Thank You for the review! I just received my copies of the Sentinel and the Gauntlet. I can’t wait to play them. I am going through my D&D stuff from the early 80’s, getting titles I’ve missed! Thank You for your reviews!

*I'm enjoying your reviews .* *I would love a series covering how to play & run AD&D 1e .*

I have these two modules, and have looked through the other UK ones. It seems they all have good presentation and graphic design. Clear maps, stylistic choices that have a more creative flair. I really enjoy the visuals in them.

I was not fond of the cover, but I bought the module immediately anyway because I could. 😛 I did like the overall monster listing in the front as a handy reference guide. The concept of the module was fairly brilliant to me, because it was a difference from the usual search->kill->loot that quite a few adventures were. I LOVE and have always LOVED the Fiend Folio! I liked the art greatly and I loved the whole surprise factor of FF monsters since almost no players here in the states knew anything about the FF monsters, even if they could quote the stats for every creature in the Monster Manual. 😀And that's still fairly well true. Which is why I still pull monsters from the old FF for my games now, because I can't always create new ones or modify existing ones. 😀 I think 7 of 10 is maybe a little high for this as a stand alone. It deserves it if one has both UK2 and UK3 and can run them back to back, but otherwise it needs some help from the DM to make the ending make any sense at all to a continuing campaign. Which, admittedly, almost any experienced DM is often happy to do, because it's fun creating new things. 🙂 Well done!

It was fine. It is magic weapon light. The artifact gave it an interesting vibe. Mystery was interesting. Sentinel vs Gauntlet did feel a little like the DM fighting himself. Look forward to your gauntlet review. I'd give it a 6 and maybe the whole thing together is a 7.

I have a bit of a love/hate relationship with the Fiend Folio, but leaning toward love. It's such an extreme take on a D&D monster book. Everything is either extremely cool (Sons of Kyuss), extremely dumb (Flail Snail), or extremely weird (Lava Children). What tips the balance for me is Russ Nicholson's art. Maybe it's the horror fan in me, but I'm captivated by the sheer grotesquery of it. Really drives home the fact that most of these things are monsters in the truest sense of the word.

Looks like it will be perfect for my level 3 party.

It is - but only if accompanied by UK3 because that's the better of the 2.

That cover has always put me off going anywhere near this one, but you’ve just persuaded me to give it a go.

As I said in the review, UK2 by itself is a little ordinary - best combine it with UK3 :)
