I'm probably missing something, but what's going to stop the inside nut from spinning once you loosen the bolt a little?
@sheldonmcclaflin8904 Жыл бұрын
Double wrench, a wrench on the larger outside bolt and a smaller wrench on the drain plug bolt. Hold the larger nut and turn the smaller drain plug bolt.

why did you put that drainplug up so high instead of the bottom like your oil drainplug is right next to it your trans oil will not all drain out better go get another one & start over.
@ChadWilliamsFixesAll6 жыл бұрын
I really like where I put it. The reason is, I have to jack one side of my car up, so all the fluid will be leaning towards where I put the plug. Almost all comes out. But, this pan will be coming off, I just bought an aluminum one with an integrated drain plug.

Probably lock tight or any glue would be good idea to add to counter nut threads, after this point, you can add one more if you need it.

I did this on a 2014 Silverado. No more getting splashed with a gallon of transmission fluid. I used RTV on the drain plug and let it cure overnight before putting everything back together.

Im about to do this on the 2015 Silverado that's what brought me to this video. I was wondering if I could do it without even taking the pan off to sort of drill a hole in the right place and then put a plug
@theirthereandtheyre29473 жыл бұрын
Absolutely have to remove your pan. Take extreme care in getting all the metal shavings cleaned out of the pan. Start with small diameter bits then use thicker ones. RTV has to cure for 24 hours.

I wonder if this could be used on a 9 in. Ford rear?
@sheldonmcclaflin8904 Жыл бұрын
I have put about 5 of them on my vehicle's rear diff covers. Makes draining the diff so nice.

can you add lock tight???

What's the part number and can I find this at O'Riley's

Why not put it on the bottom of the pan rather than the side ? there's alot of other stuff under there that is hanging a lot lower?
@KO-pk7df2 жыл бұрын
Maybe the clearance to the valve body or filter etc. It looks to me there was a big flat spot on the rear of his pan where GM used to put the factory drain.

Lazy car manufacturers Can't even put drain plug. Used to have drain plug In torque converter also What they can do very well is Make parts that fail exactly When they want them to

Why not just weld a nut on the inside, then bolt and washer on the outside?
@sheldonmcclaflin8904 Жыл бұрын
I did, I had both large bolts welded.

What I don’t understand is how would that nut not fall and get lost the second you remove the drain bolt to train the tranny?
@PoisonShot202 жыл бұрын
It's one bolt threaded inside of the main bolt. So you unscrew the plug, the plug is male. Got it? 2 pieces. Male and female. But with heat, it's possible that the female bolt could come loose. Using BJW, may be a must.
@selwyn132 жыл бұрын
@@PoisonShot20 Oh so its almost as if your screwing a bolt into a larger hollow bolt and nut. The piece that we initially install that would act as the female end, is that reverse thread (lefty tighty, Rightly loosey) direction?
@PoisonShot202 жыл бұрын
@@selwyn13Well, one thread being LH and the other RH does not help, it will work when you're removing the male plug to drain the pan. To screw it back in, you will unscrew the insert ( female ) Kind confusing, and hard for me to explain, English not being my native language. But I think you got the idea, I hope anyway!🙏 Solution is place a washer and locknut, inside plus BJW, or weld it.
