I have the HS80s and the Adam A7X. The money spike is revealed in the translation to every other source. I don't even car test with the Adams, they translate to everything well. Ironically, my mixes end up sounding even better in my car after mixing through them. Yamaha's don't translate as well but they sound amazing in the studio. I check with the HS80s after I do my final mixes with the Adams monitors.

This is the reason i dont have a pair in front of me right now. I have the 1st gen m-audio bx8's till 2007 and one of them is a bit off, so i went to a store to listen to the Adams to upgrade to them. Everything sounded great except for those lows, it sounds like the graph shows in this video, everything is so nice until the 45hz drop that is huge. In tracks i ve listened i didnt feel the double bass bottom or if a kick was fighting with a 808 etc. Im going to listen the a5x with a sub and il see, cause a7x with sub are to expensive for me, i love everything else but i need to feel the low end and also have a lot of headroom as a bass player who uses them for recording and playing with my roommate who is a drummer (something i did with ease with my bx8)

It's so wierd how we all hear differantly as I am of the total opposite opinion and hear the Yamahas as being a bit too much in the high end compared to the Adams! Sounds about right, my experience with the A7x's vs the avantone's is they actually sound pretty similar but the A7x have a broader range. HS8's far low end sounds exaggerated even though it has the same hole in the low mids that the adam's have. Curious lf these were all level matched.

@DodgingRain Yamaha has 8 inch speaker Adam has 7 so Yamaha will have more bottom end naturally, from other A7X reviews I've seen they say i lacks a little in the bottom end, so the Yamaha might be just about right
@dodgingrain36953 жыл бұрын
@@jedstephensmusic0001 there's more to bottom end than just cone size.
@DaftFader Жыл бұрын
@@dodgingrain3695 Yeah but if you don't want your low end to sound doggo cos you forced it too much from the cab design when the cone's aren't designed to get anywhere near it, then starting off with a larger driver puts you closer to the mark. Adam probably didn't want to compromise the sound by forcing a 7 inch to go lower than it can reasonably handle whist still having tight timings for bass phase relation reasons. The Adam A8X and the HS8's go lower for this exact reason, and would be a more fair test like vs like if you're going to compare low end reach. There's a reason good quality smaller speakers roll off the low end, even though they could make them go lower with cab design.
@harryharris16193 жыл бұрын
The bass on the yamaha HS8 (which is back ported) is more present most likely due to the room and the fact it uses an 8" main vs the Adam's 7". The left leaning balance on the HS8 is also probably due to the back port interfacing with the room acoustics etc. Neither one came very close to the source tracks in this test but again is probably due to the test environment and the combined mics in the portable recorder used in the test. It is really difficult to decide on speakers based on youtube tests but the pro audio brick and mortor stores are becoming obsolete.

Ive got a pair of Adam A77X (the horizontal 3 way monitor) and the HS8's, and although the A77X's are certainly clearer and overall 'better', in no way are the HS8's humiliated which is a testament to how much they punch above their weight. They do become a bit fatiguing after a while whereas the Adams do not, but it's nice to switch to the HS8's as a quick reference before returning to the A77X's. The A77X do not require the addition of a sub (cant speak for the A7X). Many here have reported a superior HS8 bass extension on the video. In person this is not the case imho and has more to do with wall proximity (HS8's are rear ported) and the listeners environment.

Just bought the A7X and HS8 and will be returning the A7X. I'm using it for hifi listening midfield (7 feet). The HS8 was a bit boomy so pulled it into the room and the bass tightened right up. I just don't like the AMT tweeter from Adam. It sure if more impressive for a 15 min listening session and offers a bit more sizzle on the top end. I just find it's distracting and irritating for long listening sessions. Would like to try Focal Solo monitors next.
@ju1ceaudio3 жыл бұрын
Ah yeah man these moniters don't work very well mid field tbh unless your room is treated very well. I found the best sound out of my adams by sitting as close as possible to them

The Yamahas sound boxy and have poor imaging. The soundstage is MUCH more open on the Adams/more depth.
@ju1ceaudio3 жыл бұрын
Yes the adams are more resolute and have faster transients. The bass is lacking though, that is there main flaw but I run a sub with them crossed at 80hz.

so with the adams they want you to use their center and sub with the moniters but yamaha tried to give us an all in one ?

We'll it is a 7inch woofer vs 8 inch. I'm sure the a8x would beat the Yamahas out easy. I current use the a7x with jbl lsr310s sub and I love it.

Do you find the mix cubes useful? And if so, what for? I recently bought one.
@ju1ceaudio3 жыл бұрын
Im use one in my studio for mono playback to hear if stereo reverbs or delays are canceling. Also to see what is clashing in the mix. I am still getting used to it. Thriller album was mixed mostly on a similar speaker.
@totizedger3 жыл бұрын
The Yamaha HS8 sounds boxy compared to the Adam which definetly has more prominent highs and even seems slightly harsh to be honest, the Yamahas sound muffled in a way. The Avantone Mix Cubes are worst without a doubt but it only has a woofer though so maybe hard to really compare to the other two. In my opinion the Adam A7X wins

There is just one thing, your hs8 are uneven, meaning the left was hotter than right. sounds like you needed to turn up the right a twinge. but even with that, the hs8 more even over all, and more detail, wasn't expecting that.
@ju1ceaudio3 жыл бұрын
The volume pots were the same with mogami wires so i guess that says a little bit about the yamahas! i didnt notice till i was editing in post. We use these with sonorworks which fixed the volume imbalance. Yeah hs8s are very detailed for the price , especially compared to the jbl lsr308s. I heard there is a mod called zen pro that switchs some converters that makes them sound ever more better.

HS8 SOUNDS MORE TRUE TO THE ORIGINAL. ESPECIALLY IN THE MIDS. GREAT VIDEO. A GREAT HACK TO MIXING AND MASTERING IS TO USE AN EQ THAT EMULATES THE CUBES AND NS10 SOUND BY CUTTING HIGH AND LOW SO YOU CAN NAIL THE MIDS... THEN BYPASS THAT EQ TO FINISH THE REST.
@ju1ceaudio11 ай бұрын
Nice yeah thats a good way people do it. But then the crossover is still in the way of the midrange if its not a point source driver.

@ju1ceaudio2 жыл бұрын
yeah the adams have a lil more lower mids but they are bright in person
@DaftFader Жыл бұрын
That's because the Yamaha's are coloured to sound nice, not be flat. The Adam's are flat .. but don't sound "Amazing" when directly compared directly to something with hyped highs and lows, but you'll notice it when you start mixing on them both and only one translated to other speakers well.
@indyawichofficial13468 ай бұрын
Yamaha's freq response is actually very flat, you can check many technical reviews. The monitor is very well balanced, with upfront high mids. Knowing that charts and real life use may differ, but would not call Yamaha's HS 8 "smiley" - they have just extended low end, and upfront high end. They actually translate very well if placed in proper room with acoustic treatment and positioning. Some even call them "sterile". I would call some KRK's hyped, but definitely not HS8. There is not many better monitors in this price range/segment than 8inch HS8 from Yamaha.
