Do you ever play Naked Brutality? A guide for starting on that mode could be fun. Better yet, Naked Brutality blind start. Just take whatever landing zone and colonist the randomizer gives you.

@@Zombull73 Most of my runs are naked brutality starts, or even 'tribal naked brutality' in which I start with 1 naked tribal research pawn instead of the normal NB research. Before Ideology I mostly did random 1 pawn, random seed, random map, go. :P You can find quite a few 'naked tribal brutality' runs on this channel. @@AdamVsEverything this is interesting. I schedule rec time after two hours of work, in sets of 3, followed by "any" time, after each; like in real world breaks after work sets of two hours each. Usually this allows some down time for hauling and cleaning. -but it all depends on priority lists. for e.g: SA; WWRA; WWRA; WWRA; WWA; SSSSSSS. This also allows for day naps, and frequent breaks for meal times. As pawns consider rec tim to also be sleep / cleaning. they're weird like that.

Just started using this schedule now for almost all my guys and wow what an improvement to their mood. In my opinion its better to center around this type of schedule because pawns just seem to be more functional this way. It sucks when productive gets ruined because of a mood breakdown or a breakdown just before a fight.

I really didn’t expect this video to provide much more then put sleep and Recreation together,, but it turned out to be one of the most useful videos I’ve watched.
@r3dp9
@r3dp9 2 жыл бұрын
@19:13 Adam didn't mention why he put recreation first for quick sleepers. I'm guessing it's because they have higher odds of finishing sleeping before the hours are up, (ie, sleep 4:30 or less instead of 5 hours flat), so putting recreation before guarantees that they always walk-recreate-sleep-walk instead of walk-sleep-walk-recreate-walk. Superb guide. Getting a ~+15 mood and bypassing ~-15 social mood penalties looks like a great choice in exchange for 20% productivity. Unless one is playing with time based wealth progression, bad events scale off wealth (primarily made from productivity) and are only unsurvivable when combined with mental breaks (due to low mood), so I can see why the biphasic approach is so powerful on the higher difficulties.
@AdamVsEverything
@AdamVsEverything 2 жыл бұрын
Yes, that is one of the reasons. Quick sleepers are kind of crazy. It's actually weird watching how well they do on an 'all anything' schedule, actually.
@PopeGoliath
@PopeGoliath 2 жыл бұрын
@@AdamVsEverything if you're worried about long jobs like hunting going all the way through the recreation time, putting it after sleep can work... And you can avoid that extra walk trip from someone waking up early by deliberately shorting their sleep schedule. If they have 3 hours set to sleep followed by 3-4 hours recreation, they'll sleep through whatever parts of that recreation they need to for rest, but then always begin recreating immediately without a wasted trip.
@Wise_That
@Wise_That 2 жыл бұрын
@@PopeGoliath Thank you, I feel like everyone else here is missing this. Sleep 2 hours, recreate 4 hours is SO much better than 2 rec 4 sleep, because a colonist will stop recreation to sleep, but won't stop sleeping to recreate. A pawn who has recently recreated and doesn't need the top-up (say, for example, they recently took drugs), will attempt to go back to work during a rec period, which is bad if sleep is next. So you should put rec last and make it longer. Meanwhile, if you put short-sleep, long rec, a colonist who is very tired can sleep in over their rec period without issue, as long as they wake up with enough time for 1 bar's worth, while a colonist who is well rested will only take the 2 hours scheduled and then do whatever rec they need, maybe only 1 bar's worth, and then go to work in one trip!

A tip that might help some folks. I put a forced meditation time before bed, and placed the assiged meditation spot at the foot of the colonist bed. This forces them to take a trip to their assigned bed before sleep, so they don't walk to recreation that is further away from their bed. This has worked out really well for me. Cheers!

Unfortunately, algorithms set higher preference on shorter form content, so often times creators will break each point in a video like this into its own video and stretch a topic like this out over a few of them. @@AdamVsEverything With the prison labor mod I find prisoners won't work if set to "anything", even once they're rested, fed, and full on recreation, so I have to use "work", but I might take some ideas from this to better set up prison scheduling to cut down on mental breaks, when prisoners go berserk it cuts into productivity because wardens have to go either down the berserk prisoner or wait for the other prisoners to do so, and then rescue everyone downed in the fights or risk them either bleeding out because no one will tend them if not in hospital beds or starving to death because no one will feed them if not in hospital beds. Then productivity is further cut down because both colonist doctors and prisoner doctors have to take time away from other tasks to go feed the incapacitated prisoners in hospital.

Great guide. One thing to emphasize is that because you can't work prioritize or order a drafted pawn to do recreation, it can make a lot of sense to just set a pawns schedule to always be recreation. Especially if they will be always be working in the base since the only cost is the travel time. This way pawns will always try to keep that bar filled and work when it is filled, where otherwise as a result of your manual orders they may miss their scheduled recreation leading to a mood collapse that you can't really fix without messing with the schedule anyway.... It can even help in cases where you are trying to get a lot of work done away from the base. Say you are trying to clean up some map constructions, or do a bunch of mining, deliver some food, put down a horseshoe, and zone restrict them to that area each day. It's easier to micro the zone restriction than it is to manually tell the pawn to work to mess with their schedule, etc.

What a great guide. Even I learned a few things I will adopt for my games. As somebody who plays very micro heavy and is focused on efficiency, I dont usually bother scheduling as it is not as efficient as I can be. To me I feel like why bother constantly tweaking to get a perfectly automated schedule when I am already micromanaging the shit out of my pawns. Your guide was so good that even I got some good tips for my playstyle.

Love the vid man. I've found that doing an hour of meditation and an hour of recreation when the colonists wake up and before they go to sleep works very good as well
@AdamVsEverything
@AdamVsEverything 2 жыл бұрын
The only thing to be extra careful of there is that meditation is a force wakeup. So sometimes your pawns may wake up before fully rested and then get exhausted faster the next day.

I'm consistently surprised by rimworlds depth. I think this is the second mechanic that I can see how I created my own very frustrating problems in the past (the first being allowed zones) I've been playing the game for over 400 hours and I still get to learn new things, and as a result improve at the game drastically. Thanks for making a good guide that opened this mechanic up for me.

Yeah, I started using biphasic what feels like ages ago now, and it's a game changer for dealing with raids. Didn't know about the mood fall maximum rate, so thanks for that. One thing I do in larger colonies is try to stagger work so that I can constantly man limited production stations. You can have just about constant utilization of 2 stations with 3 pawns on biphasic offset 4 hours in succession - which is occasionally useful for lower level cooks when you have a flood of visitors, or you need to prep for a caravan. Otherwise I might just offset cooks to wake up and work several hours early so that there's food ready when the rest of the colony starts waking up.

Yeah, staggering schedules is really great. I usually start doing that right around the time I get to advanced researching so that I don't have to make as many advanced research benches etc.

4:02 This is the hardest part of Rim World, being READY to fight. If the productivity is around 20% less then it is definitely worth for that reason alone, if not the cost of a mental breakdown for many hours.

Wow. I'm a rookie to the Rim. Only 399 hours. I thought I had to schedule work to avoid a colony full of slackers. Thank you for this valuable info. This was great info and as a big fan of naps in real life I will be adopting the biphasic schedule. Also makes me wonder if it is the ideal schedule in other similar games such as Oxygen Not Included. Thanks again!

These guides are very detailed and thorough. Great work!! I guess what I've been doing could be considered a hybrid. I have 1 block of work to force wake up (usually used up eating) followed by 3 blocks of rec (which they don't always need). Then its anything for a few blocks allowing desperate, off-track sleepers to catch up..Then another 2 block of forced work to push them back on track, a few blocks of anything, then a couple blocks of rec before bed. They only use it if between task but help rec starved pawns to catch up a bit and ensures others only need a small rec top-up next morning. There is some extra travel, but moods and sleep seem to realign after getting messed up by raids and/or hospital resting.

I think productivity is higher for the biphasic in the long term run, less breaks and higher mood will play out in your favor when conflicts are resolved faster, people heal faster, and your colonists aren't tied to events outside the storyteller. I wonder though if slightly staggering the schedules by an hour or so from colonist to colonist will have a higher benefit if everyone is always up and at em.
