I paid to have all my stuff removed, and in 2021, with a suitcase and a backpack, I moved to Queretaro at 79. I always used Rubber Maids 13 and 20 gallons to store things I was not using, I gave each RM a number, and I used index cards to record contents and RM number. Deadly to sell, I moved to a beautiful furnished Airbnb, that included everything, maid and security. You still must be alert and block your doors, against dishonest security maids etc,].

I began my aggressively decluttering on April 17, 2017 and am still working on it. I've done a purge once per quarter (charity pick-ups, dumpster trips, selling stuff). I am close but have not yet purged enough to feel light and free. Adalia is so right about decluttering taking time! I've been at it aggressively for 7 years because of guilt and attachment. By summer 2024 I will have reduced my physical possessions to an amount that doesn't make me break out into hives with overwhelm. I will have reduced everything to just the things I absolutely love or absolutely need to be well. It's harder now because I'm now surrounded only by a bunch of stuff I really like so the focus has shifted from what I no longer need to what I can live without. It's the only way I can move forward. Taking my time has been such a gift to myself! It's allowed me to have the conversations, mourn the memories, be strong, be weak, be confused, feel the guilt, learn the lessons and feel the pounds (of stuff) fall off. One other benefit to starting the exodus declutter early is it gives you something to do! I don't have the money or means to leave now but I enjoy watching all of the testimonials and channels of women who have done so and are in the process of doing so. If I didn't have decluttering to focus on I'd feel stuck. This keeps me moving forward and I believe that by the time I'm completely done with my downsizing, everything else I need in order to leave will find me. In the meantime I declutter, I take Adalia's investing course and I attend Exodus Summit. This was a great video (as usual), Adalia. Thank you for sharing!☺

I'm 50. I know EXACTLY what you mean❕ I started decluttering in 2022, I JUST completely closed out my storage I've had for 15 years. It's been a Serious process. But rewarding as well. I always feel lighter and more Free each time I release myself from another level of dead weight, I didn't even realize I was carrying. Congrats 🎉. And keep up the good work.

I use a method that I made up where I get rid of one pound of stuff a day. Or at least that is my goal. So far I have been successful on averaging that amount. Personally if I try to sell something and it doesn't sell, I almost always offer it to buy nothing group in my neighborhood. I think what makes me happy is to know that my stuff is not going in the trash unless it's totally worn out.In which case I will throw it in the trash.

This is so helpful! I’ve moved three times since my divorce in 2020. Downsized each time and have become very acquainted with all of these mothers to get rid of stuff. I’m thankful I had time to be deliberate and mourn the losses as I prepare for a season of slow travel in the next couple of years. I’m down to my last two containers. One has photo albums that I need to digitize and the other is full of my children’s items (t-shirts, sports jerseys, baby clothes, etc.) that I’m sending out to be made into three quilts once my youngest graduates in May. One for each of them and one for me. I figure it’s a practical way to capture their childhood memories.

My children and I culled over 8,000 photographs down to 2000 or so. Now, I am considering digitizing th photos, but what to do with the trophies? Should I just take a picture of the trophies and digitize them?

I am currently weeding and digitizing some individual photos, album pages and family documents for cloud storage. There are only 4 of us left and we're in different states. Even though my sister will take the quilt that our great-grandmother made, I will take picture of it so we'll have a record of it. I will do the same with trophies of those who are gone but will throw them away.

Great job on weeding the photos. My family took pictures of everything, it seems, and then had duplicates. I worked in a small archives and the focus was saving.... so it is difficult at times.
@AdaliaAborisade7 ай бұрын
Dig into your reason for keeping the trophies. Are they things that you want in your life? Then they should be in your home. If just knowing you won them is enough, maybe a photo or collage framed in your new home will suffice. If you died next Tuesday, would your kids want them? If so, let them have the trophies now.
