The Bookworm is kind of my favourite Batman villain that was created for the '66 series. It's too bad that he only ever got the one story arc.

Roddy McDowall/Bookworm was yet another guest star/ villain that Adam West said was wonderful to work with. This is episode is surprisingly spooky. (I mean that in a good way.) I like how he was on the smarter side and kept Batman guessing. I also like how Chief O'Hara got to help Batman save Robin in this one. This is another episode where it was clear the bad guy would have won if he hadn't made such a careless mistake in the end.

One of the greatest mysteries of Batman was why the Bookworm never returned. I remember reading Roddy McDowell saying he enjoyed it, but not really knowing why they didn't call on him again. He was kind of a Gorshin-Riddler like villain, should have returned Season 2.

When you asked about the villains being thrown into the crate that was too small to hold all of them, I kept looking at the TARDIS on the shelf behind you. Maybe the box is bigger on the inside. ...........Or there could be a trapdoor under it. That works too.

The "Printer's Devil" thug was played by John Crawford, a veteran character actor who appeared in many, many movies and TV shows, including "ST: The Galileo Seven" as "Commissioner Ferris" and "LIS: Time Merchant" as "Dr. Chronos."

I remember Bookworm as a kid, around the time when I was learning how to read. I couldn't believe how fast he read with his hand. Today, I use Natural Reader.

I love Roddy McDowall as Bookworm. He was one actor from the original series that returned for the animated series of the Madhatter role. 🎬🎞

2:39 That is one amazing phone... it allows Commissioner Gordon to call Batman without being connected to a telephone line! (I do see that there's a wire going into the base, but that's probably to make it light up... the modular jack has no connection!) 10:58 And where, exactly, do the parachutes get dropped off? Can't be the Batcave! 13:43 No... hit a man with your fists.

I just learned somewhere else that Roddy McDowell did the voice for the Mad Hatter on an animated Batman show years later. I'm not really sure what this animated version of Batman was, but I never knew this about Roddy McDowell. Too bad he never returned to the TV series as the Bookworm.

Not just an animated series, but THE Animated Series!!! And yes, he was the Mad Hatter, and did a great job! The series was groundbreaking with everything from the look, the style, and even the music and cast! You really should check it out! Been constantly ranked one of the best shows of all time!

so Adam West as The Grey Ghost Ronnie McDowell as the Mad Hatter Kevin Conroy said that he wanted to make a Adam West Batman animated series then you have Mark Hamill as Joker that says meanwhile back at the ranch

I have to say I actually really like McDowell as the Bookworm. When he grabbed that huge book you actually believe that he is about to just murder her and then move on.

Agreed. He gave it all he had and did what he could with what he had to work with. I don't take anything away from him.

Your videos are hilarious and I hope you plan on doing all the episodes eventually. During the fight scene when Batman said never hit a man with glasses, it would've been funny to stick in the clip from Batman 1989 where joker asks batman you wouldn't hit a man with glasses would ya and then batman punches him!

I'm torn. Part of me wants to think Bookworm's people took over the TV van, and then ran previously shot footage (all nicely edited, with Bookworm, "Gordon", and the stock footage of a guy falling off a bridge). A different part of me wants to believe they just overrode the signal with pirate TV. I can't see any (non-paid off) director cutting to random people when the ceremony is underway. Gordon calling a GCPD officer "Monumentally Stupid" is funny. What's strange is that he's angry at getting the ticket, and didn't once question the legitimacy of it. Now, unless they can prove Bookworm hijacked the TV broadcast or planted the book bomb, I'm not seeing what they could arrest him and his gang for when they found the Bookmobile. I mean, is it illegal to project a still image? It's not like we hadn't seen the police do the same thing a few minutes earlier with the Bat-Signal (and why they did that instead of using the Batphone escapes me. Robin uses it a few seconds later). Is there a statute for impersonating a bookmobile? For the sake of argument, suppose they had an arrestable offense to charge him with, and they thought he was holed up in that bookmobile. Just activate that Bat-Ram, move the Batmobile up to the rear doors of the the vehicle so they can't open the door, and call for a paddy wagon. He can make the jokes that Bookworm's novel turned into a short story.

The Bookworm was my favorite villain. In fact I started watching your vids because of this villain (to reminisce hehe). When I was a kid, I thought he was a super-villain and the book light on his head was like a device that let him read faster lel. Seeing it now, it feels so dumb that Bookworm is just a freak speedreader. That said, I also mistook Bookworm for the BTAS Clock King. It's just the way he acts and dresses. I really dig pansy ass villains like that. It always cracks me up that anytime THe Bookworm talks and moves, his leather gets real squeaky XD Also, never noticed the parachute pickup service. Maybe some fans wrote in and asked wtf is up with those parachutes so they put it in to shut the fans up idk

No need to feel dumb. As kids we come up with our own explanations of things, and yours makes as much sense as any other.
