Psiberzerker You are correct that it is a sign of intelligence... if you are being honest. By ignoring some of his worst offenses in this video, he is being dishonest by making it seem that most of his mistakes are either minor, or non offensive. I would have been more impressed if he had actually corrected some of his incorrect statements that were made to insult or slander.

We find out about everything through trial and error. So we only have certain evidence that is more credible than something else, until something better comes to light then we discredit the old and accept the new. Not actual facts. If we would live by facts then nothing would change, because nobody would question anything. As for religion, 90% of religions are stubborn, because they are legal cults that are mass marketed at this point. Because such a thing as science, killed religion.

Luke Taylor I don't think people are trying to make things perfect when they offer constructive criticism. It's meant as aid, not attack. It's like, "you seem to be struggling with that, allow me to help you out a bit," vs, "you're doing something wrong, and you should feel bad." I think it's a generational thing, but many of us were taught to assist people when we saw a need, or we were shitty citizens if we turned a blind eye when we could've helped.

I don't think it takes a lot of courage and humility to admit your own mistakes. I mean if you make one, admitting it isn't hard, at least not for me or those close to me. If others have different experiences that's fine, but I don't think we should applaud people for correcting themselves, we should expect such things as the norm, not make it something special.

This is really great. We need a culture more open to admitting mistakes and a culture in which it is not seen as a point of weakness, but of strength.
@dunzerkug
@dunzerkug 6 жыл бұрын
It is happening slowly, look at the US military for example. While they still do some shady shit they have gotten much stricter with accountability and has gotten significantly better at being open with major problems since Vietnam (My Lai Massacre aftermath and agent orange clean up). While it's not to a point people would like to see it (rape cover ups and Chelsea Manning leaks), it has lead to more open disclosures when there are major incidents. The big issue with culture is it takes decades to change, the generations that are more open about mistakes are only just getting to the ages they can lead more dramatic change. People who never lived through Cold War propaganda are just now in their late 20's and very early 30's which is the ages when you can finally run for major elected offices in countries like the US. This has been seen in places like NYPD after Serpico, it took decades to get to where they are now which is a much better place but they still have major work to do weeding out bad cops.

They cherry picked a lot of stuff to make that segment. 1. The claim. It's only beneficial if you are replacing it with an old car is a complete joke. If I trade in a 2 year old car, they don't crush the car, someone buys it and replaces an older car etc. To the point of actually taking a car off the road. 2. Other claims were "if" your charging your car off coal. Coal is slowly being replaced, hardly anywhere is coal the main supply to the electrical grid. 3. Whenever they compared the car to gas car, they compared it to a prius, which is one of the most efficient gas cars out there. Basically every stat and fact they used, they cherry picked it to make the electric car look less efficient.

Adam isn't a lone person making the research and creating the episodes. There is a team there. Adam is only the front man who's name is used. Yup, now i can trust what they say more because i know if it is objectively wrong they'll correct it. Whereas previously i would only be able to notice mistakes if i researched it. Now my research is outsourced to any expert who watches the show and will then write in to complain and result in a correction presumably. Still not 100% trustworthy as nothing can be, but improved

mistakes. I get annoyed with him often as he has these mistakes and it's stuff I agree with, but he gives misinformation and kills the idea of why I agree with it. Or often times he builds up strawmans to go after which at the start weren't so obvious or weren't there, but now are painfully obvious. Or he leaves out information that should of been stated that without pushes his point farther like in the wedding ring episode where he claimed that diamond rings weren't around till a company pushed the idea of it. Which is true, but its stretching it as rings were actually a common thing it was the diamond on top that the company pushed, not the ring itself. Or in the tipping episode he doesn't give the fact that if a employee is on a tip wage and doesn't make the minimum wage of the state with the tips included then the employer must top off their wage to that amount. So overall we get these small mistakes which become bigger because he likes to reference back to make a overall point with the pieces all put together, strawmans which honestly really need to stop, and not a complete show of facts. The 1st and 3rd are things that can fall to human error like the not knowing about that law on tipping, but sometimes its just a bit to much of a mistake to be missing the fact that rings were normal for engagement and even in the video for it shows it as not a thing showing a couple get engaged with a apple (obviously as satire), but in actualality there would be a gold a silver ring there.

I urge you to think critically about some of the non factual statements he's made. There are instances where he very intentionally lies to people and replaces some misinformation with new information. One off the top of my head is "fat doesn't make you fat" In this current video he misrepresents everyone's criticism of him by stating that most of the major criticisms were just people not understanding him while ignoring the real lies hes told.

I am sure everyone, with an education and a basic understanding of economics, physics, and common sense, came to the conclusion that, keeping their piece of crap model shitbox on the road is better than buying a new electric car, at least for the environment. The whole message at the end was to appeal to the fuckpotatos who didn't get it. So this leaves a tiny minority of pure bred fuckpotatos, or just one, with an audience, having the ability to sway the conversation with weaponized autism. Like the threat of nuclear war but in a media clip, or text box.

I genuinely can't understand the logic some people have that if a show uses science and data to back up its points but makes a mistake or two, the ENTIRE show is suddenly invalidated. New studies come out that debunk old ones, new technology and studies emerge that help us gain greater insight or disprove previous thinking all the time. To say that acknowledging these means the show as a whole is wrong is to say that human beings as a whole should never advance forward, correct our past mistakes, and strive towards a better understanding of our environment. Not only that, some of these mistakes aren't even based on new studies but rather that they made a genuine mistake (the Empire State Building example for instance). The writing staff is human, and humans miss things like this a lot. It's far better for the show in the long run to point out these faults rather than claim that everything they have ever done is flawless.

@Toraxa 6 жыл бұрын
Is it really that hard? They said incredibly clearly that the production of a new vehicle, even a green one, produces more carbon than driving an existing car would. The point is that replacing a perfectly good efficient carbon fuel vehicle with a newly made electric one isn't doing the world any good. Buy a green vehicle when you need a new vehicle rather than replacing a working one.

I applaud this. People tend to think their opinions define them and any see any attempts to change their opinions as attacks on them. We should be free from that mentality. As Bertrand Russell said, "I wouldn't die for my beliefs because I might be wrong."

Feynstein 100 well your not entirely wrong, but not entirely right. Where would we be without a stable set of beliefs that can keep our morals in check? Though the opposite can also be true.
@andrewg9433

They actually talk about this in the episode later. Humans are and always will be very emotional as a species, rarely are people hard logical. Presenting facts that contradict a person's very identity cause their brain to perceive it as an attack and cause the same response as physical pain, putting them into a fight or flight situation and cause them to make emotional arguments that can be argued against to put an end to it. Changing minds is actually hard to do, but not impossible.

@@Itmeb why are you instantly making your own summation if you were genuinely curious? All this says is you're an idiot. And absolutely. Two big ones. The alpha male video where he talks about it not existing (while then accidentally proving it does exist, but still spewing bogus stories on it and not the truth of what happened with the original GROUP that studied wolf packs and ignored that other animals do have alpha males in it as well.) or the video game history where he made up some lies to justify claiming it was just a sexist market from the beginning and completely ignored that in the 90's they did market video games to girls, especially with the barbie brand games. Female gamers would possibly play them, but female gamers were more likely to play the games 'advertised to boys' as he put it so they stopped making 'games targeted to girls' and a lot of them just became 'targetted to gamers' until feminists kept screeing that they needed to be a part of something they weren't already ruining. Which is the rhetoric in that video Adam repeats, which was false. point being, he only did corrections on things that he could say were minor oopsies, and not the ones that were blatantly easily provable lies that he still wanted to promote, which you can tell his mindset on this shit from his interview with Joe Rogan.
