The Expanse is stunning in every regard; the storylines, the acting, the visuals… To someone who usually hates TV it was really weird to be so enthralled and so hooked, right from the first episode. Fantastic show!

@ilovevegies2 One of the earliest, 'A Trip to the Moon' was around 1902 and moving pictures were invented around 1890. You can watch the whole film here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/rn25dJuIi8uNbZY I like to chuck music on in the background. Finding music to go along with silent films is highly enjoyable, try Queen, Smashing Pumpkins or Moondog... You might like to watch Die Nibelungen, Metropolis and The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari.

As Tim mentions at the end, nearly all practical effects have a "layer" of visual effects on top (keying, rig removal, etc.), so these days "special effects" tends to be used to describe that combination, whereas "visual effects" means 100% CGI and "practical effects" means 100% on-set.

For over forty years, I've done live theater. Mostly opera. Building things that actually work in real life seems to me to be the quintessence of "props". Watching people actually appreciate the artistry that goes into 3 seconds onstage or a fraction of a second in a film truly warms my heart. Thank you!

@wesselscreations5 жыл бұрын
It is almost all garbage. Goes right into a bin. Most specially built props and effects are owned by the show. So they go into storage if they were expensive, or a set sale at the end of a season, or the garbage bin. The industry is pretty wasteful, though there has been a shift in the last couple years. But when it comes down to it, it is almost always cheaper to throw something away, than store it.
