I forgot to mention that Tim Wells aka "The Slock master" has just come out with a .625 specific Blowgun laser sight called the Red Eye Dead Eye. In my opinion it is worth the price considering what it costs to purchase a mount that will fit a Blowgun and the laser separately.

Thank you, friend. I have been shooting slingshots seriously for about 4 years. I have been shooting them on and off for a few decades. Great community of folks worldwide. However I just damaged my frame holding hand and can no longer manipulate/hold the frame except for wrist brace models. Which have features that make them less desirable. Blowguns are another low cost versatile option... shooting indoors or outdoor and quietly. Of course being a kid in the late 70's and 80's I have had a .40 cal 36" model laying around. I am aware of the heritage of the Iroquois and Cherokee Nations using blowguns. I am an Appalachian American and your freely shared and well preeented knowledge and experience has helped me greatly. Much appreciated. PS- slingshot tournaments are held at 10m (11 yards) with some shooting at 15m and 20m. We, too, hope to be an Olympic shooting sport someday.

Red dot sights are used with both eyes open. That's how pro shooters shoot with pistols. It's very easy to do
@theblowgunchannel3250 Жыл бұрын
Agreed; the point being made here is that one eye does need to be looking DIRECTLY through the red dot sight for it to work, and that's just not possible on a blowgun. Also note that a lot of red dot shooters actually are more comfortable and shoot better using only one eye.

Having cut a lot of plastic. I would add that the drill bits pictured work very well and are my personal choice. However, they MUST have the little cutting tips on the outside edge to work. I say this because many on paddle bits for sale do not have that little cutting tip, they will not work at all. Very good video.

I actually made a sight by bending a wire so it's off center and I use my left eye to see through it, sort of like an archery sight
@theblowgunchannel3250 Жыл бұрын
I have seen such sights pictured on the forums, often including a bead on the end of the wire or with two wires. There are some creative options out there. A caution with the wire sights is to not let them get bumped and out of alignment.

I actually ended up having a lot of trouble with the lasers and would not recommend them, but there are a ton of options out there. Just pay very close attention to the reviews as a lot of the cheaper ones have issues. The tactical green light was by Monstrum and they had several models that were much smaller than the others I found, which I felt would be best on a lightweight blowgun.
@Sickofitall-763 жыл бұрын
Thanks a lot for the reply! Really appreciate it! It was particularly the green light that captured my interest, as it’s nice and compact. I found a few options of laser dots that I’m going to give a try. I really liked your display of the mouse/rat at night and how it seemed unaffected by your setup. Looking forward to trying this myself! Thanks again!

Good to see another using stuffed animals as targets! The kids I teach increased their practice time dramatically when I hung a teddy bear in front of the backstop! That's with bow and arrow. I'm not comfortable letting kids not family use blow pipes even with my anti-inhale device installed.
@shermanhofacker44283 жыл бұрын
The greatest benefit of a sight on a blow pipe is in keeping the same orientation of the tube. Adding a bead to the tip is the simplest and most effective nearly free increase in accuracy.
@theblowgunchannel32503 жыл бұрын
Even before I started using a sight, I had a small sticker near my mouthpiece so that I always oriented my blowgun the same way. I'm sure that helped, but adding a sight still made a noticeable improvement for me. If the blowgun has a slight bend, I always orient it to bend up.
@shermanhofacker44283 жыл бұрын
@@theblowgunchannel3250 My testing shows little to no relevance between absolute straight and accuracy as long as the curve is oriented so that the tip is up!

The O.D. of my blowgun is 0.750". I would like an all-metal mount for my laser pointer. I don't want plastic anything. What mount would fit my needs? I like the card sight. I've never seen that before. Someone should turn that into a product.
@theblowgunchannel32503 жыл бұрын
I'm not aware of an all-metal mount for blowgun lasers that's as secure as the Venom Blowguns tactical rail. You might look at shotgun rail Picatinny mounts but the ones I've seen are too large and will need to be shimmed.

If you look at the first card sight shown, you’ll see that the hole is off center. That’s because I pull to one side when shooting. My four foot 50 caliber sights are tall but with my five foot 625 and stun darts at 20 yards I line up the bottom edge of a sight that hangs low on the barrel. How hard you shoot also affects the final shape of the sight.

@theblowgunchannel32503 жыл бұрын
Hello Aleonte, I empathize with your situation but be encouraged that there is a solution. The laser sight will work for a blowgun or any other weapon that you can mount a laser on. With such a setup, you will only need to adjust elevation depending on the distance. I sight my lasers in at 10 yards, and aim the laser dot slightly lower for closer targets.

The cold steel blowgun it's not the same as the cold steel 5ft blowgun ?
@theblowgunchannel3250 Жыл бұрын
The Cold Steel blowguns are all the same caliber at .625 (except for the .357 Magnum which is much smaller at .375 and no other darts work with it). However, they come in 4' standard or 4' Pro (thicker barrel), or 5' two-piece (including the 5' two-piece "Tim Wells Slock Master"). It gets a bit confusing as the Slock Master website no longer sells the "Tim Wells Slock Master," but does sell their own 5' two-piece "Slock Master Viper" .625 blowgun which is a bit different. Sadly, my personal favorite the Cold Steel 5' one-piece blowgun is no longer available.

what laser and green light did the one blowgun have on it??
@theblowgunchannel32503 жыл бұрын
The tactical flashlight was the smallest I could find, Monstrum brand. It's not very bright but at blowgun distances it does just fine. I can't recommend the laser I ended up with so suggest that you check reviews and pick your own. Make sure the laser itself has a Picatinny rail so you can piggyback the light on top of it unless you want to mount the flashlight separately.

Would love to try this type of hunting but it’s illegal in Canada… kind of confusing if you ask me… here’s what I found In Canada, the blowgun is classified as a prohibited weapon and is defined as any device that "being a tube or pipe designed for the purpose of shooting arrows or darts by the breath". Any imported blowgun must be deactivated by either drilling a hole or by blocking it. Tell me that isn’t confusing cause it’s ok to use a slingshot but not a blowgun…. Guess a persons breathe is a legal weapon … maybe I should use some mouthwash…fucked up or what
@theblowgunchannel3250 Жыл бұрын
Unfortunately you are correct about the illegality of blowguns in Canada. It is up to all shooters elsewhere to "Blow responsibly!" and not provide cause for more restrictions in the U.S., and remove any bad reputation of blowguns elsewhere so they can be made legal again.
