If you wanted to give this a try, here's the link to the Lighting setup - adaptalux.com/product/iris-photography-lighting-pack/ As everyone is asking, the chin rest was from AliExpress, was very expensive and not great quality. We don't recommend getting the one we used for this demo.

hi ben, absolutely a great video, which brings this kind of macros to professional. just on my side a black box is missing, but this will be definitely created. thanks for this video
@Adaptalux Жыл бұрын
I think if you are just doing it casually, a black sheet would do too, or just be very diligent about other light sources in your room. A more permanent setup should have some kind of shroud though.

Hi Ben, great presentation and thank you! In regards to the reflection in the eyes, I wonder if you can change the angle of reflection by removing your lights from the top of the camera and position them independently from focus, then move the camera back to a point where the reflection of the light caused by the lights hitting the eyes is not longer hitting your lens, I realized though, that you might need a different lens, eventually if it can be worked then you will be able to take one shot removing all the extra work in Photoshop.
@Adaptalux Жыл бұрын
Yes, with a selection of lenses to experiment with, there might be a way to get the reflection into a more favourable spot. I've seen people try to get the reflection into the centre of the pupil but this is even more difficult as the light would need to be positioned between the lens and the eye. At least with my lenses and working distances, there's no way to position those reflections in a way that does not impact the Iris, the curvature of the eye really makes it hard to have any lighting that does not create a reflection in that centre area. I think this is the most practical way of doing it, even with the additional editing.

I think even knowing how it's done, it's not something everyone will be able or willing do. There is huge demand for this kind of photography at the moment so I think your business will do great even if it's not a secret any more!

@adaptalux Great video, love it! Any recomandation about the setting you used in your camera ? I am struggling with mime using Manuel mode: 1/126 f/11 and iso 100 to 200, images is too dark
@Adaptalux11 ай бұрын
Those are about the settings I used though every eye will be different and you will need a powerful light source. I'd up the ISO from there as you don't want to sacrifice depth of field or shutter speed.

I see you don’t recommend that chin rest what would you recommend instead? I’m in love with this tutorial I can’t stop watching it for more inspo. I’m very new to photography as a profession any tips on making it look less grainy I can’t seem to win so far. Also what i come here for which I think would be amazing is like an item inventory where you got it how much and if you think it’s worth it because I wouldn’t know where to start. Thank you! Your awesome!
@Adaptalux11 ай бұрын
A few people have had luck getting second hand ones from optometrists and looking locally. I'm afraid they are not too common though, hence the price of them! As for the grain, the lower the iso the better, and shoot in raw to use the new ai denoise tools in lightroom and photoshop.

Hi Ben. Thanks for the video. I'm also working with the Adaptalux system. I' d like to know what is the ISO setting you recommend for sharper images. Thanks.
@Adaptalux Жыл бұрын
ISO should always be as low as possible while allowing for your other settings. Most modern cameras can handle 2-3000 ISO without much grain these days but I would only do that if you really need the leeway in the shutter speed or aperture.

We didn't make it with any specific dimensions in mind, it was just a box we had around and it fit the headstand and camera inside, but was a little tight. I think it was roughly 50cm x 50cm

Hi both. The rail used here is from Neewer. A cheap option but I can't recommend it well, it's quite rickety and has a lot of extra movement in the parts that make both Iris photography and general macro much harder... I'll get a better one, one day!

Thanks, Ben...I guess we get what we pay for. I'm in the process completing my set-up and the macro rail is the last component. Your feedback is not only very timely but very much appreciated for the honesty.

You will need to do your research to find a ballance you're happy with. Better cameras and lenses will get better results with better sensitivity, resolution and features like image stabilisation. The camera and lens setup shown here is a good mid level solution.

@Adaptalux Жыл бұрын
The Iris isn't very deep so even a shallow depth of field should be ok if you can focus right. Ours were taken at f11 which gave enough depth, but you could always push the aperture more if you find it's not enough.
