ITV initial launch broadcast Sep 22 1955

The first broadcast of ITV, via Associated Radiodiffusion in London, September 22 1955. The company was originally a partnership between British Electric Traction (BET) and its subsidiary Broadcast Relay Services (trading as Rediffusion Limited) and Associated Newspapers, owners of the Daily Mail.

Totally agree. Killed off by Carlton and Granada. It goes to show regional TV franchises do have their benefits and should be brought back.

"There shall be an authority" the act of Parliament said, plus the idea of a new Elizabethan enterprise. How very 50's. Still a nice nod to the BBC also. Itv 60 odd years on is pretty dire, the ethos of the old regional stations and the connections to the areas and people they served long gone.
