This is a fantastic overview of the current state of home key locks! I've had my U100 for almost a year now and I've only changed the batteries once. Just got the U300 and am excited to get it installed and. Home key really is one of those magical features that really makes life easier.

It would be very interesting to see an audit from someone like the lock picking lawyer for all them before recommendations are given.

don't think there is a single smart lock on the market that would pass his lock picking test(s)

All I can say is don’t buy the Level lock. Pure grade A garbage. Bought the Schlage Encode plus and it’s been the great. Battery life is also great, unlike the Level Lock which lasted all of 3 weeks before needing a new battery. Also took them forever to deliver on their thread update. I got my Schlage in July and batteries are still at 75% with 5 people going in and out.

@@AdamsTechLifeI would have to agree with the Level Lock being garbage. Their keypads don’t have a maximum amount of times you can insert a correct code and their actual key slot doesn’t have any security pins. Having no security pins means that the lock is a false sense of security, as even a $15 lock from Home Depot has them, making it substantially harder to pick. I have picked locks before, and not having a security pin in that expensive of a lock is disappointing.

Whats a good smart lock for gates? One-way lock such that people cant unlock by putting their hand through the fence?
@AdamsTechLife17 күн бұрын
none that support HomeKit that i know of. how do stop a hand from going through a gate might be the better question
@TransitAndTeslas15 күн бұрын
Ubiquiti UniFi Access with touch pass support. You’ll have to go enterprise for gates :(.

I swapped in a zwave module for the yale assure lock 2 and battery life is dramatically better.

What lock can I use for automations to lock at a specific time?
@AdamsTechLife7 күн бұрын
all of them can do that in the home app with an apple home hub

I have both the Schlage and the Yale in my house, only because the Schlage was too wide to fit on my other door. The Schlage is 10x better!! The Yale Assure 2 Plus always glitches, notifications are sometimes very delayed, batteries die quick and sometimes doesn't unlock with homekey! Very frustrating! The Schlage has been very reliable for me!

Thanks for sharing your experience with both locks! Schlage is great for sure!

Schlage, period. Homekey isn’t worth a damn if the actual lock and mechanism are garbage and not solid.
