Love your videos, as an armchair mechanic. However, you keep saying “crank, no start”. Shouldn’t it be “no crank, no start”…? Had no idea modern cars have a P-brake “pawl” battery. Very interesting… Keep you videos coming, much appreciated! 🙏

I'm not familiar with this type of A class,but in 4 years a vital module to go bad 😔. No wonder the customer stated that out of the blue there was no crank. In some cars at that location it gets hot. So eather there was a bad manufacturing or bad design. Most times bad manufacturing will not be a reason to change the part number of the part. So bad design is my guess. Now to be fare, Mercedes could have decided to use this module in other new vehicles or they might have changed something for the newer facelifts. This could be a reason to redo the design of the module in order to work for all versions of cars. Or they messed up in the first place and do not accept the blame, to be fare .

Outstanding video! On the original module I would trace the red/pink wire from the connector to the IC that controls it. possibly a solid state relay or a mosfet. Next check datasheet, find input and probe the input with a scope. Pretty much the same fault finding technique but on a board level. For the cost of the replacement module it may not be worth it but it gives a closure and satisfies curiosity 😅

Hey mate, I just wanted to tell you that other car repair shops are being pissed with you right now. It's like that, because you actually have conscience. They dont want to help others like you do. I had a mercedes and sold it because i was tired of people not being able to fix those little issues on my car. I couldn't find a decent guy like you who could help me. Its really sad i did watch the audi e tron video with the automatic transmission problems from just a gasket and solenoid. Saying thank you for what you do simply isn't enough. I just wish that more people can be that way and help others. Its really sad, not because of the car sitting for one year, but because we as people are worse than animals, we are monsters who would go so low to screw one another over some pieces of paper called "money". Instead of that we can just help each other, like you are doing. God bless you for that man! Loving your videos and i'm also frustrated about my merc aswell, if i knew a guy like you i would pay double for the work! You deserve it, best wishes from Bulgaria 🙂

Dan, it wasn't the first time you where trying to solve a problem! Among a number of fault you started with picking out two of them. Then you worked "straight forward" as usual... I have also learned some small things... I'm not a mechanic nor a DiY, but I have an X3 30d 2011. Once wenn I started the engine it ran very roughly and stopped...Then I took the fault code reader. I don't remember how many fault codes there were, but one of them suggested open EGR-valve that means stuck open. I removed the plastic cover on the top of the valve, and could see that the valve didn't move! Then I pressed it down and lifted it up, or better rolled the mechanism back and forth. Then some grease on the valve shaft, and the engine fired up and ran as a new one. Then I was quite happy of my achievement! 😄 I was quite surprised of how badly the engine was running when the engine was cold and the EGR-valve open. In the reality(!) I googled for hours, and read about the actual fault code. But, Dan, at least I have learned something about how to look at the fault codes. Sometimes it's enough, sometimes not, but unfortunately not in the way people think. A sensor is not always faulty as you may interpret many of the fault codes. When will we see you work on the first Tesla? I look forward to that even though I don't have such a car. I think it's different, but not much more difficult, and maybe not even that, as Tesla has built in diagnostic system, which no other car has. But how efficient is it? Time will tell.

Great job, Dan! You were a bit lucky, from my point of view, as you only seem to have checked powers and grounds of N10 (Front SAM), but neither seem to have checked the CAN bus communication (upstream control side) nor software side and configuration (going into the module and checking DTCs, actuator control especially onto the affected relay, sensor values, software version, checksum, compatibility with other modules). Eventually, the module would have been fixable by by software/configuration, as you did not see any physical damage. Or it may have been some module, a random dude from another workshop put into the car, instead of the original one. Regarding the small battery: I would have tried recharging it with a proper battery charger suitable for lead-acid batteries of this small capacity. It has a capacity of 1.2 Ah, so charging for about 10h with a current of 120 mA should be ok.
@Diagnosedan
@Diagnosedan 10 ай бұрын
We are going to sell the car and i don't want to risk a comeback on a €30 battery. I suspect the old module has a damaged Mosfet. These modules are know for many issues ( not this particular fault) and the new partnumber should take care of alot of known issues that might occur in the future.
