The quality of the NQ songs this year is just something else. Might be my favorite batch of NQs ever.

It’s crazy to me that last year Belgium was being called a non qualifier and ended up top 10 and the very next year Mustii was a contender to win and ended up not even being a borderline qualifier
@thesnesgeek7 ай бұрын
The live performance sucked, bland and boring. The music video kicked ass.
@saskiamckenna29257 ай бұрын
@@thesnesgeek it's such a shame the live fell flat, I was really hoping that Mustii's experience in the drag community would beat the bad belgian staging allegations but I guess not

I’m also a lover of the Azerbaijan song, that and TiTAN are my top two here! But as for the song you heard FAHREE perform at Eurovision, it’s a folk song called Bəri Bax and of course you can’t exactly enter with a cover, but you CAN watch their studio version on the Eurovision KZbin so definitely give that a watch!

The funny thing is that for a while Iceland was one of the favorites to win the contest. Before the artists and even the song were reveled by RÚV (Iceland's public broadcaster) the national final was still not held. I think Iceland at one point was 3rd in the bookmakers' odds, because heading into the national final it was believed that Bashar Murad (a Palestenian singer and songwriter) was going to win the Söngvakeppnin 2024 and given that Iceland was one of the most outspoken nations against the participation of Israel, it could be assumed that by having a Palestinian representative Iceland will counter Israel and Eden Golan. Murad's song - Wild West, got more votes in both the jury vote and public vote in the first round of the final (to filter out the finalists from 5 to just 2) and 4 of the 7 jurors gave him the highest score. But when it came to the final round Hera won 69:50 which allowed he to win overall by less than 3000 votes. After Murad was NOT Iceland's choice (rumours swirled that Israel might have been involved) Iceland's stock tanked hard.

As a Dane I will say don't be suprised about not seing any eurovision-themed events while staying in Copenhagen - Eurovision is NOT a popular "thing" here and is not supported by the national music industry either which is why our national competition is bland and forgetable. Not even our participating broadcasting station (DR) gives a shit promoting it. I remember a few years ago Wiwibloggs posted a video with Deban walking around in Copenhagen showing people an image of Emelie de Forest - none of the locals he met knew who she was which says a lot.

And with denmark failing to qualify for the fourth time in a row, you’re now the only currently active country that hasn’t qualified in the 2020s. I really hope you can turn things around in the future.
@poertjt27 ай бұрын
@@harrietamidala1691 It's completely fair for us not to qualify with the bland songs we've send the past years. I honestly don't have faith in DR anymore who seem to already clinging on to old habits regarding the show next year - in my opinion they should completely skip the DMGP-format and maybe even chose internally and get international songswriters onboard.

I made a playlist with my 2 favourites from each country throughout history (1 more upbeat and 1 more slow song) and I ended up choosing both of Azerbaijan and Australias entries this year for this list. Just love that both countries brought something that was uniquely national for their country. Both Australia and Azerbaijan have been pretty generic (despite often catchy and powerful) in Eurovision so far, so I am gutted that they didnt qualify this year.... i would have swapped Luxembourg, Israel and Latvia as well, as well as Finland, with with Azerbaijan, Australia, Czech Republic and San Marino (their staging was absolutely amazing).

My ranking of the losers (my opinion): 11th: Iceland, nice song, but sounded too much like something I would hear on the radio and compared to the rest of the competition, not very memoriable or stood out 10th: Azerbaijan, the vocals were excellent, but everything else was just "meh" to me 9th: Albania, why did they have to remake it? They just turned it into something generic and forgettable 8th: Moldova, another "meh" song, Barbu tried though. 7th: Malta, another "meh" song, but with dancing, which does bump it up on entertainment value 6th: Czechia, I liked the song, it was okay, wish it did better though. 5th: Poland, the song was okay, the chess theming was good, but I got nothing else much to say. 4th: Belgium, great song, ruined by some baffling staging. 3rd: Denmark, a great song I felt should have done better, but the staging felt lackluster. 2nd: Australia, I adore this song, I wish it could have made it further. 1st: San Marino, I just love the whole package, the song, the pink/black goth staging, it was fun. Another song I wished made it further.

Czechia should had definately advances to the grand final instead of austria, Austria had weak lyrics, weak vocals and mediocre staging. Czechia had good and meaningful lyrics, good vocals and one of the best stagings in the competition. Australia should had also advanced in my opinion. They only missed out by 5-6 points unfortunately.

Interesting video. I mostly don’t agree with your rankings, but I appreciate and understand your explanation for your choices. I always have songs that NQ, but this year there were six! The only song I’m upset didn’t make it was Czechia, because that is a banger! That could easily be a hit on the Alternative Rock charts in the U.S. I also like the studio version of the songs from Belgium, Moldova, Poland, Azerbaijan and San Marino, but the live performances and/or staging ruined their chances.

Huge turnoffs for me are - undressed performers (Malta, San Marino) - bad vocal performances (Poland, Denmark, Belgium) - bland songs (Iceland, Malta, Albania, Moldova) If an entry checks multiple or all points then it is out...

I can not agree at all with Malta. That Semi was really incredibly weak. It started off great with Loop - it isn't reinventing the Wheel - but is a solid Dance Track with a really confident Delivery on Stage and good Vocals - it really only went downhill from there.
