you could have over 24000 watts rms! If you bought 4 of them. For the on sale price of a DC Pitbull 20k amp you could buy 9 of these amps and have 54,000 watts rms! And probably have money left over in case one or two of them pop! 😊

Just some constructive criticism. It's static load on the dyno not reactive. Reactive is on a sub. Also, you need to stop the track sooner. The amp popped because you ran it into the rails full clip at over 5,000 watts for almost five seconds. Five seconds full clip with that kind of power is of course going to overload the output section of the amp especially a cheaper amp. Other than that fantastic video keep em coming.

Can I blame the smoke and excitement? Resistive on the dyno, reactive on a sub - I got confused indeed. I don't think hitting pause sooner would have saved this amp though, the dyno had just barely locked the numbers down when it went, maybe 2 seconds later it popped. I see what you mean though.

@Facekicker
@Facekicker 3 жыл бұрын
A good power supply like the Taramps Procharger series will do standalone operation without a battery, but on 120v you'd be looking at 1000w of support max without adding battery or running multiple supplies. Each power supply would need its own 20a breaker as well. I am a Taramps dealer and if you'd like pricing or other info, you are welcome to message me through YT, or the Jones Subwoofer Solutions page on FB, Instagram, or the web.

Ive had one of these amps since they came out never ever once have i had any trouble with it. Im currently running 2 18 inch skar zvx d1v2 18s at 1ohm with zero issues. Got lucky today and bought a second one for a good price and now I'm searching for a set of 12s to run. @@nvx8k what problems were you having out of your Taramps md8000? (curious since I have a 1 ohm md8 amp) I'm shocked to hear that someone switched from 2 Taramps 8k amps to 2 of these Soundstream.... No way these Soundstream are putting out even close to the rms the Taramps do! And even those these Soundstream may not be as power hungry as some other Chinese I'll never believe that when wired at 1 ohm that these Soundstream are more efficient than the Brazilian Taramps. Even when a Taramps 8k putting out more rms than this Soundstream I still think the Taramps would draw less Amperage & be easier on the cars electrical system than these Soundstream "18000" *BTW I'm by no means a Soundstream hater. I know they make some decent products long as one knows which to buy & which to leave on the shelf. Too bad they aren't the same company they were a long time ago. They did make GREAT audio gear years ago instead of this mediocre stuff they make now. Idk my opinion bang for the buck & running at 1 ohm I prefer Taramps. That's just my preference & everyone has different opinions & different experiences with car audio products given they are running different quality wiring, alternators, batteries etc. *Current new amps I have: 1. Taramps Smart3 (been running it for months on a single 18 and pushing amp & sub both hard, have had problems out of neither. Plus I can't even begin to describe how amazed I am at how efficient the 3k Smart3 is! At full till playing rebassed rap I see ZERO voltage drop) 2. Agreed as a member of team soundstream im here to say all numbers that epsilon rates there products at are rated according to specs and this being a fullbridge amp with high current low power design in mind honestly sits real happy at 14.2 volts and the packaging also clearly states that it can be drivin at 16 volts testing was done at 14.4 and it recomends not to exceed 15 volts because the current draw is much higher than that of a standard halfbridge esspecially with a resistive load speakers in enclosures change there own impeadance quite a bit you never wind up being at 1 ohm due to the box rise so case in point sir you have diligantly shown the world how to improperly utilize an amplifier dyno

I say this with the caviot that I match my impedance to my speakers wattage necessity, so I can maxize the output of the speaker and don't abuse the amplifier with the hardest load. Also the sound quality of these amps is superb! And I mean full spectrum! So I'm running the the txp1.12000d @2ohm on 2 - L7 15 Qclass D2's. That call for 1200w rms... Each. There is no need to stress these amps down to a 1 ohm load. I'm getting 2830w (clamped) @40hz showing 13.9v, from an amp rated to produce 2300w @2ohm with14.4v. Think about that... It seams to me that there trashing other companies, he had ever intentions on blowing that amp, all others that tests amps never make comments like that, still good power from that amp as well as the Soundstream 6000d he trashed on.

@@justinkelsey9218 oh man, that's horrible! I'm sorry to hear. That's the stuff nightmares are made of. I had a tramp 3k that popped and my first amp a pioneer that popped but it's been a few yrs since I've smelled that horrible scent. Good excuse to upgrade
