Exactly. I saw a video made by a Lund racing guy that tested open vs close filter intakes with the hood open and closed. The open element intake lost power with the hood closed.

@@boostoshi they did in a controlled environment without any heatsoak. Try that same thing on a hot summer day sitting in the pits at a dragstrip and the gains will be much less.

Doing a dyno pull with the box open and hood up actually yields less air being pushed into the engine than if you were doing 100+mph on the road and having that air forced into the air box. Many people have done tests with this and shown that the only way to get similar airflow as to when you’re driving on the road going fast is by dyno-ing with the box open and hood up.

Actually not true. I have a 2021 gt500 - I’ve done multiple 60-130 pulls same day back to back remove the cover and putting it back one. (Also removing the rain guard the entire time). I consistently see 0.3+ faster times with it off.

No it will choke the engine with hot air, the more insolated the filter is the better...

I have a feeling this vid was a throw back at KenneBell doing a pull showing them changing to the KB big filter increase hp 50-60hp range filter only but I believe they left the lid off too.. but I trust anything this guy from VMP does! He is legit no doubt!!

If I was to remove the air-box lid and drive it on the streets can you hear more of the SC whine? Just picked one up and I was going to get a JLT intake strictly for the sound. Might not have to if this can solve what I want.

Downstream Temp differences? Of course no air flowing over the vehicle on the dyno your going to pick up. Any data logs of the runs to compare data available?

Biggest reason why I'm not into dyno numbers. The track showed there was nothing there. I picked up 40 hp with long tubes on the dyno with a GT but showed no gain at the track

This is stupid AF. Of course it's going to pick up power on a stationary dyno with the hood up and no lid. Let's see where the IAT'S are at the track and how much timing and power it pulls because its drawing in hot air.

The car doesn't run with the hood up. That is not a real world test. With the hood closed and no lid, it is no longer a CAI. I put a JLT on mine. Glad I did. My intake temperatures are within a degree of ambient. I'll bet that is not the case with just removing the lid
