Make your own ghee: put a pound of butter into a saucepan, bring to a simmer, allow to simmer until all the water has evaporated, allow the milk fats to settle on the bottom, pore into a clean jar, it will stay fresh for 6 months or more.

Hey mate. My grandmother is Indian and cooks healthy and cheap Indian food for us on Sundays. We're a "whitewashed" bunch so we don't know how she did it. Recently, she hand wrote every recipe in a book which is great. I've never had healthy cheap and tasty Indian food like hers.usually it's in restaurants and oily. You've already got that spice tin which pretty much makes you Indian already lol. Any chance you want me to send the book over? It's really just pages that I've scanned as we've not turned it into a book. There's some insane meals in there that have pretty much been lost to time. These super authentic dishes don't get documented usually. Tbh you're already making insanely good food. Never seen a non - Indian do such a job of it but hey, offer still stands
@Adam_Garratt2 жыл бұрын
Mate I would be absolutely honoured to cook some of your grandmother's recipes, thank you so much! My great grandmother did the same thing, and I really need to do the same and scan it as the book is disintegrating.
@HotdogSosage2 жыл бұрын
@@Adam_Garratt awesome - I'll send it over (assuming you have a email on your "about" page lol, I'll find out after I send this email). I'm actually thinking of paying somebody to turn the pages into a REAL book with a full digital copy. I can find out and get a quote for both of us if you'd like. Down to you - I don't suppose you live anywhere neat nottingham/derby/brum but if you do, I can take the book and scan it etc but maybe that is a bit wild a suggestion lol. Either way, I'll email you soon

@@HotdogSosage Hi Haedos, That sounds amazing! I know it's probably too much to ask (sorry for being so brazen!) but is there any chance i could get you to email it to me too. I love India and Indian cooking and could do with some authentic recipes. Be happy to help you sort it out into a book too - the least I could do. Cheers.

I first discovered lamb keema karahi many years ago...have been making a version usually with beef or freshly minced lamb from the Asian shop (he minces an onion with it as well). Your recipe is more or less the same as I make mine, good job mate, a nice low cost meal.

I have cooked this many times, you are so right about it being not only delicious, but cheap as chips if you can pick up the mince at a reduced price. It's what I wait for then freeze down. As a matter of fact you have just inspired me to make this on Sunday as I was wondering what to cook.

While I have never heard of this particular kind of curry, it looks yummy, and I will give it a go. Hearing you list the prices of the food that you are using, I am a bit envious. I live in Canada, and while our money is different, all being relative, that tin of peas, and especially the ground beef were very good deals!

Good one! Lovely straightforward take on this. I suggest trying a variation with lentils to bulk it out as a dhansak. That and rice would probably feed 'many' and lower the cost per helping. It has to be said that, barring fresh coriander, once you have the spices BIR style cooking with rice is really low cost per serving, and doesn't need massive freezer space if you have the time to make the onion base as you go. Rice and lentils are so cheap and filling.

i would also say that a decent mild madras curry powder is absolutely essential as a base to almost every curry. A 400g bag is only £2.50 here in durham city. It makes currys and epic marinades and sandwich fillers. Mix curry powder, cinammon, applesauce, mayo and sultanas for a coronation dressing with some chopped chicken or a can of chickpeas. Great of a jacket potato or sandwich. Mix plain yoghurt with curry powder, garlic powder, lemon juice and sweetner for a basic tikka marinade, perfect to marinade some chicken thigh fillets for the bbq or just to bake in the oven.

What do think about air fryers. Just another gadget. Your curry looks yummy.❤
@Adam_Garratt Жыл бұрын
They can be very useful, but I don't understand why they are called air fryers (probably marketing). They are essentially mini convection ovens. Brilliant if you want to save energy if only cooking one or two things just for yourself, and doesn't need a huge oven. And I've found that for me, when I make a Sunday roast, and only having one shelf in my oven, it's a useful addition. It really depends on your circumstances.
