It was a Cable/Satellite station, called originally The Nashville Network, which years later became The National Network, and lastly just TNN, when they gave up and started airing over-compressed digital files of Starsky and Hutch. Opryland and Christianity originally. I guess Country wasn't quite cool enough. Kyle Petty played his guitar for the nation one night and future star Myley Cyrus made her debut as a toddler on the Crook and Chase talk show, if I'm not mistaken. At her fathers urging, she walked out encouraging the crowd to clap. Showbiz from day one, ain't she sumpin'? And now, in closing, fun fact, back to the swamp buggies and Steve Evans. Jumping in the 'sippy hole with the Trophy Queen in your arms was first prize. 'twas muddy, to say the least. Florida! (Not that I'm bragging, but I once watched Larry Nuber smoke a cigarette during a rain delay at a Cayuge Speedway ASA show once. I would have liked to have met Steve Evans but I think, at the time, he was trying to quit...)

You say that, until one of the buggies flip over, and all us fans jump the fence to try and save the person. They can't always make it to the emergency air tank. Most of the people racing are local, and our friends. Last thing we want is someone to die. It's dangerous, and all these buggies are built in the backyards of all the locals.

👍Brought back memories. The Jeeps give a great perspective of the track conditions. But in the unlimited you can see there is a definite advantage to getting the holeshot after that there's never enough Rain-X to keep your visor free of water. Never swamp raced. But I did do many years on the mud bog circuit in the early and mid 80s, where it was more mud than water. The key to winning my class almost every time was using a unique vehicle. With a heavily modified 22R in a stripped 1976 Toyota Hilux two wheel drive lifted 14 in with a front straight axle and 36 inch paddles. And a empty weight of just 1300 lbs. 🤠🐂🏞️🛩️
