I've had these for like 12 years. The first model, which has two extra dip switches on the back for extra room and sound control. My friend had the HS8's at the same time and I remember he told me he thought the 5's sounded better. I was just poor and didn't have enough to get the 8's. Glad though, because I hate 8" speakers now they are just too bulky and huge. I'm thinking about upgrading the HS7s though but I'm not sure it would be worth it. I run these with a sub anyway.

THIS was exactly what I needed, Adam: salient details only and all the connectivity bits and bobs. I am looking at a classical guitar recording rig at home with some MIDI connectivity. I'm getting a Focusrite 4i4, a pair of matched RODE NT5s, a Xvive U8, for recording high-end classicals. Thanks man. Sub'd.

@adamtalkstech thanks for your feedback. I was looking at the HS3 and HS4... I settled on the 5s. These are loud and rich cedar and spruce top guitars, often detuned for concert repertoire. Good man. Shalom!

If these are anywhere near as good as the HS8's then they will be excellent for the price. I used HS8s for years before upgrading and loved them.

I went to buy the 7' (HS7). The seller got me listening to the HS5, HS7 and some 10x more expensive Focale) The Focale were to hard in the high frequencies, and the HS7 were too smooth belod 700Hz, whereas the HS5 were perfect for me up to 100Hz (missing bass powwer below). So I bought the HS5, and if I move in a place where I can turn the sound louder, I will add the HS8S + a 90Hz Xover frequency. I use mainly them on my computer to enjoy music as their sound is exactly what I'm found of. I see not speakers coming close in terms Quality/Price ratio. Just pure candy for my ears. (PS they do particularly well to reproduce the crispness of a Falcon 9 rocket engine. )

Why does no one talk about how trash these speakers are. I bought them because of all the great reviews online and on KZbin. Got them in my bedroom studio and they’re absolute garbage. They’re tinny sounding and have ZERO low end. I went in to a guitar center to see if mine were just a bad batch. They had them in a testing room next to 20 others from different brands and the HS5 are the worst. I wouldn’t use these for any genre of music. Spend a couple hundred more and get something worth your money and worth using.

Sorry you think that. I definitely prefer my Adam Audio T8Vs to these, but I have matched these up against other speakers and the HS5s always have a tight and clean sound to them. That being said I haven’t tested other 5” monitors against these, only 8”. Also a lot of speakers like this are popular for a reason, these really are the standard by which all other 5” monitors are measured.
