My 4runner has been lifted for 3 weeks and I’m already looking into heavier springs. It’s built into our DNA. I’ve done same with my mountain bike, my road bikes, all my guns. That feeling you get after an upgrade you do yourself. When outside looking at it and your wife is shaking her head. Man it’s addicting. Guys like us will never be satisfied. I wish the buy once cry once would work for me. I’d be a rich man. I really enjoy your channel. Take care.

A note to anyone installing an icon pack to a Tundra, main spring and overload are to stay in per instructions as of today. Jus received my pack and after watching many videos of ppl not following instructions I thought I'd drop this post.

Seems there is nothing wrong with the Add a Leaf unless you'll need more load capacity later. Glad Rob made the video because I thought it was to explain why you shouldn't install an Add a Leaf, which is what I'm planning to do here in a few days to my truck. But on my case, I just want to lift about 1.5" on the back just to have the truck leveled with the front (lifted about 2.5") just to make it look even and add just a little bit more load capacity(not much at all). Plus I wouldn't mind having to do something else later if I decide that I want to have the truck lifted even more since I love working on my own cars in my garage anyways. I can save hundreds of dollars doing my own work, and knowing that I didn't get scammed by a mechanic not doing their job right. Unless it is something inside the engine or transmission, I do all the work on my cars. on my leveling kit(just about 2.5") I saved $600 just by doing it on my own.

Hey Rob I have a softopper and sleeping platform in the back all together comes to 200lbs. On camping trips I may add another 60lbs-80lbs but I can disperse some of that in the cab. Is that enough payload to lead me to want a whole new leaf pack? I also have sliders and a roof rack idk if that matters for leaf packs conversation. Love the video!

Thanks for the video, great tips. I have '19 TRD OR 4x4, planning to get Bilstein 6112/5160 combo. Can you comment if this will make the truck look level? Or does it need AAL. Very new to truck mods and off-roading, at the most I plan to install a bed rack to carry a RTT for occasional camping trips, but I wanted the truck lifted for my occasional light to medium duty off-roading. Appreciate your reply. Thanks again!!!

You can level the front but when adding weight you're dropping the rear. Doesn't take much weight to lower the rear leafs. I mentioned what I learned about weight and AAL

I'm getting ready to do the Bilstein 6112/5160 lift also. I do want to keep the load leaf in there too. I saw another guy do that.. I think it will keep the truck at a better towing capacity if needed and get the true 2" instead of 1.5" lift in the rear. Did if ride really rough by leaving the load leaf in there?
@RobDaman
@RobDaman 3 жыл бұрын
Shouldn't effect ride unless there's a big load which the leafs will normally invert.

Great Job Brother. Nice to see you're finally catching up to me with the grey hair. LOLOLOLOL I don't feel so much like an old man now. Hey great points all, but what about flexing? What are the differences with each setup on that front? I'm all stock still on my Pro but scored a OEM leaf pack setup with an Icon AAL for free. I also have new coils for the front. I'm hoping this is all I need for a while. I'm already on skinny 33's and they are great off road so I don't need much lift. Just more strength for armor later on. Oh, I also have new Wheelers U bolt flip kit w/Superbumps. We were up in WVa last weekend on some medium trails. The Tacoma is amazing off road.

I am curious about ride quality after adding the 3 leaf. I just had suspension re done and truck rides extremely smooth, which I dont want to ruin. My truck has camper shell on bed but not carrying any pay load of any kind. Will the 3 leaf stiffen rear up?

Ive got a '23 TRD off road (Dbl cab, long bed) and my local 4x4 center is recommending a toytec 2.25 progressive AAL 3 pac with sumosprings for about $1300 installed. If I'm gonna be running a construction cap, my tools and towing a work trailer do you think I should just bite the bullet and do a full pack swap? Appreciate the input!

With that amount of static load plus adding extra load by towing a full leaf pack is a better investment..

I have a 2016 tacoma, got the ICON Stage 5 kit installed and now the ass end is high up and I look like a dumb ass gang banger, and yes the front end coil overs are "maxed out" within limits. Need to get the rear end "lowered" so my truck is "level" for lack of better terms. Kit came with a leaf spring kit for the rear that raised the rear end an additional 1.5 inches. Wish I had known this prior to install.

@RobDaman

it keeps from having too much negative bend of the leafs in case of too much load. depends on the manufacturer's directions to keep or remove. keeping it adds a slight amount of height.

I think they're good if your load varies but if you know your weight will be static, it's best to match it with the proper leaf set up.

I’m curious, I’m thinking about Add a Leaf to the rear of my 23 TRD Off Road 6’ bed only because I haul a lot of stuff in the bed of our truck for work around our property. I installed air shocks on my last truck but I got tired of adding air and reducing the air depending on what I was hauling

If your haul varies and you don't need the height...sumo springs may work better amzn.to/43U3f1o

@@RobDaman I’ve thought about the Sumo’s, but from what I’ve heard from a lot of 3rd generation Tacoma owners is that when they haul heavier stuff over a period of time, the rear leaf springs get fatigued and begin to sink down making the Tacoma look like it’s hauling stuff even when it’s empty
