Especially in Liberal Western societies.

Sol I was talking more in general... Also, does it really matter *how* these women got to power? (it's not like they killed and murdered) The point is that they fought against all odds and made a place for themselves in a world that didn't want them there (in a place of power that is). And unlike so many of the awful people in history that rose to power yet selfishly kept all their wealth to themselves (ex: Emperor Nero, Emperor Crassus, Queen Maria Antionette, some idiot named Trump, etc. etc.), these women used their wealth to help people, contribute to society, and make the world a better place. So what if they had to spread their legs to get there? That shouldn't take away from the great achievements they accomplished. Lemme ask you this: If a girl had to spread her legs to make extra money to save her dying mother. Ended up not only saving her mother's life but *also* putting herself through college with the "whore" money and becoming a doctor. Would you say that what she did does not constitute as an accomplishment simply because she had to have sex to get there. Need I remind you that some of the greatest and most benevolent or successful rulers in history have started their lives out as whores and slaves (ex: Empress Theodora of Byzantine). It doesnt' matter how you sacrificed your body in the beginning to get somewhere, it's what you did after you got there.

I know the focus is on prostitutes, but you should have also mentioned the influx of mail order brides and their contribution to the West.
@robertcorbell10062 жыл бұрын
The mail-order brides and the circuit riders converted the prostitutes and the money left over went towards building the churches to feel guilty in. Plus virtue-signalling their view of women voting is utterly inane when you consider that Wyoming needed double the votes to get into the Union and the male territorial leaders were allowing what they felt was an act of strategic pragmatism.

It doesn't ruin it for feminists, allolp. they're more happy that female influence was able to change history for the better, and that there *was* (as in not as strong a power anymore, but did exist) a patriarchy (where women couldn't vote and not many options for women in general leading to prostitution and marriage. At least the former option was beneficial).

I find it amusing how people still think that legal prostitution is somehow incredibly liberal. If sex wasn't so dramatized in society, having that type of career wouldn't sound that bad.
@CogniVision8 жыл бұрын
It's because people are so quick to forget history. Prostitution used to be a respectable career for a woman.
@stealthbacon44058 жыл бұрын
Tammy V it is stupid to have prostitution legal because disease will spread at a much more rapid rate and you're boy freeing would always be cheating on
@amag1406968 жыл бұрын
Yeah, no. In a modern society there could be plenty of regulations to ensure that it's sanitary and safe. Look at the Amsterdam Red Light District, perfectly legal, perfectly safe.
@elenpena425648 жыл бұрын
1- Most prostitutes make you wear a condom 2- If a guy is going to cheat on you, he's going to cheat anyway, being legal or not (An if it was legal I bet cheaters would be easier to catch)
@Illier18 жыл бұрын
In their defense in the Civil War, right around the same time, brothels were a major factor in an explosion of STDs and disease, it got so bad they literally had to keep soldiers away from districts or even entire cities. Also while we love to idealize the Madam as a heroic protector they were also just glorified pimps who often used their girls for their own gain. Sex is a powerful force, and while it's awesome to have free love prostitution is still risky and costly to those who may not follow the rules.
