I sincerely appreciate this Kung Fu Cast Episode. Being a wing chun student (also a former JKD student and some other training) I love hearing this in depth interview. The Reverse Engineering vs Linear learning explanation topic reminded me of the stories of Bruce training with top martial artist and asking them how they did certain techniques (i.e; Asking Jhoon Rhee how he got the most power in his kicks or how Bruce would study Muhammad Ali fights in a mirror so he could study him in a right lead). Once again you helped open my mind to universally look at martial art with a pragmatic mind! Awesome Adam!

I love all of your material! After your Steve Smith Interviews (which are incredible and my favorite) this interview was one of the absolute best things I have ever found. Thank you!

Careful form study is also really good for preventing injury, both in training and in daily life. As I always say, the sneakiest and most patient opponents you will ever face are gravity and time. They always win in the end...but it doesn't have to be a blowout. ;~) We can increase the longevity of our vitality and ability to experience pleasure as well as our ability to work effectively by learning the most efficient and effective ways to move, stand, and breathe. It's virtually impossible to study something in detail when it's in fast motion. You have to take cars off the road to work on them. So careful form study has many benefits over time, that include but aren't limited to martial application. I know you are well aware of this Adam but I just felt like throwing it out there. Be well man. Great video. Looking forward to Part 2. GB

Very good point Gene , health comes first

@@adamchankungfu It's hard to fight without it. Sometimes when people disparage forms or seem to give slight lip service to doing martial arts for "health", I say, Well, do you want to fight sick? Do you want to fight injured? Health may not be directly "martial" but it sure supports it.

The 2 are not separate . no serious Martial Artists neglects health - every pro fighter after top performance is on a very very strict diet, does rehab exercises, stretches, gets messages, meditation, cold showers, active recovery days with swimming, yoga, tai chi etc - this is 99.9% of current professional fighters. Only hobbiest MA can afford to neglect and laugh at health practices.

Adam, at 15:28 you are talking about the "five universal things" or approaches. What are they?

Interesting talk, wanted to chime in. Adam, mirror neuron activation as you describe it is positively correlated with expertise. Meaning that you (an expert) are more likely to learn by watching than a novice. The fMRI studies for this were actually done with capeoira players and ballet dancers. This page has a nice summary: lions-talk-science.org/2014/02/04/making-mirrors-our-brains-reaction-to-familiar-movements/.

Very interesting - at least what I understand! Would it be possible to insert English subtitles here? Adam is sometimes very difficult to understand (sometimes also in his other videos….) :)

Would be awesome if you got on the joe rogan podcast but he’d never have you on the show. To real for him lol

No I hope not; Joe Rogan has a known history for trying to pretend like he knows martial arts but really doesn't. He falls under the atypical category of the guys outside of Kungfu we typically seeing talking about kungfu will little knowledge or commitment to it. He did say he dabbled in it, but he never committed and even touched upon a small percent of what Adam goes over in his videos. He's also kind of a douche, think he'd disrespect Adam more if anything.

Basically nailing it down he’s saying If a guy outweighs you there’s nothing you can do regardless of your skill level. Weight classes are irrelevant in a real fight correct?

Size do matter. Big guy will beat a guy with skill . But if the gap is too big then ALOT of skill can also beat size ie Bruce beat Ed hart, Bruce was 130 lbs , Ed was 230 lbs PROFESSIONAL Boxer.... Bruce at 130 lbs also beat Jesse GLover who was over 220 Judo CHAMPION... I know this is true because Ed and Jesse told me this in person when i train with them
