@@oscarthagrouch you can get it by kissing (mouth to mouth) if they have either HSV-1 or HSV-2 in the oral area. Usually its most contagious if there’s an active sore, but asymptomatic viral shedding occurs which can also be contagious. You can get either variation genitally as well, whether through oral sex and/or other types of sex.

Also "herpes" can be a lot of different strains of things. For example, chicken pox is a form of herpes so since I had chickenpox when I was younger, I guess I can say I had herpes. I think that many people associate stds with prominicious without realizing you don't have to be get one and most people get it from kissing a relative when they are younger.

I was given HSV 2 by someone who didn't even know he had it until I had an outbreak. It felt like the end of the world at first but now, it's not a big deal at all. Some people freak out about it and some don't when I have to tell them that I have it. But honestly, I forget that I have it most of the time because it's so mild.

Abstinence best form of safety? I got Chicken Pox when I was young. Years later, my parents freaked when the doctor said I have the Herpes Zoster. My catholic parents asked if I sinned and asked me to go for confession and ask for forgiveness. Well, I did not sinned. There were alot of judgement, misery and emotional outbursts. Much later the doctor had to explain that I had Shingles. Nothing to do with sex. So, yeah, there you go. They are many forms of Herpes. Get your facts straight before casting the stone.

Yup. It was bad. Was in pain and had to bear the judgement. Not nice. But in the end, the doctor did explain things. Scary how one word, "Herpes", made so many jump to conclusions. Freaked me and my whole family out.

One point about oral herpes: Do not kiss babies if you have oral herpes. Don't kiss babies if you're sick in general, but oral herpes (which is mild in adults, as shown in the video) can turn into an incredibly severe and occasionally deadly infection in infants.

Sadly, it's not even the virus itself, it's the stigma that comes with it. Because of that, so many with it are afraid to try and be in a relationship out of fear of being ostracized over something they had no control over getting (and over 90% of people who contracted it weren't sleeping around or being unsafe, they were cautious and yet contracted it through a mistake).

Yep. I got genital herpes from an ex who didnt known carried it. I got my first rash 6 years ago, and then my second when I got my Covid vax since that messed with my immune system. I usually get them 2-3 Times per Year. It's a massive self-esteem killer, especially if I get more than 1 at the same time and it's obvious. Like right now, for example, a cluster of 6 tiny ones right below my bottom lip. I cut them open and apply Abreiva obsessively as soon as I notice them, they usually go away after a week or two.

That 90% value is severely diluted with other strains of herpes including chicken pox. The general population thinks herpes is just an STD which you didn't clarify. And 4 in 5 may have *a strain of herpes* (of which there are 8) but 4 in 5 DO NOT have the STD variant

I was born the year HIV was discovered so naturally by the time I was in high school we had a lot of no sex or only safe sex education without much real explanation because they wanted to prevent the spread of HIV. I feel being honest about STDS would be more impactful like yes for some people Herpes can be severe but not for most and yes you can get HIV which is why you should wear protection and get tested regularly.

Most people actually get herpes as children! from their parents kissing them goodnight. Some lucky people show no symptoms, but others show it with cold sores. But almost everyone has it and its nbd. Everyone just hears STD and thinks the worst but its not necessarily sexually transmitted. Like I said nearly all cases start with your parents infecting you.
