I believe Ibn Khaldun should be recognised as the "Father of Modern Social Thought". Because the Muqaddimah (meaning the "Opening" in Arabic) has pointed out many ideas that soon shape the modern world.

Ibn Khaldun in his book the opening "Al-Muqaddima" was aware he's producing something no one ever did before in both sociology and economics, he was a genius and he knew it.

He was an Andalusian who learned in Zeituna University in Tunis after all. Those people were in a perfect spot to be brilliant. Tunisia, supported by the new waves of Andalusian Muslim and Jewish refugees who were prosecuted in Iberia, was a safe heaven for sciences and education. Sad to see that Tunisians today didn't benefit from any of their own scientists productions, especially seeing the society's economical dynamics in that country today.

Great points and this is one of my curious discussions with many biased often eurocentric academics was about this question you posted in the end. The reality is that our psychology of this day of demonizing, rediculing and belittling arabs, muslims and non-europeans was there and is here at this moment and very apparent after 911. I can also say it was very stronger and worse in early days and most of the philosophers fell into it like, Locke and his view of the black africans etc. This is the same in the world of western academia now, but slitely subtle. Although luck of good translations of islamic philosophy in early 19th, 20s or 21st century was a part of the problem. But i can stress with confidene that the problem of not posing this question lies in our psychological realm of reality i e that we are dishonest, ethno-centrically motivated and rubbed almost all of it under the rug. However, thanks for your igniting and stimulating question? Peace!

@@sirlordhenrymortimer6620 this is a discussion about biased history not religion. While your IQ level is low to make such claim one which you have little to no knowledge of, it is Ironic how you fall in the same spectrum of your biased view of the world. Maybe consider other faiths like Christianity and how they eradicated native Americans in the name of Jesus and enslaved a full ethnicity along the way. Muslims will not take morality or criticism from westerns in Europe, a contenant the exterminated 6 million Jews. Don't talk about religion and especially Islam one you have no knowledge of as 90% of non Muslims are like but once they come to know and understand they end up embracing it.

This reminds me of the story of who invented the telephone. When the question is being asked many will say that Alexander Graham Bell is the inventor of the telephone. However Antonio Meucci invented the device a few months before, but he was only able to publish his invention in a local Italian newspaper, as he didn't speak any English

G Graham Lol nobody else brought up racism or bigotry but you, the commenter explained why it was published in a local Italian paper by saying he didnt know English, he lived in Italy so it makes sense for him not to speak it, lol billions of people don't know English. The only implication made was from you when you read his comment and immediately connected speaking english with it being some sort of universal advantage, interesting connection to make but ok.

Spot on mate. It's bias and hatred. Not just Arabs and Muslims though, also Carthaginians' civilization and history was stolen then destroyed by Rome. Anything that went against the Imperialist Romans who now lay the ground for Western civilization. The first important innovations of human civilizations from Agriculture to Trade and Warfare started in Carthage, which is also ironically Ibn Khaldun's country and birth place just under a different name and religion.

Interesting to see so many knowledgable people have been introduced to Ibn Khaldun's work. Just as matter of historical record, Khaldun was of Berber origin family. Like so many other scholars of Muslim world he too wrote in Arabic which was the lingua franca from Morocco & Spain to Persia & Afghanistan. That does not make him an Arab by ethnicity just as Naipaul was a West Indian and not an Englishman simply because he wrote in English. Just a comment!

The father of Human Rights is also not really the 'father', since he attended only Arabic classes during his time at Oxford. The concept of 'Rights' and human rights existed in the Islamic civilisation 1400 years ago, whereas they were introduced in the West not so long ago. Social sciences and natural sciences are different in the ways of research and proving hypothesises. Atom is a true entity, it can't be argued against and it's existence is provable. It is a thing that has a physical form. Whereas economic theory different. Economic theories evolve over time like other social sciences for example sociology, bcs humans aren't a lazy bunch, from a time perspective, humans do different things, they are dynamic, while atoms are static. Ibn khaldun is the father of modern capitalist economics, since he and smith hold similar arguments. Smith can be inspired by him, since scholars are inspired and inspiring one another

@Omar Aziz Newton's work made all these greats obsolete and Newton's work stand till this day. Ibn khaldun works doesn't hold much water

@Omar Aziz what a joke. Newton and liebnitz invented calculus , scientist, philosophers before him had no idea about its basic fundamentals . They only talked about the subjects in abstract non-scientific way. HG Wells wouldn't be called scientist just because he thought about time machine

@@sirlordhenrymortimer6620 Leibniz and Newton did not define calculus in a rigorous manner, Cauchy did (with limits). Does that mean that Newton did not help in defining calculus because of his use of "non-scientific ways"? Do you see the issue with your thinking?

@@REDDEADANDGTACLUB Newton derived the ideas of calculus from the "tangent thesis of Fermat" and Liegnitz popularise integral calculus due to its various engineering applications Just have a cursory glance of Newton and liebnitz contribution to calculus en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/History_of_calculus. And please, do point out my contradiction that I drew upon when I contrasted their contribution to calculus and ibn khaldun's to economy. Calculus in its archaic form was known since, the Egyptian times......we don't say the Egyptian mathematics ware the father of calculus .since, their forms and ideas are too archaic

The Indians would have only been able to spread their knowledge to Indo-China, Indonesia and maybe Persia. The Muslims transmitted their knowledge to the West, who then imposed it on the world (colonialism).

You have convinced me: I'm now a Muslim brother, I've stepped the 2nd floor and I'm an Erdogan lover and wish the return of the Khilafah (Osmanliyah of course, ISIS was just preparing the return of the Ottoman empire. I know that already) and I will support Qatar till the end of my life so the ruling family of Hammad takes the lead of the hajj until the next election :))). Allah showed me the truth once again through your video. Thank you !
