I remember me and my brother sitting down and watching it's first few days, there was Sunset Beach, and I think Family Affair and Hercules. I think we just went out and played tennis as it was hot at the time

Those pink petals in a square reminds me of the album cover of Glean. And interesting note, if you lived in the Tyne Tees region from 2 September 1996 to 3 October 1997, all of your channels had logos with numerals in them.

Now, I've never really enjoyed Channel 5, finding it dull & middle-of-the-road, but these idents are pretty neat! They kind of smack of wasted potential, to be honest, & seem to serve as a glimpse of the channel that 5 could have been.

Channel 5's initial image, for me, felt cheap, garish, pirate broadcasting. It's only retrospectively that I look at these idents and think that they were quite good. They made the station stand out too much, when really I think it needed to try and blend in. Because the content was extremely weak, so the last thing they needed was for you to overtly recognise Channel 5 when watching The Bold And The Beautiful, Jack Docherty, Family Affairs. They would have benefited from you NOT noticing the channel. If you liked something, you'd know where to find it. I think Channel 5 has never fully shaken off the image of the newbie. The first time it began to feel like a serious player was around 2011 when it had a massive rebrand and acquired Big Brother. That was one of the strongest imaged the channel has ever had, then they quickly abandoned it in favour of those awful logo-less idents we have now.

i agree the logo-less idents are boring...these seem far more interesting and more modern than the idents of today...channel 5's best idents were the ones they used briefly in 2002 with a very neat jingle.

Channel 5 is absolutely crap I did used to like their shoes whittle and 100%
