I hope Adam tries Malka Older's Infomocracy books; also, the space science fiction novellas set in Jupiter, starting with "The Mimicking of Known Successes"; they all have some of the elements he mentions enjoying in both the Murderbot and Locked Tomb series.

I don't know what to say about the profoundness of the heavens, but I do know that when I saw the northern lights, I also burst into tears because the beauty was too much for this meagre soul to endure. I've never seen an eclipse, sadly, but I think that I can relate. Thank you for all you do Adam, you're a true diamond in this world.
@Beljeth2 күн бұрын
I'm not sure what part of the world you're located in, but the next total eclipse will be visible from parts of Europe in 2026. If you have the ability to travel to see one, I highly encourage you to do so. It is an indescribable experience. Otherworldly. I saw the one in 2017 and it was profoundly moving.

Adam continues to be a reminder that it's not too late to be happy, to live life in the moment, to experience the joy of self expression and acceptance, and to share that love and positivity with others. It's not too late. Thank you.

I am in my seventies and retired from many different professions. I took up making because of tested. The act of creating and learning has kept my mind active, much as a result of Adam and the Tested team. my wife has told me that watching Tested is expensive. Tool purchases is my madness. As Adam finishes his year video thanking his followers I can only say thank you to him and the Tested Team. My life is enriched by your content

I started 2024 reading the entire Murderbot Diaries, including the short stories. They are magical and funny and poignant and beautiful. I love how Murderbot refers to itself as "it", because not only is it androgenous, it doesn't see itself as having a human defined gender at all. I'd also recommend A Psalm for the Wild Built and To Be Taught, If Fortunate, both by Becky Chambers. Beautiful and hopeful science fiction.

@michaelglinski38092 күн бұрын
That was a good choice. I thought about it (I only live about 1.5 hours away), but ended up going down to Dayton instead. Totality was a bit shorter, but seeing an eclipse at the USAF Museum wasn't something I could pass up.

I would love to get The Hyneman's take on being in the presence of a total eclipse. I feel like it'd be something like, "Whats the big deal? A large rock obscured the view of a ball of fiery gas & plasma for a few minutes, at exactly the predicted time."

YES! Adam Savage discovered MURDERBOT! It's such a fantastic series! It's written in a way that is thoughtful, introspective, and more action-packed than most blockbuster movies. The philosophical challenges posed to the audience in terms of defining humanity, gender, personhood, and the agency of sapient beings are just icing on an already wonderful sci-fi layer cake.

I absolutely loved night country. I watched it during surgery recovery and i had never watched a true detective show and it surprised me. I also lived in North Pole Alaska for awhile (traveled around Salcha as well) and did a job where I talked everyday with the people who lived there in their houses. And it took me straight back in both the good and the bad. I think its the best media I've seen that used and commented on cultural aspects of those who live there.

This was one of my favorite videos from TESTED this year, it takes me back to the feel and content I got from the Still Untitled podcast … which I still miss. Maybe you could bring more content like this to TESTED throughout 2025? I’ve consumed most of the Murderbot Diaries series this past summer, taking a few breaks to mix in some John Scalzi. I’ll have to look into the Locked Tomb series now as well. Happy New Year TESTED!!

Adam, I love your perspective. Humans tend to be arbitrary with time. In reality, all we have is the present moment. The past and future only live in our minds. Animals are lucky not to be burdened by concepts of the past/future. Your story about the eclipse is transpersonal. Yes!! 💜💙

I'm happy to see Furiosa getting some well-deserved love. I saw that in theaters the day it came out, and was kind of surprised when it flopped like it did. A very, very different movie from Fury Road, for sure. But the amount of worldbuilding it managed to pull off was kind of astounding. I'm hoping it finds a new life on streaming, because people deserve to see it. (Plus I've never seen Chris Hemsworth having this much fun in a movie.)

Re: Parasocial Relationships and terminology: When you start to recognize your fans and followers as more than just living vicariously through your experience, and you open your perspective to including the best of those supporters in your vision, you end up creating a community. The brothers Green refer to their community as Nerdfighteria and the people as Nerdfighters. What would you call your followers? Tested members seem to be a specific subsection - Patreons and the like... but for the general fan - "Test Subjects" maybe?

The audience plays just as, if not more significance, in media, cinema, and other artistic endeavors than the artist themself. It's like if there is no audience, referees, or scouting agents at a sporting event, it's a practice; not a game. I thought that was a good one to end on.
