Very good ideas. One thing that could be added is a 1/4-20 "coupler" cheap to buy at home depot and can be combined with 1/4-20 "threaded rod" and also look up "T-Nut" easy way to add female thread to wood and plastic (although the more metal the more weight) - loved your tip about the ac ground clamp and wood working clamps. Very enjoyable video format and easy watch - also thanks for not adding lots of ad-lib that so many vlogs tend to do - you kept things light and focused.

Another method I like to use, say in a soft material like plastic, is to drill a larger hole that a 3/8" (male) - 1/4" (female) adaptor can screw into, and epoxy it in. The metal adaptor is more durable than the plastic material you put it into.

Scott, congratulations on the sponsor... and a really good company at that! I use ¼-20 threaded inserts on any project that involves wood but they can also be epoxied into plastics for a permanent metalic thread. And, if anyone is moving outside the US make sure to bring ¼ and ⅜ inch taps with you (dies, too) because you can't find them outside the US.

Great ideas, every one of them. That is a great deal for Videoblocks and Audioblocks combined. I already have a subscription to Audioblocks and love it. I didn't realize Videoblocks had After Effects templates.

The metal pipe clamps are handy but if you have a larger diameter tube, like the fork tubes of my motorcycle, you'll realize some take a larger thread size. I realize this was not an issue because I discovered they make a thread insert to adapt two different thread sizes.

Thanks, have been looking for an easy way to kludge together some kit that could use a 1/4 inch hole.

You could attach an Arca Swiss-compatible clamp to the tripod. Then you can clamp a suitably-sized block or similar to the tripod.

Using a tap to create a thread can be a great idea in some situations. However in the video they taps are been used incorrectly. You are meant to turn the tap only a small amount, then reverse turn slightly, then repeat.

An optional treatment to the zinc grounding clamp is to grind or use a hole saw or a sanding drum to make the teeth smooth. I really liked the spring clamp option. 👍

WOW! Subscribed! So while you were at it, oh u encyclopedia in tah head (I know) - you probably should have mentioned the problem a lot of camcorder people discover with their 3/8" holes - what to do? And the very simple thread-only adapter that fixes this without trying to balance your expensive toy on top of a half-inch spigot.

You seem to be able to find a means to adapt things. I have a problem, the macro rail I bought arrived and is fine apart from the fact that there was no mounting hole on the back of the slider block so cannot mount on a tripod. This is not the rail I ordered but as returning would cost a lot, it would need either an arca swiss type of mount or manfrotto. Nowhere here where I could get anyone to drill and tap a tripod hole, it would need something that could fix to the bottom plate. It is Kiwifotos FC-1II rail, they will not admit wrong rail sent and keep saying it is FC-1 when it is cleaerly marked FC-1II. Hope you can help if your are still reading these comments.

HELP PLEASE.. I’m looking for a Industry Standard 1/4-20 screw thread (basic camera shoe mount) mounted at the top, or tip, of a monopole. While that monopole is attached to possibly a dual desk clamp. I have looked quite a bit and I cannot find a camera shoe mount that is attached at the end of a pole anywhere. The pole will stand vertically and at the top of the pole is a standard industry camera shoe mount to mount a 35 mm camera at the top of that pole. .

I would be cautious about using 3M tape for attaching a tripod mount to anything heavy. BTW this video includes a female tripod mount and a "male" tripod mount which isn't really a mount.

Hey Scott, my question is off subject but I can't seem to find what I'm looking for. I thought you might be able to help. I'm using a portable DVD player as a camera monitor. I know it works because I connected another camera and was successful at displaying a live camera view. After searching lots I haven't been able find a mini usb to 3.5 video jack to have only one cable, or even two at the most. The closest I can come to it is to use my existing 2.0 usb to mini usb from my Canon DSLR, 2.0 usb adapter to another cable that is a 2.0 usb to rca, then from rca to video jack. That would be three cables and one adapter. I could do this but I don't want to buy a third cable if it won't work well. Have any suggestions? Thanks.

Now where would I buy/find a female 1/4" mount...?
@ronyerke92505 жыл бұрын
Hardwares. Regular nuts, hex joiners for suspended conduit are longer, T-nuts are good to use in wood if you want to get really tight, the first clamp on thing he used is for grounding home electrical to water pipes or grounding rods and to ground both sides of water meters.

I'm a novice, but what is a tripod screw slot? Why is it on the bottom of a DSLR? As for mounting a camera to a tripod screw, you can use one of those selfie sticks and simply unscrew the clamp from the stick.
