What has happened with the Mercedes A Class from last summer - I mean 2023 ? That had many fault codes and you wanted to diagnose it later cause I had seen it only once after that: in the bmw video. thanks

@@typxxilps eventually it was fixed but it turned out it had many issues and also had been involved in an accident and it was poorly repaired. We had to redo much of the repairs. Eventually it was fixed but with the background and history of the car we didn't feel comfortable selling it full price to one of our customers. So eventually we sold the car at an Auction for an Auction price.

Hi Dan. Can you recommend a de-crystalization fluid ? Or will it prevent crystalization too ? Is it worth it ? I just spent € 1,000 for a new addblue tank on my P2008 after being diagnosed low fluid pressure probably due crystalization inside the tank. Dealer says they are told not to fiddle with the components by Peugeot. The car was not driven (by wife..) for several months. Expensive lesson ! Great videos !Thanks.

I work at a Peugeot dealer as a Master Technician and have done 100's if not 1000's of fault findings of these Adblue systems throughout the years. The video is very very good and the DDTSB information you flashed up on screen is pretty much spot on with my thoughts, experiences and conclusions. Couple things I'd like to add / correct. Note - these are my own thoughts, theories and results from experimentation - I could be wrong - it's just what I have seen. Like Dan said - the 4 bar pressure reading doesn't mean anything, it just means there is no pressure in the system since there is never a point of operation where the pressure drops below 5 bar. The reason for this is not necessarily and only the pump having failed as many think. The P20E8 is in my opinion a badly worded fault code and should instead be worded as "P20E8 - Tank internal fault" because the control unit of the tank runs it's own internal check of all components before turning on and activating the system and if it finds anything out of the ordinary it will not energize the system and will flag P20E8 - Low pressure which as I said just isn't true and is badly worded - there is "low" pressure because the system isn't turning on - not because there actually is low pressure during operation. I've tested many many tanks after having replaced them to play around with them for fun and test each individual component, I personally have never had an internal component actually fail and not respond to voltage being applied - pumps, valves, sensors, temp sensors, heaters, level sensors and so on - for me they've always worked when tested individually. I've seen corroded circuit boards from the internal pipe connections leaking and filling up the cavity and eventually all the way up to the board and thus corroding it. Many times I feel there is something wrong with the circuit board or the logic of the circuit board and not actually with the physical components of the tanks themselves. I've sometimes tried to swap individual components like pumps etc from a known good working tank but it never solved anything. I've tried to flush the whole system with warm water and separately activating the pump and shutoff valve with a disconnected injector to flush everything through the whole system - for me personally this has not solved any cars - I might have been unlucky and only done the flush on circuit board damaged tanks though - who knows, maybe there are some cases where flushing would help because I've also many times had the theory that crystallization is at fault inside the tank - personally as I've said I've not been able to ever fix a tank by removing the crystallization through flushing. Next important thing that I maybe think Dan might have overlooked / forgot - If there is a P20E8 fault in the ECU for Adblue it will not even try to start the tank until the fault code is correctly reset and all activation / command functions will not work either - like activating the pump. To actually get the system online again and to make it try to run again or to get it to respond to commands you need to not only delete the fault code but also perform a "Re-initialization of the Adblue system" before it starts working again. Just deleting the fault code without doing the initialization procedure is not good enough and will not work if you want the system fully reset and able to respond to all your commands and activations - my theory is that perhaps Dan forgot the re-initialization procedure and only deleted the fault codes which is the reason the pump activation didn't work through the scan-tool with the old tank until the new tank with no faults inside and fully reset memory was plugged in after which it worked - perhaps Dan can confirm or deny this. Remember to perform a re-initialization / reset of the system before testing because just deleting the fault codes is not good enough. Overall this is an extremely extremely frustrating fault to have as a technician because whilst replacing the tank solves the issues 99/100 times I never actually know what's wrong inside the tank and have not been able to find out through countless experiments and dissections of old non-working tanks either. I think it's most often a circuit board issue and not a mechanical one inside the tank - of course that happens but I don't think it's very common and neither is crystallization damage. I know of companies who repair these tanks and I always wonder what the solution is, I'd love for someone else to chime in with their results and theories or solutions they've found to actually fixing a tank with another method that isn't just replacing it. I'm happy to answer and help with any questions, I have also commented under almost every single P20E8 video here on KZbin with more bits of information and my thoughts and findings - check them out if you want to learn more because I don't want to make this comment infinitely long - it's already bad enough ;)

The problem with these cars starts when the adBlue tank is not filled at the "right" time. The first warning probably comes from 3000 or 2500 km, and if you drive until it shows 2000 and below, you will probably end up with a bigger problem. Newer models from 2023 have this problem fixed. No warranty is offered, of course, although that could be exactly where the manufacturer should be sued and asked for a refund due to faulty design.

@@jyrgen3Warranty is offered and there even is extended warranty for specific Adblue issues. In some countries like my country of Sweden there is also a mandatory emissions component extended warranty of 5 years / 80000 km. Those few times the warranty isn't covering anything usually insurance will. Very few cases where the customer truly doesn't get help from anywhere and in those cases usually it's deleted.

People are comparing diesel engines with Adblue with petrol cars! Makes sense... I can come with a point, had PSA diesel and petrol models from 20 years ago without any of the problems we see here... If we start to compare what is not comparable to make a point we can come with models from the same brands from the past to say the same thing.

Running the filter backwards should have been something to test. However it's a bit annoying that a key item like a filter can't be replaced. One thing with AdBlue is that it will crystallize also if it's mixed with diesel, so be very careful to not get diesel into the AdBlue tank or AdBlue into the diesel tank. The reason for pumping back the AdBlue into the tank is to avoid frozen hoses in the winter.

Hi Dan. What a great video and I wish you had posted it a couple of months ago! Had the same problem with my C4 and couldn't reset it on the vehicle. Whilst trying to remove the tank, I managed to break off the nozzle so I had to buy a new one from Ebay. After fitting it still wouldn't work so I ended up having to take it to Citroen who reset it for €49. I will now be looking for some of that additive as well as trying to see if the pump etc are still servicable. May try to 3D print a new nozzle. When researching this fault I also found some articles on failure of the pressure sensor as being the root cause. One guy was able to make an in-line substitute and wire that back into the system from bits off Amazon.

In the USA we call it( DEF )diesel exhaust fluid, it the same thing. I use hot water to dissolve the dry crystal and when the SCR decomp is clogged with dry DEF crystal I soak it in water to soft it before cleaning it. So next time use warm water to flush the tank out first and if it works drains out the water and add the DEF fluid.

Yeah, I have diagnosed more of my fair share of these urea problems. In 90% of all cases, the reservoir has to be replaced or the injector leaks. A problem in the reservoir almost always means an expensive replacement part, which is ridiculously expensive! So when a friend of mine also got this problem on his own car, he was given the opportunity to visit a tuner who disabled the system and gave the engine more power for €500,- and I totally get why he had this done to his car! One spooky urea problem I diagnosed looked like it also was due to the reservoir, thech support then made some suggestions and I ended up replacing the vehicle wiring harness! Still no fix! I decided to be stubborn and took my oscilloscope and measured signals on all components. Long story short, there was a problem in the nox sensor after the urea cat and fap filter causing the CAN signal to drop. Replacing the sensor fixed the issue. I luckily don't work on these French cars anymore.

Not usually the pump in the tank that's failed, it's normally the pressure sensor itself but as mentioned you can not take the tank apart to replace it. This is insanely daft as the sensor is a very cheap component and doesn't warrant replacement of an entire tank! The solution is to bypass this sensor and fit a new one externally inline after the tank, this can then be wired into the loom and the system will work once again. It's actually a very cheap fix and worth a go anyway before just handing out a lot of cash for a new tank assembly which might well not be needed.
@MrEwaldchadauer
@MrEwaldchadauer 10 күн бұрын
Thanks for the tip. Is there a manual on how to install a sensor?
@Altair885
@Altair885 10 күн бұрын
@@MrEwaldchadauer Not aware of any instructions for doing this, but if you have a basic knowledge of how the adblue system works and of vehicle electrics it shouldn't be too hard to fix. Basically you need to find a pressure sensor that has the same range and resistance as the one in the tank. Next you have get hold of a pinout diagram of the plug on the tank so you work out the wiring for the pressure sensor circuit. Once you have these you can insert your new pressure sensor somewhere inline between the adblue tank and the injector, preferably close to the tank as possible. Then you have to disconnect the wiring to the original pressure sensor, and reconnect the wires to the new one. The principle is pretty simple, it's just a bit time consuming finding the correct part and technical info.

I recently replaced the fuel filter in a 9N Polo. Prior to this, I checked the fuel pressure. With the engine running, the pressure gauge needle is supposed to be stable. Not this one. That gauge needle was bouncing so fast, I couldn’t get an accurate measurement. Replaced the filter, and problem fixed. The car used to intermittently stall for no reason. For the viewers who are having stalling issues with their VW 9N polo cars, check the fuel pressure first. If that needle bounces at a rapid rate, change the filter. The reason is that the pressure regulator is built into the fuel filter in these cars.
