There was a time when Blaupunkt was available only at exclusive retailers. They made a set of honeycomb flat speakers that cost a mint back in the day - but their sound was incredible. Granted, it's nowhere near its rated power, but, if I spent ~$50.00 for this amp, I would be quite happy with it. That harmonic might be a high frequency superimposed on the audio signal. No problem, subwoofers have enough inductance to ignore that. If you're using this as a 'full range' amplifier, that high frequency could damage tweeters, especially piezo tweeters, unless they have resistors in series with them. That high frequency bleed through is likely the result of magnetic core saturation of the output inductor. That will only happen, at very low output impedance, where the output current exceeds the saturation current of that inductor. You're absolutely right, to look at the fuses. That is a "dead giveaway" as to the theoretical output power of the amplifier.

Those voltage pulses are simple to deal with. The reason for the pulses has to do with the switching speed of the power supply and the inductance of the input cables. You can't just remove energy from an inductor without it unloading the energy it has. This is how these amps make 60-90V rail voltage from 12VDC in the first place by switching on/off a large inductor inside to create voltage pulses that are stored as rail voltage. Problem is that the switching supply instantly turning off the power on the DC input cable makes the inductance of the DC cable do the same thing that the inductance of the power supplies is doing... making voltage pulses. Mind you, the inductance of the cables is orders of magnitude smaller than the internal inductors... but still. A good amp amp would have a place for that stored energy to go or would (more likely) alternate the internal charging between two or more inductors so that the 12 volt cable didn't see the sudden current shut-off during peak current demands. At least one of low enough frequency to matter. Adding a couple good quality film caps (of proper voltage and pulse current capabilities) across the 12V input should fix it and looping the power supply cables through a ferrite core will keep it from propagating down the cable and radiating.
@marcr6749 Жыл бұрын
Agreed, good power for 50 bucks! I noticed the circuit board looked like the circuitry was split in half like they use the same board layout for a stereo amp. I wonder if they just internally bridged it and called it a mono block. The Chinese dont waste engineering on cheap electronics. It wouldn't surprise me if they want twice the amount of money for the stereo version but it is essentially the same amp unbridged with an additional speaker connector.

Blaupunkt GmbH was a German manufacturer of mostly car audio equipment. It was owned by Robert Bosch GmbH from 1933 until 1 March 2009, when it was sold to Aurelius AG of Germany. It filed for bankruptcy in late 2015 with liquidation proceedings completed in early 2016. The brand is now managed by GIP Development SARL of Luxembourg and is used on various product groups worldwide. All production was outsourced to China after the takeover. However, Robert Bosch Car Multimedia GmbH still manufactures mobile audio products for OEM integration and not retail sale branded electronics. That company is under the Bosch lane and is not to be confused with Blaupunkt. *All cut n paste like info from Wikipedia.

So, sometimes they get these wattage figures by pulse testing the amp for milliseconds, before some kind of current limiting is used to keep the amp from melting into a solid block of plastic. It's not going to pass 32a for long. Hence the term "continuous" which means it can deliver the rated power all day long. If no time duration is specified, they're not technically cheating, are they?

It absolutely works my Rockford fosgate punch p3 subwoofer and it's not even at max wack! Running old school blaupunkt velocity component speakers front and rear and it really sounds amazing through my alpine 3342

Seems like any company that starts out with great quality equipment goes way downhill when they get a large customer base.

Focal being an exception?

most of these companies were bought up by buying groups and conglomerates for marketing purposes to use the name and shifted all production to Chinese or amplifiers made in Taiwan or japan.

It's not bad for what it is at its price. If they just spec it properly I bet they sell more. Just make sure you get a fire extinguisher with it lol

My God! in the 80's the brand Blaupunkt was one of the most coolest and finest ., lot of people carry a big sticker with the brand Blaupunkt logo name in a complete lower side of their car meaning quality sound that comes from Germany. In the main page they are still selling modern car radios like the Santa Cruz 900, Sao Paulo 450 and Medellin 900 hey are Android/ Apple car play big sceen radios. I never like the name they choose for the radios.

Hi Derick. I am from South Africa, I like your channel and watch lots of videos. You are doing a great job. I see you test all kinds of amps and sometimes speakers. In this part of the world , manufacturers like Star sound , Targa , Ice power ect is quite popular. Did you test some of those or do you have some videos of those? i am running a very small audio system , using 1>< 12" Targa and a starsound mono block. The sub is rated at 4000w and the amp at 2000w , which i strongly doubt will ever push that type of power. What is your feeling toward these type of audio? I believe I could have done better with a 12" pioneer.
