This video explains a lot. I just watched GB: Afterlife with my kids today, and the ECTO-1 stood out for several reasons. First, we have a car that harkens back to the originals. Very cool. However, when they fired it up in the movie, I immediately perked up...."That cam lope sounds awfully aggressive to me...I think this one's got a rodded crate motor" is what I was thinking to myself in the theater. Then the way the ECTO-1 was driven in Afterlife was incredible. Major credit to the drivers, mechanics and engineers of Afterlife, to see y'all race that beast around the way you did was a real treat, and truly impressive. I came home and went looking for answers on the car and drivers and ended up here.

@Mikey_G3 жыл бұрын
Well, I watched this video and then the algorithm suggested another video from the official ghostbusters channel about how it was fully restored a year ago (video published). So either we’re looking at a lot of prop-weathering, or these aren’t the same cars 🤔
@jmiller9913 жыл бұрын
@@Mikey_G I think you are talking about the full restoration done for promoting the Ghostbusters video game on 360/PS3? That was over a decade ago, and I think the car was left outside the Sony studio's HQ since then, so could be real weathering? (if the same car)
@prodestrian3 жыл бұрын
I believe this is actually the ECTO-1A from Ghostbusters II, the original ECTO-1 was restored a decade ago and sits on display at Sony. The 1A was supposed to be restored at the same time but it never happened. But I'm assuming the majority of weathering on this is prop weathering.

I think the great think about the ecto 1 being a 59 Cadillac is that it’s damn near 62 years old at this point. So any surviving one that you find that isn’t converted into an ecto 1 already has been sitting and it comes with all the fantastic free weathering from its years of use. You can just tell by looking at the car what is original age, and it’s gorgeous that they left it.

Have bad news for ya. They completely restored the car in 2009 for the video game promotion. The wear and tear you see on the Ecto-1 now is all cosmetic. Even worse, this may not even be the original Ecto. There have been rumours that the original Ecto is tucked away on Paramount studios still, but I recall Jason saying somewhere that 2 of the 3 cars they used are from the original movies, but don’t quote me on that. Base on Adam kissing this Ecto, I’d bet my life savings that this particular Ecto he drove is thee original Ecto-1. The one thing is for certain at the time of this comment is that they had used 3 Ectomobiles for this movie, all aged to look like this.

Must admit, I spent much of the video scrutinising the weathering. Some of the exposed rust was definitely just paint, other bits looked more realistic but they could just be parts that get close-ups and still could easily be paint jobs, just better ones. I'd be interested to know if this car was scratch built or a real old car. Either way, I'm sure they know how iconic this is and how much it'll be worth, so if it is a real car, any rust will have been treated to stop it spreading, or removed, filled and replaced with painted rust.
@bonivuselderheart27163 жыл бұрын
If it's the same rolling chassis that I saw back in 2011, it was an actual car and not a scratch-built; the one I saw had a ground cover under the engine bay to catch the oil from the engine. The weathering/aging job that was done on the finish looks awesome compared to the near showroom shine finish my pictures from the 2011 event show.

I am not a big car guy but man that engine sound gives me goosebumps. And the siren is so iconic! WOW!

while they say they engin isn't what would be in it I would expect Egon and Ray to LS swap it and beef up the suspension just because they could.

especially since parts for both the original 390 V8 and suspension are getting harder and harder to find; it would also explain why there are so many parts cars on the property itself.

Watching Adam having such a good time with Ecto-1 does my heart good.

The way he's describing the stunts the car has to do is telling me that I'm not gonna like the new movie. Why does every new movie now have to involve a car chase? I haven't even seen a preview yet and I can already tell the movie is crap and with two bad ones in a row now I guess the franchise is dead, what a disgrace. I'm glad you got to drive it but I miss the old days with good writing over special effects and "cool camera angles".

I got to drive a mid-60s Cadillac ambulance once. It accelerated surprisingly well for its size. A very smooth driving experience, although not built for taking curves super-fast, obviously. Happily did 90+ on a divided highway, though. It was an early winter day and we hit some black ice coming down a hill. Boy, did that big fat back end want to come around. Luckily I grew up in a wintry region and handled it, but with no margin to spare. This was when almost all of them had been replaced by van and truck type ambulances. Got to ride in a couple of others for two other outfits, and always appreciated the smooth ride.

I love the fact that they finally let the Ecto 1 be part of the action in Afterlife. Instead of just being a prop in some random shots, it actually participated in a chase scene.

I damn near cried seeing him get in. I couldn't imagine what it would be like to sit in it, let alone drive it. Thank you. I needed this.
