Good stuff as always Adam. Putting the clutch nut on hadn't occurred to me, but I like that (when pushing the sleeve out). I'd always put a screw in the end of the crank.

Hi, Adam! Great video! Thanks a lot! I know that its critical to keap your piston edges sharp, trying not to touch them while maintaining. Can a zip tie damage piston edges, especially when you're applying a lot of pressure to crankshaft for removing the sleeve?

No, it shouldn't cause any problems unless it's some type of super rigid zip tie. :)

Thanks for the great vid Adam. I too have the AD edition engine and it idles smooth as silk and packs a punch when needed. Also gotta love those 10 minute + run times. How often would you suggest to tear the engine down to take a look at things in-depth? Do you read your glow plugs as a tuning reference to see how things are going? If so could you make a video about that? If not please explain why it may not matter to you.
@AdamDrake5 жыл бұрын
Thank you! Glad to hear you're happy with the B21AD engines. If everything is running well and there aren't any issues, there's really no need to tear down the engine. I only do it if I feel something needs to be serviced or replaced. I don't have a video on reading glow plugs as a tuning reference, but that's a great idea and I'll add it to my video list. Thanks!

@paulrodman26283 жыл бұрын
@@AdamDrake why do you feel this way? And how easily should a sleeve come out of the case? I have a P5 that seemed impossible to get the sleeve out of. Sometimes due to my experience I worry about the amount of force that I'm applying to certain parts, and get stuck. Then learn it's ok to apply more force than I thought to get something out, like a sleeve from a used motor. Wouldn't polishing parts make breakdowns easier, or is it just window dressing? This is Adams first time can you not tell by the engines name.
@oneRCde5 жыл бұрын
Your video is good, but there is one point you're wrong. A reverse mounted piston will not run because the crank will hit the piston. The problem will not be caused by the backplate it's rather the crank that will crush the piston. There is no engine a reverse mounted piston can run, even not with a short stroke engine. And it would be good to tell that the screws are always tightened crosswise. The max torque for M2 is about 0,5Nm and M3 is about 1,5Nm with 10.9 screws, therefore I would never use a powertool...

Thanks for the feedback, but I've seen a few people run OS engines with the piston in backwards. They run, but very bad. Haha
@oneRCde5 жыл бұрын
@@AdamDrake I remember the Novarossi short stroke engines (SBK) didn't have the cut out at the backplate. but this engines are 20years old now. if no cutout at the backplate a reverse is possible, I agree.
@AdamDrake5 жыл бұрын
Sounds good. Not sure about the Nova engines, but I saw a guy run two OS engines a few weeks ago with the piston in backwards. I had him turn them around and they ran great. It was pretty crazy. Haha
@EDCandLace4 жыл бұрын
You sir are incorrect. There are engines that will run with a backwards mounted piston... I agree in most engines the piston skirt will strike the crank stopping it from turing over. ALL engines is not correct.. I have discovered this when helping a friend with a engine that just wasn't tunable... After about half a tank i told him bring it to the bench and we pulled it part only to find the piston was backwards... Never seen it before and flipped it around and needles to first start location and with in two laps had it ripping. After that time i have seen it a few more times.

Warming up the crankcase with a hairdryer allows it to expand and easy installation of bearings rather than forcing a bearing into a tight hole eliminates any material being shaved off inside the bearing seat is better technique in my opinion!

Awesome video. Do you ever clean the top of the piston off? Or remove any of the buildup on the sides of the sleeve
@AdamDrake5 жыл бұрын
With Flash Point fuel you don't need to do this because it's a full synthetic based fuel and burns super clean. It's not a bad idea if your running a castor based fuel and have a lot of build up, but that build up is also helping to create a seal at top dead center.

Hello Adam, Thanks for another informative vid! Quick question - is the orientation of the clips which secure the pin inside the piston important? Usually the "end" of the clip faces up from factory - does it make any difference? Do you have any tips on how to remove/install them? :)

If you have a neat bearing puller like that, it sure is simple..without a bearing puller its a pain in the a$$ and you risk damaging the case and/ or the new bearings putting them back in. Dont ask me how I know . . . Dont even attempt till you have a bearing puller. And they arent inexpensive at $100 just for the tool. Big reason why I run electric nowdays besides the other benefits of instant torque, insane motor lifespan, clean and vibration free. Nitro has seen its day, but it has definitely been eclipsed.

It really depends on the conditions your running in and how hard you've been running the engine. In most cases, there's not much to checkout. If you see fuel from around or near the front bearing, it needs a new front bearing. If it's making additional noise, it needs a rear bearing. I also offer a service to look over and check the bearings, compression, o-rings, ect. adamdrake117@gmail.com
