I had my Savotta for several years, love it. The molle lets you customize any way you want.

I like the Savotta, I know it will last many, many years. Even though the Pathfinder is based on the Savotta, it looks more like a slick version of the Helikon-Tex Bergen pack. Thanks for sharing.-Scout

Love that you pay attention, and respond to your viewers questions and comments. Thanks for braving the elements and doing this thorough pack out comparison. Theory and practice are always a little different. I like this part 2 even more than your last comparison of these packs. Thanks for the great video.

Good review and continue in that direction... I've had many backpacks, but since I bought the Savotta it's my primary backpack... Pathfinder is an excellent backpack, it's beautiful and functional, but I have the feeling that the Savotta is better made and made to lasts 100 years... Pathfinder products are also good, although in principle there is little difference between the two products...

I have to say the savotta pack is much nicer quality. It's better looking and higher quality construction. I've bought a lot of Pathfinder products as well and the quality is decent but not special. The pack is average. And those zippers it uses even tho ykk r most likely entry level grade of ykk. The colors r not what I like but that's personal in appeal. I just think savotta is miles above. But awesome video. New subscriber here!

I have the Jaakari M, and I love it! I put on a Haley Strategic flatpack (only because HPG has been out of stock of their PALS Pocket for months). Excellent way to expand the bag and get some quick access items to the outside, but also, since it IS the Haley Flatpack, I have a small daypack for after I make camp. Yes, the side pockets are lacking, but they work fine for strapping a carbine, or an axe, or a shovel, or 2/3 legs of a tripod, etc. I have my water in a bladder for the most part, and keep my Grayl exactly like another commenter, hanging from the top side compression strap and retained by the bottom one. Expandable lid is great for either over stuffing, or throwing a bed roll under there. Bottom straps allow for carrying a bed roll or a lightweight tent. This pack is absolutely capable, with its expandability for pouches and such, to go 72 hours comfortably. If you’re going to be carrying 50 lbs or so, make sure to opt for the aluminum frame.

I went with the Highlander Forces 33L Rucksack ($75 shipped) because of the very things you mentioned , the price is $100 cheaper, has bigger zippered side pockets that fit a 40oz KKanteen and doesn't take up interior space and its available is more colors, its 1000D polyester which isn't giving much up in durability to nylon, the price is a lot more but the durability is minimal. it has more molle webbing for adding pouches than the Scout Pack, a bigger top hood compartment but no front pocket, the straps are very good and well padded, its a very comfortable pack, and has 4 molle webbing attachments on the bottom.

I bought the SRO utility Moller pouch to attach right above the built in pouch of the SRO pack. I think it will work great. Then I will have 2 good size pocket pouches on the outside of the pack.

Another great video Paul, I like your honesty with your comparison. And like I commented on your previous pack video, I prefer front loading packs for ease of getting gear out.

Hey Paul! I really liked this video. I got to see the Pathfinder Scout Pack first hand on a hike with a friend going through the Pathfinder instructor program and was so impressed that I bought it. I normally carry el cheapo Walmart/Amazon gear for day hikes but decided to take the plunge. It carries a lot of gear, wears well, and the side pockets can hold the larger water bottles. I carried a hatchet on my last outing and decided to carry it on my belt. I'm enjoying your content and look forward to seeing your next video. If you are looking for ideas and you like to do comparisons, you might consider comparing day hike/camping gear vs bushcraft gear. Someone carrying a full bushcraft load will have trouble keeping up with someone intent on putting in the miles & enjoying a meal while taking in the views but might be better set up to hang out for a bit longer. Just a thought.

I think the savotta is way to expensive and the path finder is nice and goes on sale often but I don’t know why there isn’t more molle. Nothing has replaced an Alice medium for me yet.

No big deal on the lack of molle on the front. I think dave was going for that. But the problem with the side pockets is they are still too small kinda of. The side pockets can hold the military Canteen but only if the bag is empty. Then load the bag after you load the side pockets. And the only other thing was the rain fly, most certainly not a big thing but it should have been reversible from orange to camo. And you can attach a bed roll to the bottom. The pack does come with straps for it. With my pack full, i tried shoving in my 24 oz Grayl on the side, but couldn't do it without empty the pack. But i just hung the Grayl on the one top side strap, and tighted it down with the bottom strap. Oh well good night.

Does the waist belt actually work well? That's my gripe with most bushcraft packs, poor weight distribution characteristics.

I can get both my E-tool and my tomahawk handle into one of those pockets, but I don't have a cover for my e-tool and my tomahawk handle doesn't have that flare a European style axe does. If you're carrying a Russian style shovel you may be better off with a saw instead, that's my thinking. That said it's a good review and I appreciate your comparison.

Yeah total copy the pathfinder should of had molle on the front to put what pouches you want, I think the one on front looks pathetic and to small also the colours are minging to be honest whoever designs a lot of pathfinder gear needs kick up the ass for instance the s/s bottlesets the metal is to thin gauge and the lids with the cutout for the hanger is shite they bend easy and let the steam out and the handles on both the mug and bush pot u can’t even get ya fingers through, I know they addressed that now but come on nothing is designed with common sense and they charge the earth for the name pathfinder and everything else they just copy and put their name on it , I just use the British army crusader metal mug and zebra billy cans bombproof started with them gone back to them👍
