An unintended pun… but yes, it works! So I’ll take credit for it 😁

My favourite is Silver and Gold. I love how much they are able to do with so little!

Hadn't come across your channel before until this video popped up in my BGG notifications due to the My City tag - which I really enjoyed playing through last year - and this was a excellent introduction to it! Informative, detailed and a pleasure to watch. Looking forward to checking out more of your videos!

Maybe I missed it but the grandest polyomino game might be A Feast for Odin
@AdaminWales3 жыл бұрын
Thanks Billy. It got a very brief mention in the video - but I haven’t played it - and it was too expensive (and hard to get hold of) to pick up a copy just for this video! I’m sure it’s amazing though. From my understanding of the rules, it doesn’t do anything with the polyominoes which isn’t covered by my categories here though (placement restrictions, cover icons, penalties for not covering icons etc).

Favelas is another hex-domino tile stacking game with a much tighter play space than Cuzco. The board is designed to always result in one awkward empty space. I'd like to see more non-contiguous polyominoes. For example, a "diagonal" polyomino where the squares only touch at the corners. Cartographers does a bit of this and I imagine such a game would have to be roll&write to work. Perhaps using individual cubes like Tiny Towns?

Nice idea Daniel. Yes, I like those “gappy” shapes in Cartographers.

@@AdaminWales Battle of LITS with random boards online at BGA provides an amazing polyomino experience. You've tried it?

@@diamondmeeple No. I hadn’t heard of that one. I’ve looked it up. I like the core concept.

@@AdaminWales You should try it a boardgamearena with random boards. It is superb and among my top 3 favourite polyomino games. A friend of mine has made Polyssimo Challenge, it is also pretty nice. I am great fan of Blokus Duo, two matches with alternate start with no bonuses, lowest total surplus squares win.

Next year "modular polyominoes" will be a thing :) Watch out for a new "shaky" game release from AEG ;) Thank you for the overview of the genre, Adam. Your videos are excellent!
