If you want to know how to diagnose NOx sensors and AdBlue faults, this NOx sensor tool is a great way to get results. NOx Sensor Diagnostics can be quite a difficult task. In this video we look at the NOx sensor tool to check what the NOx ppm value is compared to known good live data. We check a vehicle with an SCR Catalyst Efficiency fault code in the AdBlue system, and use the XTruck Y006 NOx sensor tool to diagnose the problem.

Great little tool for verifiying NOX values👍 I work wirh OEM bosch software and there is a nox model shown in diagnostics, if either sensor deviates or drifts within a window then it will flag it, I normally just pull both NOX sensors and run them in fresh air, you can then see a drifted sensor and lob it it in the bin.

Ah nice, I’ve not seen that. I did a Diesel Train the Trainer course at Bosch in Germany some years back; they did t have that feature at the time. If you have 2 sensors installed, it should be pretty straightforward 🫣

Hi Darren I’m glad I just watched this video not because of it being about Nox sensors but I picked up the Xtool D7W scanner and you mentioned it being hard to plug in. I have come across the same issue on the scanner DLC CONNECTOR on both my vehicles. So needless to say I have not checked the scanner yet. I’m about ready to get a very big hammer which is an aircraft mechanics prized possession to plug it in. lol. 😡 I hope all is well it’s a little rough here for reasons you know. I'm confused, whilst your saying the original sensor (removed) was reading 50 ppm , the (new X-Tool) sensor fitted is reading 250 ppm and that makes the original faulty, so why does the X-Tool say the new sensor is damaged whilst reading 250 ppm ? Surely a better test would be to add a small spray of an ammonia substance to the intake and see if the sensors (both upstream & downstream) start reading higher numbers ?

The XTruck reads faulty because it’s meant to ‘test’ sensors in an engine off state. The live data in these don’t read engine off and when you take the load off the engine, they both drop to zero. In fact, sensor 2 was reading a little higher than zero. It wasn’t that sensor 1 wasn’t reading, it was just incorrect. The tool helps to confirm ‘actual’ NOx reading considering AdBlue injector is disconnected 👍

Hi do you find the chinese nox sensor in description reads accurately? Just curious because ive found a lot of these sensors don't really work.

@@royritchie4184 This one works fine. I just used one of the part numbers In the list of supported sensors on the tool. If you want, you could get an OEM sensor; but then you might as well buy a gas bench for that price 😅

Does anybody know if this device is indicating AdBlue level from OBD port for MB W205? I fixed all garbage NOx sensors but AdBlue level isn't indicated anyway

It’s deactivated. Due to cold on overrun. It’s the code for HEX ‘FFFF’ I think. This tool doesn’t show it but I imagine it should say ‘not ready’ or something like that 👍

I thought rule of thumb was that the downstream NOX sensor should be lower than the upstream NOX sensor as the cat should be cleaning up the emissions?

That’s right, should be 90% drop about. This car have funny readings on the road; sensor 2 shoots up under load and there are a number of things that can cause that. If you’re familiar with your live data, it would have been clear sensor 1 was faulty here. The tool helps confirm 👍

Purchased one of these to check Mercedes e class. Unit only reads 25 different sensors, not the one needed so waist if money? Before buying ask for confirmation it reads the ones you want ir fir or a waiste of money

I recommend you use it like I have; buy a sensor that works and treat it like a gas analyser to compare with live data 👍 even if it did connect to your sensor, there are certain faults it won’t detect

Nox sensor 1 closest to the engine should always read higher than the nox sensor 2 downstream of the engine as its further away and is after the scr convertor and adblue injection valve. If it doesnt then disconnnect adblue valve, carry out regen on vehicle to remove adblue still in system.and recheck with no adblue valve connected both sensors should read the same. Had them before when reading high when engine off thats a teletale sign its faulty

Cant find any info about updating and price on internet Would you know how much it costs to update a x431 after 2 years i live in uk ? Is the x431 totally useless like a brick if you dont update it after 2 years? Any info would be appreciated....lee.

@MechanicMindset mainly the reliability of the Nox sensors on the vehicle when dealing with efficency faults, how ever this can be mis leading. Bit like relying on a DPF pressure sensor live data with no manual check. But this tool will be a game changer for that. It will then just be a case of building your own known good database to ensure source nox is not to high before SCR has taken place.

I bought the xtruck Y006 and it does not read the Toyota Hino and American NOX sensors, they do not specify what types of sensors when selling, I think it is false advertising, good day...

@@thenouxsilva I think we mention the type of sensor to use, and that it doesn’t work on our car either. We use it as a gas analyser, not as its intended use. Alternative to a £3k gas analyser 👍

Hello big SECRET! The lambda sensor Boch was bought new in the store, before installing it on my car I sprayed silicone with moisture control on the connector, after that after a few days the lambda stopped working, there was no lambda activity, such an error code, I was desperate. I didn't sleep for several nights. Then I made a mini turning the disk with a milling cutter to a small slot 3 cm above the nozzle, I connected a multimeter to the ground and heated the sensor with a gas probe, the multimeter showed 0...800 mv when moving the gas flame, I was surprised! I put it on the car and checked it, following the schedule, everything worked. My conclusion is that the lambda can go through the wire connector to the comparison to the oxygen, but I blocked the comparison to the air access sensor with silicone spray, tell this to other mechanics, maybe someone needs this knowledge!

Ah yes, the sensor needs to breathe. Some make a comparison to atmosphere air 👍
