@@peteriley9272 Good points! Those of us who love this kind of content crave our backstories! When that information isn't forthcoming we feel shortchanged. Great visuals in this video, but this property is enigmatic in that it doesn't really seem to fit the criteria for being "abandoned". I hope Adam didn't present an invitation to potential looters... there's so much valuable furniture still in it!

This reminds me of a place I lived as a child/teen. My parents rented it off a local farmer. The furniture was similar and included as part of the rental. We had a working well too! The little doors would usually lead to the eves where my parents stored bits n bobs. There was a step up to my bedroom and a low beam over my bed (which I constantly hit my head on) We had 2 beautiful inglenooks both used! 4 years ago I took my son back to my childhood home and while parked on the lane a gentleman came out to ask why we were there? So I told him "this was my home" He was the farmers son! He remembered my family's name and asked if we would like to come back inside...no lie! It was incredibly emotional. Much of the furniture was still in there!

I see this kind of abandonment of old homes here too. Often people living in them as they fall down around them. I don't think this has been abandoned for that long though because there looks to be a modern oil diffuser on the windowsill by the crystal decanter and one as you go up the stairs. Unless very tidy squatters have been there. Thank you for exploring this incredible place.

Many of these properties featured by explorers were owned by someone who died having not made a will, and with no obvious heirs to inherit it. If you've ever seen the programme 'Heir Hunters', you will know that in such cases, specialist firms can try and hunt down more distant relatives but they aren't always successful. If everything leads to a dead end, eventually the property, possessions and any cash / savings passes to the crown but there is a period of several years that has to pass before that happens, in case anyone does come forward. During that period of time, it's all basically in limbo.

Agreed. The person cleaning needs to pay attention to the white mold on the furniture. The low door sills are interesting and I’m very impressed with the sinks in the bedrooms! That says a lot about the cleanliness of the inhabitants!

I somehow missed this until now. The reason the doors are so low is that people were simply shorter back then. They didn't have the nutrition we do today. My grandfather, who was born in the 1870's, was just over 6 feet tall and he was considered to be very tall. If you looked back to the 1500's a man of say 5'6" would be rather tall. It's sad that the outside has deteriorated so much as the inside seems to be restored beautifully. Once that roof starts to leak, the whole place will fall. So beautiful and probably tied up in an estate 'til it falls down.

In Tudor times, doorways were often times very low. This was done to keep the heat from escaping the room to quickly. And the average height in the 1500's was 5'8".

Omg the furniture is absolutely stunning. I would love to have just the furniture. I'm surprised the place hasn't been vandalized by drug addicts who need money to support their drug addiction. I hope someone is taking care of the place. If I was a millionaire I would buy that place and restore it. It's gorgeous. People were a lot shorter back in the time that house was built. I think it was the lack of nutrition. My mom was only 5 foot 2 inches. She was English my dad was 6 foot Norwegian that emigrated to the US when he was a child with his family. I grew up in Manchester until I was 14 and came to the US with my mom and brothers in the 70s. I went back to England with my daughter in the 90s , stayed 3 years but missed my mom and brother and my son who didn't want to come to England so he lived with my mom and took care of her. I do miss England but it's changed so much.

8:23, the jawbone of a horse, not a human. :) The Tudor Rose all through the house, What a beautiful place, I don't even care that the doorways are so short, I'd take it in a minute! This is a museum. It's a fact that people were shorter then due to the quality and quantity of food, but even with that in mind the doorways are shorter than normal. It would cost a fortune just for upkeep, but what a house! I loved this one!! Thank you!!

Hi Adam, this house looks like it was either three or four cottages made into one, hence the different heights of rooms, floors and doors. The fire places have had asthetic licence and the carvings above the windows don't look original. It almost looks Americanised, and I say this because I worked for an American millionaire who had a similar cottage and he did a similar thing with stained glass and ' extra' wooden doors, beams and lintels etc. The original flooring would be flagstones. Upstairs was the main give away to three or four houses into one. The stairs would not be open like they are and there are places where the other staircases have been removed showing different levels in flooring. There are many original features which would suggest it's a listed building or in a conservation area. I used to live in an old thatched cottage that was original three, the three would consist of one room downstairs and one upstairs in the eves. The staircase in my cottage was very steep with narrow treads. The leaded windows were still there ( like the one you've just shown us). The walks of my cottage were four foot thick with window seats and shutters. Your find was interesting but it does seem too clean to have been abandoned for so long. I wonder if the owners haven't been there due to covid restrictions. When a thatched cottage has been left empty for just a few months, it does get cold and damp hence the white mold on the furniture. If the owners live abroad then their own restrictions for that country coupled with ours would make it difficult for them to visit over the last 18 months. Alot can happen to a house in 18 months. See you on the next explore.

i add that they didn't have kilned bricks or SCREWS in the 15th century and there is no way any contractor could insert (even remotely successfully) electrical wires etc into 15th century walls (even in early 20th century electrical wires encased in conduit are installed on wall surfaces), or for that matter such nicely painted drywall, i think you're right, it's a replica that a very wealthy person created because there are a lot of antiques installed! some parts may be original to the first build, dunno, didn't watch beyond the screwed in lintels, but dangggggg lmbo okey dokey to them! oh ya and i don't believe they had chicken wire back then either (thatching)
