That's idiotic. I love me some copics but why would anyone criticise people for their choice of tool? Drawing is one of those things where the tool makes up 1%, and the artists skill and experience 99% of the difference. I use copics that doesn't mean my drawings are automatically better. In fact they are terribly mediocre. Meanwhile I've seen people create photorealistic drawings with cheap colour pencils.

Man.. The markers NEEDING additional special paper to be ‘amazing’ is NOT a good thing, dunno why so many people acted like that. Even on their own special paper, the opposition performed better. And, as you said, the whooooole point of alcohol markers is blending, but blending Copics is what causes the colour separation!? They still produced dope art, but were they better? No. Lastly, are they worth their price point? Absolutely not. People really need to put petty brand loyalty aside, even with these results you’ve presented, people are still letting their bias overrule facts. 😅
@matthewhanson4406
@matthewhanson4406 3 жыл бұрын
Not attacking anyone's opinion I think it's great people have different preferred materials for their artwork but copics in the long run do become cheaper to the point of them being the same price maybe give or take a small amount of the cheaper brands... buying one refil (which is usually cheaper then the list price of one sketch marker) will refill your marker about 7 to 10 times, effectively meaning you get around 6-9 free markers, where as buying non refillable markers you pay full price everytime one gets used up. Copics are more out of pocket initially but get way cheaper after the initial purchase so you can't really put the price as a huge flaw when you actually end up saving money and putting so much less plastic in landfills, the ocean, ect..

@@fantisu I use Copics all the time and rarely have the problems demonstrated in the video. And if I do it is usually with specific colors and sometimes over blending, and even sometimes seasonally dependent because of changes in air humidity, pressure, and etc. But I also use extremely different papers than what are used in the videos relying mostly on Bristol and Mixed Media paper But to demonstrate just how much of a price gouge import tariffs are. Copic recently reformulated their ink and made their refill bottles half the size they were going from 25cc to 12cc, actually just less than half of it was. And in Japan the price did get cut in half, but in the US, the price change was less than 1 dollar, which means a vast majority of the cost you pay outside of Japan is in tariffs alone which is not something you can logically fault the company or the product itself for, considering the lack of significant price change on the ink refills within the country of manufacture but lack of price change outside of that country. Which yes, currently is a major blow against the price efficiency. I also imagine that the EU has higher restrictions on imported products and being alcohol markers can be classified as hazardous materials it could be more costly to import into the EU than into the US. and actually DickBlick, a US based company, can no longer ship Copics outside of the contiguous US, which I think before the ink reformulation they could ship to Alaska and Hawaii, not 100% certain because I live in Colorado, so I never really even needed to consider that being a problem for some locations. Also in the previous video I posted the Safety Data Sheets which was rather enlightening as well, I think the biggest difference I spotted is that Promarkers have glycerin and a number of other compounds that the Copics did not use, because the only safety data sheet I could find for Copic was before their reformulation. I also did a complete break down of cost efficiency for US specific customers, and it is more cost effective to own copics with refills, IF and only IF you live in the US. Being Promarker is made in the EU/Britain the cost of manufacture and acquisition is significantly lower, which makes it more cost efficient to use them in the EU. The other reason to use Copics with Refills (Or another brand that offers refills) is the lack of plastic waste which is a major problem in general these days, and marker casings cannot be recycled unless you plan to clean out all the material from inside them by cutting them in half. I do like the Promarkers are less prone to splotching or taking on that mottled look, and these videos do make me want to try them out to see if they do work any better or worse with how I use markers, but I know with Prismacolor markers, which also lack refills, I had issues with layering and streaking where multiple layers wouldn't blend out as smoothly as Copics did when I got a few to try. And I even plan to see if DickBlick's markers work well enough being that they have refills. Because my one complaint from Copic is they sometimes put too much dye into their darkest inks and it sometimes tends to precipitate out of solution and crystalize to the point it clogs markers and cannot be dissolved back into solution. Which as a chemistry nerd is very frustrating and denatured alcohol is very hard to work with.

I hate the bullet nib and the brush nib from the brushmarkers is way too soft. so I do prefer using the copics. The speckling, I've noticed is pretty common in a lot of alcohol marker brands with heavy layering, I think it's something to do with probably ratio between the alcohol and dye, but yeah, definitely something to note. A LOT of the prestige behind copic is just 'they were the first'/'brand recognition'. But they do have a HUGE collection and a lot of unique colors. And copic itself is actually a lot more reasonable than people think, a lot of the price point actually comes from importing fees, NOT just them being pompous turds. Which is why I don't pay more than 3 bucks a marker for them~! For refills, the best value I find in this is just that it's a lot better for the environment, I hate the idea and fact that most of what we work with as artists is unrecyclable hard plastics that end up in landfills (I am hording my disposables in hopes I can find a way). Copics are also supposed to never dry out (something in the barrel design) but can also be revived with their clear blender fluid if they do. Still, if that's a concern, spectrum noir is a much cheaper and pretty good refill alternative. Wonky color caps, but lovely to work with. But I'm not really surprised the Promarkers outperformed them. It feels like most people have blinders on to make them prefer the copics by default just because they were the more expensive marker and they don't want to feel like they were ripped off. And they are good, but they're not perfect or the best. I'm pretty curious about the original ShinHan Touch markers, and about Tombow's alcohol variety. I know Japan has another set I think called Neopiko that's also supposed to be good. Either way, there are loads of markers out there now, so I don't get why anyone would be shocked copic has legit competition.

As someone who knows very little about art or markers, I like the look of the pro markers quite a bit more since it has a nice sort of soft look to it, though this may be attributed entirely to your skill with using them

Pro and brush markers are so easy to use. They were the first markers I tried (a 12 set) and then used Amazon cheapest markers (20€ for 80 pieces) and they were no where near promarkers. They blend so well together work perfectly with pencils (I use polychromos) . I recommend getting the pack adc presented I bought the brush one and the skin tone pack 2 and I don't really lack colours. Finally, Adc thanks for your videos I learned so much from them and improved my art by a lot thanks to you. Keep it going ♥️

You’ve convinced me that pro markers are more worth it. But I do still think Copics are good marker just maybe not worth their price, Though in jazza’s video he did say that copics are his favorite so maybe they just need getting used to but I would probably go with the pro markers. 😁

People using Copic markers are just as cultish as Tesla and BMW owners/fanboys. You say something negative about their favorite thing, they have to attack you. It's ridiculous. Ignore the haters Anthony. You do a phenomenal job. You know what you are doing. The haters can make their own channel and do their art. For those of us that have been here since you were under 10k subscribers support you. Tell Svala to put out another video please.We miss seeing her.

I'm really really glad you're talking about the Copic markers in the manner in which you did. Being able to buy a comparable marker to them or better depending on style, usage, etc I think is a valid point of discussion, yes you can refill them but the price for a Copic is so vastly more expensive and I just don't see a benefit to justify that much more of a price tag for them. 10 bucks or more for a single marker is crazy! I really don't think they're worth that much more. I like them but I just love brush pens in general and I think it's good you addressed such issues with them.

@ADCArtAttack not to nitpick and I love both markers, but I have found when it comes to blending with copic, it is best to blend them on a 'palette' like Mylar paper or something nonabsorbent (I've even blended them directly with the marker tips themselves) by first setting down a bit of the darker color, then using the lighter color marker to "dip" into the darkers color on the mylar paper and then hit the page, for a much smoother blending effect, and while this may sound tedious, I have had much more pleasant results vs blending directly on the page. The same effect can come from, say, rubbing the brush tip of a light blue, onto the brush nib of a darker blue, and then laying the color down until the lighter color reveals itself, and while this tends to mean working in 'reverse' it does come with good results. Even if you don't make a video of it, I hightly recommend trying it out in your own time to see if this gives you more positive feelings for copic! That being said, I'm not a stan for copics only, I just use them more as I already own more than I should lmao

Cheap vs expensive is really arm and a leg vs do I really need these organs? Love this series though! Edit: I prefer the Pro Markers. They're just so smooth and you don't need special paper or extra. Copic from what I see just has way too many cons for their price. They don't seem beginner friendly at all... So $500 is way better than $5000

Hey, I absolutely love this page and helped to bring back my love of drawing. I'm considering getting some promarkers shortly , especially after one of your videos helped me choose Arteza Everblend to start with, which I've just done a few timelapses myself. In this I personally prefer the colours of the copic side but the promarkers do blend a lot better but potentially with a bigger marker set I guess the colour choices are pretty much endless. And layer separation is something I've noticed with my Arteza markers. Thanks again for another quality video!

Good work. Looks like she has 6 fingers :) Okay, most important answer, even a bit late, and i did not read the comments, so i guess it has been answered already, Lightpad: different light for different thickness of paper. For this 80g copic paper wich is already very transparent, you don't need the full light of the light pad. Your paper looks thicker thought. If you use a thicker paper like 300g or more watercolor paper it can be difficult to shine through that and a another paper. The paper with the drawing should have less grams. Wow, where do you live? Sketch Marker for 10-12 Dollars? Saw in another video you are in germany, maybe in this video times you are not, but a Copic Sketch should cost a bit over 6 Dollars/Euros. Same for the refills, they are 6,70 Euro. The refill is of course awesome. You can refill a Sketch marker 7 times. The old refills had even more. The Ciao is 9x refillable and the wide markers 5 times. The ink will not dry up, and doesn't mind falling over. That statement is just wrong. I have classic copics from over 20 years ago, that i obviously do not use so much, but they still work fine. Black is not the most common color in a Marker collection, at least not in mine, never bought another black marker for 20 years, i own 3 Copic blacks due to sets that i got. But i bought other copic black pens, the one brush pen for inking, and the multiliners the 0.25 - 07. Long time ago, still work fine. But i use others for that step of an illustration :) Since you don't ink your drawing with those markers, you can use other mediums, like real brushes and ink, winsor and newton have nice big bottle. But i guess that one is dying, the pigments there are superthick, just to have it waterproof i guess, white and black need to be shaken every now and then so it doesn't form a block of pigment in the bottle. Horrible. Sure, there are other refillable Markers, from what i saw, only copic has the whole color range as a refill, others do not. The good brands for Markers blend better from dark to light. Color seperation i have with the few pro brush markers i own as well, i think it is a paper thing, or the mixture of alcohol in the pen. That is is too agressive sometimes? Or the combination of the two... I agree, the pro markers did a good job for smooth coverage of the green of the sleeve and the goldenish over the chest. Now i would love to see a review of Markers on the really expensive paper from Arches, the pink one. (pink is only on the cover, the pages are white, there are pink and green blocks of paper) 🙂 There are a few who love it for markers, i personally would not use it, because it sucks them dry real fast... if you have a big purse go ahead... 😅

For me personally as an artist I like Copic because it has that gritty looks which allows me to make more realistic looking pieces when I want. Am I a professional artist? I don't have a popular KZbin channel or anything, I don't sell art, but I have been doing art for 30 years and I can say that I can do some pretty decent stuff with Copics. I would love to try those Winsor and Newton ones but they are still very expensive in Australia. Awesome video man, keep it up.

I have multibrands...and yes a full set of Copic...I use them all together. One brand may have the color I want over the other. All alcohol markers can work together which is the great thing. I found under harsh bright light you do see the separation with Copic more but it's indiscernible under normal lighting. Most people aren't going to be starting inches from an artwork they are standing back.

So glad I got the Ohuhu... I am just trying different coloring methods out, and I didn't want expensive markers I'd never use a lot of, glad I saved my money and chose Ohuhu, haha. If I were to really get into the coloring, perhaps I'd look into more expensive sets, but right now, I'm matching my set to my skill. I hope Martin is recovering from the flooding.
