Sorry about the slightly worse video quality on this guide. This is the first time I have worked with someone else to make a guide and there was a lot of fine-tuning and learning. Future guides, even co-op ones, will have the video quality that you've seen in the past. Having said that, I don't think the video quality is terrible, and you can still get all the applicable information out of this. I'm looking forward to making a ton more guides this year ranging from more simple things to more number-heavy things. Let me know what you'd like to see a RimWorld guide on in your own comment below (I get notifications on new comments but not replies for some reason). And, as always, thanks for watching!

Like a gold meteor drops and I am not even exited for it, because "don't want that wealth". Turned down the difficulty a bit and now enjoy that much more - it's still basically the same difficulty overall, but you don't have to throw stuff away all the time

What would you say is a good difficulty to not have to mid max your wealth on?
@r3dp93 жыл бұрын
The big things I learned: 1) Losing a caravan is still a win, since everything I put on caravans is a disposable liability anyways. 2) You can park a caravan ON TOP of your colony to prevent ambushes while still storing whatever you want. You'll still have to feed the caravan, but for certain types of colonies this is an incredibly valuable trick when transition from early to mid game. 3) Non Ancient Danger ruins, including buildable roads add to wealth, and should be deconstructed or destroyed. Non-buildable junk and non-buildable roads (asphalt, dirt, etc) has no wealth value. Everything else I already knew, but if I didn't watch this guide I wouldn't have found the invaluable nuggets of knowledge that slipped through the cracks. Thanks a bunch! A mod made by Owlchemist named "Scattered Flames" has an optional "Ignite" gizmo that can be enabled in its mod options. I don't know what exact series of Twitch raids led me to your content, but it's reignited my love for this game. I play on a custom mode where I still have to deal with environmental hazards like food and disease, but raids aren't as bad. It's always nice to see someone who plays on crazy hard difficulties who doesn't at all try to gatekeep or make people feel bad. I play a lot of RPGs on max (sometimes modded to be harder than the vanilla max) difficulty, but RimWorld's one that I'd rather chill out to, instead. I get to see the crazy stuff the game can throw at you on high difficulties by watching you play, which I appreciate. I've been binge-watching this series, and I just want to thank you for the thought and effort that clearly goes into these videos. I really appreciate how you are careful about focusing on what's important, concise explanations, presenting data without getting lost in it, pointing out further complications for those who want to go further down the rabbit hole later, and being very, very clear that these choices are just options. Part of Rimworld's fascination for me is how incredibly flexible it is.I don't want to be told there's a "best" way to do something, because that sells this game short. I want to be told, if you make this choice, here are some implications and possible results/consequences.I enjoy seeing a creator respect the game and its myriad creative players like you do. You also have good pacing, your graphics emphasize and clarify the information you're presenting, and you break the information into manageable, logical chunks, which helps when presenting options n a game this complex. Putting information together to be digestible and interesting like you do takes a lot of time behind the scenes, so I just wanted to say thank you for taking the time to do it. Also... looking at ocd stockpile of 6,300 rice... gave me some very useful information. XD One question I'm left with: when you're trying to avoid wealth inciting larger raids, what are some options for dealing with colonists' unhappiness with a lack of wealthy surroundings?

Thanks, I appreciate you watching (and the kind words)! As far as the last question, the main two things I do is use a barracks (they are extremely wealth and space efficient for the mood you can pump out of them. I remember a tactic people used in the early betas for wealth management, but I didn't see you cover it in this video and I'm wondering if anyone knows if it still works. You used to be able to half-construct buildings to "hide" the wealth of the building materials. So, it was common for min-maxers to build endgame spaceship parts and forbid them to never finish constructing them, because it could take all the Plasteel/Uranium/Gold/ect out of their wealth, and as long as you didn't construct it you could always just cancel the build for 100% of your materials back.

I have an obscene amount of time in Rimworld, but the way wealth works has always been the thing I hated the most. It basically means two things: 1. Technically there is no progression, playing "optimally" is basically living in the dirt and using traps. 2. It's anti fun. In most games if your smith creates a legendary sword, that would be exciting! In Rimworld you basically get it off your map ASAP.
@AdamVsEverything3 жыл бұрын
yeah, it is a bit silly. Luckily they added Wealth Independent Mode, though. Highly recommend trying it out if you have not.
@entelin3 жыл бұрын
@@AdamVsEverything I tried it, it's also kinda broken though. It just scales regardless of anything, but can also be reset by resettling. So that mode tends to be either impossible, or way too easy, depending on where you wind up in the curve. The way it should be done is also a cool extension to the gameplay the raid score should be based on an estimation of actual combat ability, but raids should be motivated by various reasons which can feed into the storytelling. For example you might get a message saying that the raiders demand some particular valuable item you have. The raiders may give you an option to just give them that item and they would leave. So then they would send one pawn into your base to get the item, and if he's successful they leave. You might get regular tribute demands, maybe at the start of the game you might get starving raiders who demand food, or any number of other reasons. But the point is it would give more meaning to the raids, and when someone invades someone else, they are going to bring what they think they need, not some overwhelming horde, or one guy with a club, something appropriate and scaled by difficulty. This way you can have fun amassing wealth and making your base pretty, which may to some degree increase the frequency of raids, but scales the raid according to what the raiders think they need.

Great Rimworld wealth guide! This helps a lot. I wish i would've learned about wealth and it's consequences when i first started playing. That would've made it a lot more fun (or a lot less frustrating) for me. Most games I'm trying to hoard resources so this was a big change. Thanks!
@AdamVsEverything3 жыл бұрын
Yeah, it is tough not to hoard things, for sure. It feels like a good thing to have years of food and tons of extra medicine ... but RimWorld punishes for that :P
@Rel_Ortal3 жыл бұрын
It's human nature to do so, honestly, and the game's other mechanics push you to hoard things (needing to prepare for winter, toxic fallouts and similar events, needing components to repair various things, etc). Considering there's already both a visible mechanic for punishing high wealth (in the expectations modifier) and that wealth being involved with raid scaling isn't stated anywhere outside that one custom difficulty setting, I've always felt that it's an odd mechanic to have in the game. To have it be a good idea to burn your own things to the ground or just dump money on the side of the road is just...so unintuitive.
@OhNoTheFace3 жыл бұрын
Although to be fair this is only super punishing on 500%. I have done the normal Losing is Fun without worrying too much and can normally keep up

Didnt know columns add so little to your wealth. Stange, since they need quit some resources. With when extreme wealth management is necessary, it could be viable to store your gold/silver/plasteel in columns. If youre okay with loosing 50% in the end that is. You could have used this in the Archeonexus run! Build like 200 Gold columns (Worth 20k wealth) and then deconstructed them in the end for 200.000k wealth! Would take for ever though.^^
@AdamVsEverything3 жыл бұрын
Yep! There's several things in here that would have helped with that. Another example is turning auto-repair off, punching a gold statues (or silver etc) to below 50% durability, and then minimizing it into item for. Then, once we have enough, just reinstall them all and repair them to hit 350k :P

One fun way to get rid of junk is to play on a swamp biome (if you hate yourself). Throwing stuff into pools of water or mud will be claimed by the swamp within a few days.

I recently started a Transhumanist, tree connection, human primacy, rancher colony. Between the huge amount of tamed animals, their products, me shoving my colonists full of bionics asap and building with more expensive materials from the start (as they didn't want to cut down trees without a huge mood debuff) I got raids (and worse, mech clusters) like I had never seen before. In the end I think I only survived because of some lucky anima tree psycaster levels, maybe helped by the combat animals and Gauranlen Dryads I got (but I'm unsure as to how much they are worth in terms of wealth, so maybe they added more raiders than they killed), they were especially deadly if I got unlucky with traders for a while. I simply had to come back to this video and check if there was anything I could do to limit their size, and it turns out: quite a bit. This video was very helpful thank you.

I strategy I've been using recently to manage wealth is to intentionally leave some items outside to deteriorate. For the most part, I'm talking about weapons, but more generally, any weapon that I don't plan to sell and that won't become less useful if damaged is fair game. You can configure a stockpile outside to only contain items with above 40% of their hitpoints and let lifters do the hauling.

Thanks! There's actually been a couple of RW changes since this video that I need to make a post about. Basically, unclaimed walls around the map no longer count for as much wealth until you claim them.

My basic strategy so far has been to just make stuff purely to trade for armor, weapons, and bionic. Art? Sell it. Jewelry? Sold. Capes? For customers only. Etc. Been doing a little chinchilla farming. Very effective. If I can't process the chinchillas they sell well on their own.

I get as much of any type of textile that I can get. Then, I make clothes. Then, I burn anything less than excellent. This way, I am always crafting/building to get my pawns levels higher. It also keeps wealth down and increases protection and speed/comfort/beauty.

This video explained a lot because I have colony with 11 ppl 9 of them are now half human due to to bionics and their market value during caravan screen setup is 22k, yet I was confused as to why my colony itself is worth 1mil because I had wood floor and barely impressive rooms but I didn't realized buildings like a shield generators turrets that can wipe 26 man raids by itself was contributions to wealth so in short, even attempting to survive or defend yourself can spike wealth, but you can keep growing as long your colony can defend itself. Another thing is to be ready to deal mainly with the environment changes rather than raids, it's one thing to recover from a raid but surviving a toxic fallout month or a global warming 2 year would mean having stock piles of food be necessary.

One thing I never know about is the appropriate time to invest into devil strand. It's right there at the beginning of the tech tree but I feel like it's more of a mid game item for me. A few times I've tried to rush it I got absolutely wrecked.
@AdamVsEverything3 жыл бұрын
Devilstrand is a super good defensive material, especially for the textile type level. It doesn't add any wealth while it is growing but does as soon as it is harvested (and then it increases further once made into clothing etc). I'd say planting some as soon as you can is fine, just make sure that if you accidentally overproduce you send someone out to trade off the excess (or donate it to make some friends) right away.
