Hi Denis, Our B4 Magic adapter was made expressly for the Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera's sensor. Due to its larger sensor size, we can't guarantee good results on the Blackmagic Cinema Camera.

The important thing that we were really looking for was optical correction of the 3CCD prism to CMOS error to eliminate the "bloom" that these lenses exhibit wide open, and correction of chromatic aberrations. Since you say the lens must be stopped down to f/5.6 to achieve decent image quality, can I infer that the 3CCD to CMOS optical errors and CA have not been corrected in these optics?

Right. There's really not a good way to create a one-size-fits all solution for CA. Different lenses have different problems. Don't forget that these types of lenses exhibited CA on their native cameras too. In my days of shooting with this combo, I would occasionally glimpse CA, but not in any way that represented a real problem in my projects. That said, we re investigating if there's something we can actually do to reduce CA for everyone.

We do make a B4 to E-mount adapter. Just know that it doesn't have a corrective optic in it so you won't be able to get full sensor coverage, which means you'll see the full image circle of the lens on your Sony camera and you'll have to do a 4x crop in post to remove the major vignette. It looks like a pretty nice kit. I currently shoot with a Canon J16ax8B4 lens and love it. Normally i have to use it with the doubler engaged. On your adaptor I noticed it looks like it has a lens in it. Does this allow the lens to be used without the doubler engaged or will it still need to be engaged? I am curious about it because with the doubler engaged you lose two stops of light. Will you be posting a video that shows specifics of the adaptor? One more thing, since the BMPCC uses a MFT lens mount system will this kit also work on my GH2 and provide full sensor coverage? Thanks again for the great products!

Hi Paul, The B4 Magic has built-in optics that allow you to mount 2/3" sensor B4 lenses on the Black Magic Pocket Cinema Camera without vignetting, so you don't have to use your doubler unless you want extra reach. This adapter is made expressly for the Black magic Pocket Cinema camera and we can't guarantee performance on any other camera platform. Nice products! I think the next Camera system to support must be the M43 with 2x crop. My question is does the adapter optics compensate for 3CCD design of B4 lenses? Some very expensive adapters can do that. Or is it only a Teleconverter to match the 2/3 image on the super16 sensor?

Hi there! Yes, you're right... the B4 magic lens Adapter is a teleconverter. The optics required to do what you say are tricky, and impossible to make happen at our goal price point. That said, I haven't had significant color fringing problems in my regular use. Remember that some of those lenses have inherent chromatic aberration, even when mounted on the original cameras they were designed for.

Hi guys great video My question and comment is this. You should take a look at the black magic studio cameras and see if the fotodiox b4 kit can be mounted. We have a tv studio that recently acquired ULTRA HD black magic studio cameras. We have been working with the Lumix powered zoom lenses until now but B4 lenses would be great to work with these cameras. This adapter has a built in optic that enlarges the image circle of a B4 lens to fit on a super 16 size sensor. With a non optical B4 adapter you have to use a B4 lens with a built in doubler and have the doubler engaged to get full image circle coverage on your sensor.

Hi bassboyinc, The two lenses we use here in the studio are the Fujinon A16x9BRM-28 and the Fujinon A17x7.8BDERM-M28. They both work pretty well. There's a huge gamut in terms of quality with these lenses, so if you're looking to buy a specific model I recommend reading up online to see what its quality is like. We want to be able to install a couple of BMD Studio Cameras in our church but without remote iris control to our video booth and with all the vignetting problems currently associated with B4 lenses it doesn't seem like a viable solution. Hi Nick, Currently this adapter is only for the Black Magic Pocket Cinema camera, but we are looking into supporting other cameras like the Black Magic Studio Camera in the future. The battery pack included with the PowerLynx kit will power anything that's powered on the lens, including electronic iris control, but it's not a remote and you still have to use the buttons on the lens. Fotodiox Inc Usually the powered iris is controlled through communication from the camera body through the lens mount. Is connectivity still present in the lens mount to pass that communication to the lens?

Scott Garcia Unfortunately no. The older lens an the newer BMPCC would be speaking different a different "language" anyway. Our kit just powers the lens to re-energize the zoom motor. Depending on the lens, our battery will power other features too, but unless you have a remote that interfaces directly tot he lens itself, it's not going to do you a great deal of good.

It was designed to work with the Blackmagic Pocket and it's Super 16 size sensor, so if you use it on a Blackmagic camera with a larger sensor, you may get some vignetting, which you can correct by either shooting in crop mode or engaging your B4 lens's doubler if it has one.

Thanks for this great product! I got depressed when I thought I would have to throw out all that great glass! Were looking into upgrading our 4 wall mounted cameras with the Micro Studio 4Ks and your B4 Magic adapter for our Fujinon A20x8.6BRM-SD. The connector is 12pin. Hi CITeS VIDEO, yes, our B4 Magic adapters should work well with those lenses. We can't tell you for sure if that switcher will give you zoom control--our 12 pin cables are for powering B4 zooms only, not giving you any remote control over them. Let me know if this answers your questions.

Hi Dwight, The battery that comes in our kit includes a case with a velcro strap that's fairly easy to attach to a rig. We'll often just attach it to the hand strap on the lens itself.

Hi guys! It was told in the video that I shouldn’t open up the apartare to more than 5.6, because of the sharpnes (if I remember correctly?). Is this only an issue with the fotodiox b4 adapter, or a general problem with B4 lenses? :)

The optic in our adapter introduces softness when the lens's aperture is opened up wider than f/5.6. It's because of the optic in the adapter, not B4 lenses, which can be fairly sharp even wide open.

I have a first generation Canon XL1 lens it's a Canon video zoom lens AF and M zoom lens with options for optical stabilization on /off also ND filter on / off. zoom range is 5.5-88mm 1.6-2.6 What would be the results if this adapter would mount to my GH4? I'm currently researching now and when I find an answer I'll definitely post a how to hack a canon xl1 xl2 zoom lens to MFT cameras. Please advise. Atlanta GA USA

That's a 1/3" B4 lens, so unfortunately it won't work on our B4 Magic adapter, which is made for 2/3" B4 lenses. Also, our B4 Magic adapter is designed for the super 16 size sensor in the original Blackmagic Pocket, so when you use it on the Pocket 4K, which has a larger Micro 4/3 size sensor, you'll get some pretty major vignetting unless you use the HD windowed mode.

if you're a filmmaker, you don't usually stop your lens at 1.2, 1.4, 1.8 or even 2.8 to shoot a scene because most of the time you would put lights on every scene. eg., kitchen scene, living room scene, backyard scene etc.

AdoboramaTV What? This adapter was meant to be used with ENG style lenses to hopefully take advantage of it's servo zoom to make documentary work easier. Stopping down to 5.6 limits the types of lighting conditions that you can shoot in. For narrative work, where I do light my scenes I usually stop down to 4.0, but I would be using cine primes for that kind of stuff not B4 lenses.
