It really is amazing! Wish we could get a hold of these stl files too. I'd love to learn how to do this sort of work. I wouldn't have access to a mill. But being able to match up some of this work to self support build. Then run lighting and switching. Would be a fun hobby to build a show piece diorama from this.

Yeah, this is the /only/ thing that's made me the slightest bit interested in Starfield. Before now, I've just been ignoring everything about it- Bethesda hasn't really impressed me in the last several releases- but if anything's going to break my apathy boycott, it's Adam Savage.

Absolutely, this is a perfect synergy between different nerdy interests. Everyone loves a nice model, even those of us who don't build our own, and then there's the extra hook of looking behind the scenes on old-school practical movie-making. This one project hits about six different dopamine centres in my geeky little brain, and I am VERY into it.

If Todd dares say "It just works" while in earshot I'd be curious which team lynches him first. While anyone can build a kit, the work that goes into creating a kit (or a one-off) is mind blowing. I've built a few kits in my time and it's fascinating to see the different things that have to be considered during this process. And as this goes forward I'm sure I'll be wondering more than once just how much time is saved simply because of the experience everyone brings to the table.

@@CworthDynamics That's outstanding work Sean, I'm so happy to see this online. And i loved you highlighted how internal ribbing is paramount when printing thin accurate parts to avoid warping. I'vd started printing big scifi ships lately and they sure made me learn Blender at a much faster pace than expected. One question bothered me during the whole video is your mention of threaded inserts. Did it mean you 3d modeled (or boolean McMaster models) the inserts or did you drill and epoxied real inserts into the ship parts ?
@CworthDynamics
@CworthDynamics Жыл бұрын
@@the_arcanum I used press-fit expanding inserts - just modeled holes to drill size they specify. I have used heat set inserts with resin prints as well but it puts off really nasty fumes and I don't like using them as much. Work great on filament prints though.

actually really love the lasers that they don't need to be flipped/mirrored, cus what ever factory makes them doesn't need to have to do that since it is just a functional weapon that slots in, you don't need another manufacturing line just so your ship looks symmetrical, only stuff that is involved in flying is really needed to be symmetrical. So much effort and love has gone into these designs it's really inspiring to see someone just go "I won't mirror this laser, it might look good mirrored, but it wont make sense in the world" Masterful work ♥

Seeing Adam and his team nerding out the project gives me hope about the game. He has that same energy that he had during the expanse series!

Watching this many talented people go HAM on this project is so fun to watch! So many skills being used on display for us to absorb some knowledge.

Have you seen anything anywhere about the files becoming available. I would certainly purchase them.

Unless Bethesda releases them, I'm betting the STLs they made for this will remain private. Likely something that was covered in the contract they signed.

Just wait fo the game to release and export the files with the usual mod tools. Have to clean up for printing yourself though. Or check all the 3D printing sites. Eventually someone is gonna release something similar.

What an amazing job to have, especially for a model that has moving parts!!!

I feel SO validated seeing the double-wash of the 3d prints! Been doing the same for as long as I've been printing and have been asked a fair few times why the double-dip method... It get SUCH a cleaner end result!!

It's very informative for me to see how a model is designed. Many times in my life, I tried to put models together and I had to stop and ask myself "what the hell were they thinking?" Now, I see just how difficult it is to calculate and create every little part. This was before 3D printing. I envy you all. Thank you for doing this for us to watch. I think that watching you is easier than doing it myself. I love work; I can sit and watch you for hours! 👍

"Lived in, loved on, and just a little bit hurt" This is so poetic. I'm going to be using this :) Removing supports from my prints is almost as satisfying as removing the masking tape from my paintings

Hi Folks, this has to be one of your most exciting and fun projects for me. Just the enthusiasm and joy demonstrated by the crew took me back in time. As a Septuagenarian model builder and still building, you took me back when neighbourhood friends and I would take our soapbox racer around the houses scrounging bottles to return to the off- licence for a refund of cash type money. Which we spent on these new fangled plastic kits to build. It would take two to three weeks to get enough funds for one kit unless we stopped at the bakers on the way to the shop that had the kits. :o).....................Thanks again. Looking forward to the next part.
