I have a similar setup where NFC tags add reminders for my laundry and dishwasher. Also just started using them with the “When did I…?” app to track infrequent chores such as taking out recycling or cleaning the grill. Eventually I hope to maintain an inventory of my pantry with tags to handle usage and restocking

Edit: Based on this thread, I've confirmed that a key difference is an NFC tag can only be used by specific people (so it's "protected" in a way) whereas a button can be pressed by anyone. So a tag is more secure but less flexible whereas a button is less secure but more convenient. Original post: Wouldn't one of the key differences between a tag and button be that the tag is set to specific people/devices, so the user is essentially "authenticated", whereas a button is able to be pressed by anyone? The former is safer but more restrictive whereas the latter is more convenient but less protected. Or at least I have to assume the tag users are set up/specific to the tag, since you're putting a lock's code right next to the lock itself. If anyone can just walk up with a phone to use the tag, that doesn't really make that use case very useful. Or am I missing something there?
@timothysteenwyk29788 ай бұрын
You have it right. With this setup, the tag is only used to trigger a shortcut. If you don’t have a shortcut configured, the tag will not do anything
@AdamsTechLife8 ай бұрын
This is true. This was a pretty high level comparison of buttons and tags but yes you are correct, this is also a difference. nfc tags require a phone and a shortcut setup to run whereas a button can be used by anybody without a phone in hand

@@AdamsTechLife okay, that makes sense, appreciate the response. I'll argue that "a tag is an authenticated experience and a button is not" is probably one of the most important big-picture differences. Maybe that's just me. 🙃

get any nfc tag and use the app "nfc tools" and program the tag with the wifi details :)

Thanks for responding. I tried and it didn’t work. The entire pack of tags. After I programmed it, the phone couldn’t read it . Would really appreciate a step by step guide if you have the time. Thanks again.

The one about ignoring motion alerts, cant we just enable the motion alerts only when not at home in the camera settings on home app directly? Why to scan nfc tag and do it manually?
@AdamsTechLife8 ай бұрын
i want to receive alerts wether i'm home or not (ie alerts while inside and away, but not while outside...especially helpful if chilling outside on a porch)

Hi!! I have a question: Is there a way to use an NFC tag to play a movie on apple tv? I found it justo to play music using shortcuts, not movies :/ Thanks!

Not really, no. It can open an app on the apple tv, but not specific shows or movies.

QR codes may be more convenient for this task since modern iOS/Android phones allow to join/share a wifi using a QR code which embeds not only the code but also the SSID.
