I'm only 13 minutes in and don't know much about mechanics... but after all them ages of Gran Turismo... Dirt 2.0 and such... as a "Bloke" in Florida... who's never seen this whip on the road. And probably never will. I feel I would be able to distinguish the real from a replica.

Hi Adam and Paul, another cracking video, Paul never ceases ro amaze, quick story guy's, I remember the very 1ST 500 I pdi'd I noticed the brackets on the rear suspension frame you pointed out, thought it had been "accidentally" left on in manufacturing and actually walked down the bodyshop to borrow the angle grinder, to chop em off. Then stood and looked at it, see it had been sort of tack welded so walked up the compound to look under another and found it the same so left it lol. Also, noted the battery tray trimmed off and already starting to rust so actually touched it up with a touch up stick. Sorry to be boring, you just reminded me lol. Alex.

Absolutely love your videos with Paul, his knowledge is legendary... However, the Gurney flap was invented by an American racer called Dan Gurney... Check out him and his imput into world motorsports, very interesting. Keep up the great work fella, love it👍

@@paullinfoot6017 completely agree, which is why i could listen to you all day, should do an evening with Paul Linfoot, definite sell out, incredibly interesting learning about one of the most iconic cars from the greatest era of motoring. that i remember as a kid growing up, and has inspired me to chase a dream as Im currently building a 97 Honda Accord super touring replica, just from pictures and old footage etc, and obviously a road car shell, without the factory race engine etc, still, has a fully built, H22a running itb's that ive built for it, so makes the correct noises! and should make around 300hp, which is what they ran, Will be just for track days and shows etc. The real stuff is quite abit out of my league!! Love all your work and thank you for sharing your time and knowledge with Adam and us.👍

Niiiiiiiiiiice and all as the cossies are, the wee dog is gorgeous, i wanna take it home. Sorry but the coach line’s that I put on when I worked at the main Ford dealership in Northern Ireland were put on using a chalk line and two people together to keep it nice and straight , not just one person trying to fit it. The guerny flap was originally designed for the mk2 Ford gt40, to increase down force, it was originally put on Dan Guerny’s Gt40 and I’m lead to believe that is the reason it is called the Guerny flap, as on The gt40 it was adjustable😁

Not true, it was first introduced by Gurney at the request of Bobby Unser on an open wheeled race car in the early 70s, as Unser had no confidence in the rear stability of the race car. Gurney himself had retired from racing at that point

@@jk3838 I beg to differ on that mate it may of been patented in the 70’s but it was first used on the gt40’s in the 60’s as the gt40’s needed more downforce and it was Dan guerny who suggested it and developed it but it was on the mk2 Gt40 in the late 60’s

​@@damiantaylor7993yes a very similar flap/spoiler is fitted to gt40s, which was before it was known as a Gurney flap. Its like a very large gurney flap. But since the 70s a Gurney flap has become to mean whad Dan Gurney had fitted to his car in early 70s. Like many of these ideas several people people have already thought of it but only one person makes it famous and they get the credit for it. There will be a load of other racing cars with a Gurney flap before the gt40 i bet but didn't really get noticed. The early 70s use of it got noticed because it was a break from common practice, whereas on the gt40 people just saw it as a small convenient little spoiler on the back of the car. So barely gave it a second thought. Like the mp4/1 is credited with the coke bottle and carbon chassis, but it wasn't the first of either, it was just the first people took notice of. Because the others before it didn't win anything.

The name Gurney flap comes from the racing driver Dan Gurney back in the day when development of the AC Daytona Cobra, if memory serves me correctly, originally it it was a crude slip of aluminium pop riveted to the back of the car in the hope it would give it some stability, it worked tremendously allowing the car with its sleek aero compared to a standard cobra to push more than 20mph more than anything else in its class down the moulsan straight at the lemans 24hr, and winning its class. I dont remember whether it was Gurney or the cars designer Peter Brock that came up with the flap, but gurney took one run in the car and endorsed it. If you follow some of the stories on carol shelby, peter brock and the likes the story of the flap is explained very well, and there’s some great documentaries, keep up the good video lads, i love watching these.

What a great video on the history of ford's, my neighbour back in the day bought a sapphire cosworth for £500 left in on the drive when he vacated the house and was then wrecked by local youth in a near by car park,( wish I had it moved onto my drive i must of only been 12 at the time )as you say in the video they were worthless back in the 90s early 2000s, great video again and Paul is such a legend 👍🏼
